Not random at all. Echoing Pete's take that the energy in here is palpably negative and people would benefit from relaxing a bit. We're all waiting for the album, and it's not healthy or helpful to obsess. Explore a new avenue, physical or digital, and let's be grateful for such a consistent stream of substantial jams from the boys for us all to digest this side of COVID. We're not likely to see such perpetual output for a while.
Be patient.
Have fun.

That Novos Baianos slaps.
I meant it as a ribbing, and mostly directed at the wall-o-text complaining about this album cycle, plus others lamenting this and that.
Good music shares on that last page, no doubt.

Going back to the earlier discussion about promo: is it truly the case that there’s substantially less promotion this time around (compared to skiffs), or is that just our distorted superfan perspective? It’s true we haven’t had any music videos yet, but it’s not like AC is a music video type of band, either. So far we’ve had: Defeat release (a pre-album announcement drop for the type of freaks on the wavelength who want a 22-minute single), the IIN? postcard teasers, the soul capturer single drop/album announcement, and some enigmatic billboards. has there been anything else I’m missing?
we’ve still got a month to go so who knows what else will happen as the date comes closer, but i wonder if the strategy this time around might be to drop the album without a protracted single-heavy build-up, let it stand on its own, and accrue word-of-mouth attention instead.
out of curiosity I went back to look at some of the press for skiffs and I saw that all the skiffs interviews/features I could find had dropped on the same day as the album or soon after. I imagine the same will be the case for IIN — after all, there’s much more to talk about once the album is available.

Yeah this seems par for the course. Only weird part is a lack of music videos so far after two singles have dropped. But lots of interviews and press to come once the album is out.
It’s a bit of a tough album to market. It’s not really for those who loved them for MPP—it’s more of an appeal to those who loved them for stuff released over 15 years ago. I’m sure they’ll put out the word properly as time gets nearer.

we'll get the "Gem and I" single and maybe a video within a week (Next?) or two -- and then everyone will chill and be happy... by mid-september we'll see the flow of interviews too. it's soon you guys -- go enjoy other tunes, enjoy summer, and it'll be here in no time...as Pete says a watched pot never boils.
it's hard, but we've waited 5 years, a month is gonna be nothing in comparison!

I mean just looking at the streams between the two singles at the same points I have no clue what is substantially different either. These singles were put on indie playlists just like the TS ones and while there have been less interviews and no music videos, I guess it’s mostly just the song selection and no narrative of it as “the comeback record”. Just surprising to me haha.
I’ll give you the billboards, those were fun, but I can’t help feeling like this record is just being dropped to move on. I wonder if the band and label reached a deal to get it out asap lol
And if it helps I hiked all morning. I’ll chill out just enjoy chatting about it

I also hiked this morning. No interviews or music videos a month before their best album in 14 years drops? Everything's ruined. We must touch grass now and delete our profiles. It's all over. Goodbye

i feel like at least a small part of why (for me) hype is coming up short is because of reset, which is like a very good problem to have, but i feel like pete and panda have been absolutely blitzing social media posting clips, doing interviews, etc whereas the rest of animal collective has been pretty quiet about IIN. I know there was lots of posting when defeat and soul cap dropped, but nothing as substantive (and i hate this conspiracy theory but panda's been
real quiet about IIN.
idk this is old, old material for them, they gotta be feeling weird about the rollout, i'm sure they'll be happy to have it out and then, maybe, be able to just move on?

Strangest thing about big music releases for me these days is that nothing really freebirds. Is it because all pre-release materials come via an encoded stream rather than physical copy? Either way, fuck Web Sheriff!

Well, so... that's probably
exactly why there's be like no press for IIN, right? It was probably an agreement they had with Domino if they were gonna do these releases so close... that they were gonna give Reset in Dub a few weeks to breathe and really get the spot light but like. This Tuesday or next when Gem or whatever drops, they'll probably shift over to more a promo cycle for IIN I assume.

