Question: Any plans to collab/remix with Animal Collective again?

BDG: hey.... i hope we will collab with AC at some point again soon yeah! they are our family and some of our absolute favorite artists and individuals. we actually have some live recordings from the early 2000's of us playing some collaborative shows with Avey and Deakin as "Tab Tab Tooth" . we often talk about unearthing those and releasing them. maybe that will happen someday.

Animal Collective: That's not true. I've talked about it a lot in interviews and it definitely is a phenomenon that interests me, but I've never viewed myself as having it. I don't know where that rumor came from and is definitely a thing that gets spoken about out there.

That's literally the definition of synesthesia, mr tare! Well, let's not press the issue too much. It's clear he's hesitant to accept labels. And probably the last thing he wants is over-speculation about the minutiae of his body by strangers.

Yeah it sounds like it's come up a lot in interviews, maybe he just doesn't want to be shoehorned as the guy with the synesthesia, like that's his defining characteristic. Sounds like the inescapable "you have to do drugs to make weird music" label also has something to do with it

I think the other thing with synesthesia is like, if you describe it it sounds almost like hallucinating or something, but I think it can be much more subtle. It can be just feeling a strong association between sounds, colors, textures, moods etc. I think many musicians and artists experience that to one degree or another but don't call it synesthesia because it's not like you're literally *seeing* colors, ya know