At this point, the "this week" speculation is just based on the average span between Domino singles, right? One month-ish? Assuming we are "only" getting three pre-release singles, though, I'm gonna guess that we have a couple more weeks to wait. It would seem weird to me if they released the last single a full month before the album drop. Two weeks seems more likely to me. Total speculation though.

fwiw, Time Skiffs technically had 4 prerelease singles. So I could see Gem dropping this week and then one more coming a few days before release day or something. Though at this point I think I would prefer if Gem is the only other single, even if it means waiting longer to hear it..

ya I had been getting the feeling that if they are going to drop another single it would be in the first week of September too. Now that we are just about a month away from the release, we should definitely start getting some more promo. I really want a huge hype to fire up for this LP bc the songs on this one are some of the best of the Era!
I was listening to Time Skifffs today with the addition of Defat n Soul Cap. and damn it's going to be so sweet mixing in the rest of the songs with TS. This Era is truly one of favorites. From PB drumming style on it to Deals synth playing and Aveys bass playing along with Geos Hurdy Gurdy has made me absolutely fall so deeply in love with these songs. Even despite the 5 year stretch its taken, it feels all worth it now that we are getting the final piece of it. The art work, the live performances, fuck I can't say enough about it!
Couple of the low key songs I'm so super hyped for is Broke Zodiac & Stride Rite! especially Steide Rite. I think that may be Deaks best written song thus far! Of course, his ablu mdebut song Wide eyed is still so lyrically beautiful and perfect but this one is so emotionally gorgeous, I cannot wait to hear the final cut next month!
Let the count down begin already!! Meanwhile, we get some new Avey solo songs that I'm praying one fo you amazing fans will get a great recording of!
God do I love when it's an AC season! Fingers crossed they drop a tour on the day the Ablum releases
One last thing.. I don't think I've ever got the chance to let you know how grateful I am of all you ODDsacs! From the info to the recordings to the amazing mind thinking opinions or thoughts, I'm so honored to be apart of the Collectedanimals. Thank you y'all, you guys are the best!

GOAT post.
Feeling the love!
Skiffs era has felt so good. It's felt like home. Like I have just settled into these songs and they've become a part of me. The idea of having pristine studio versions is just filling me with joy. I'm excited for every single part of it. Even the track I was least psyched on (Soul Cap) has turned out great and I've grown to love it. The rest is just going to turn me into a puddle.
They are the greatest band to be a fan of.
And this place is one of the warmest, most thoughtful and engaging places I have ever found to talk about music. Almost always good vibes. The people here go deep and have all kinds of insightful and fascinating things to say. It's a great place to be.
Tbh the only thing I wish is that it was more active. Especially atm when I am in full obsessive anticipation mode!

had a thought today, and I don’t know how these things work so could be way off on this. but maybe lack of promo is bc they cut a deal with domino that they would be able to do that europe tour but they had cut costs somewhere else and that happened to be on the pre-release promo of this record

ya generally the record company has no part of the tour. that's usually where the artist makes the bulk of their money away from the record label.
I think Domino is just a bunch of cheap asses or AC chooses not to be so heavy in the game of advertising. They know they have their loyalist and they are cool with that level of success.

they also were on tour most of 2022, PB n Avey both released solo records n tours this year.. so maybe it's just as simple as they hadn't find the time to make any music videos? and or they are already on to the next batch of songs to show off on the next tour? as I've stated before, I cannot see them.doing another full blown tour of these songs again.

I kind of can't see them playing these songs again for years. Might be a shame for anyone who doesn't follow them outside of the album releases but really, the prospect of playing Defeat every night on tour to promote this album? It sounds like they've given this batch of songs as much reverence as possible in the studio as a parting gift but they must be ready to leave this era far behind.

I've also noticed a bit of a pattern emerging (since 2016) where they tend not to play anything off the album before on the following tour. More likely to reimagine older songs, not the ones they've just played to death in the years before.
During all the Skiffs era shows there were no (or virtually no) PW songs played as far as I'm aware.
During the PW era shows: virtually no CHz songs played either.

There will def be a single drop soon, another right before the album, and another a couple weeks after it releases. That's just how the game is played these days
And yeah there's no way they're touching these songs again for a while. Setup will prob be totally different next time around too. Kinda crazy I was supposed to see them three times in two months last year and then that just never happened and now I'll likely never see some of these songs live hehe

Yea i'm sure the last thing they want to do for awhile is play any of those songs. The fact that this era has been so long makes me wonder; considering how prolific this band has always been; how much if any future-ac material has been written already.

yeah did some more research and it’s not the norm to have record labels have their hands in touring, unless they give the artist a slice of cash to tour in hopes it pushes record sales or they have one of these 360 deals.
If they did do europe, I wouldn’t expect these songs. rather something else, something new… 8)
