I’m almost the total opposite of this!

Going to resist listening to this… whatever it is. Have gone the last week and a bit without listening to SC or Defeat but man it’s hard. Feel like a person with a substance abuse issue. Every day is hard but every day is an achievement worth celebrating

I could not do this haha. I just gave Defeat another listen coming back from work, what a monument. Given, I basically didn't care about this batch of songs until defeat came out, so I do understand that anyone here basically knows this songs back and forth and may appreciate getting a fresher first listen

After 15 years of AC fandom, I've finally figured out the right balance of singles listening. Gotta get that first listen to the single out of the way as soon as it comes out, the hype is too real, but then put it on the shelf and only listen when the craving is too deep.

3 listens to Defeat, and 2 listens to Soul Capturer for me so far. If and when Gem and I drops, I will absolutely listen to it right away, but hoping to once again hold off on subsequent listens to go into the album as fresh as possible otherwise.

Boots...is another story. Really played the boots to death, but that's always felt like a very different beast, and I have no qualms with endless boots listens... doesn't seem to affect the quality or quantity of my album listens at all.

Boots are a tough one. Sometimes I do push it too far. Usually though, the studio versions still feel so fresh and full of new details that it doesn’t have a big impact on album listens for me either.

I've always seen the blue ones as having this Spirit-like quality connecting them with these gleaming high-pitched synths, the orange ones as being grittier, and Genie's being really intensely green but varying in brightness for whatever reason (maybe because it reminds me of Stereolab?)

Also, I'm glad this trend has continued! I find it very interesting to see everyone's interpretations. And even when its not what I see I can usually understand where people are coming from. I'd be curious to see everyone's Centipede Hz colours, but I don't wanna bog this thread down with non IIN stuff. I just know for myself, CHz has the most distinct colours of any AC album.

i know absolutely ZERO about quiltmaking, i just bought it to have and also because i am going to work on animating the cover.

anyway, to do this, i've been scanning the quilt's front and back patterns, and i just wanted to offer the scans i've made of it to y'all, i've found that the back pattern works nice as a phone lock screen background haha
in addition i took two photos of as much of each pattern as i could fit in frame so you can see how the full pattern melds together.

Wow, so much pink and purple. I guess I'm kinda that way with MPP. Every song sounds greenish or... dare I say... Bluish. With a bit of purple aswell. Maybe influenced by the cover. But I think it's more like the cover just fits the vibe of the music so well. The songs would sound that way regardless of the cover.

as much as i love to wallow in my diehard-fan impatience, you have to admit that a year and a half between studio albums is a completely reasonable — quick, even! — turnaround. it’s basically the fastest they could put out IIN without it seeming like a direct sequel to time skiffs.

we all love to hate on domino, but now that the guessing game is over with and we finally have a release date, i think it’s a sound decision on their part. it’s an autumnal album and a fall 2022 release (assuming it was even ready to go then) would have been too soon. these songs deserve some breathing room in the release schedule so they can stand on their own

Idk man, putting this out fall 2022 and just straight up calling it Time Skiffs 2 would have cemented them at the top of a lot of year end lists just for the audacity.

this take is so lame. hating on the band for putting out their "best album in a long time" for it not being out soon enough? have you forgotten there was a global pandemic in those 5 years? even in spite of that these past few years have been the most prolific with both AC and side projects since their early days and we've been spoiled with goods even without this album. also waiting a month and a few weeks from announcement to release date is actually kinda short for Domino's schedule

a new album is not a homework assignment, there's no due date and it's not owed to anyone

there were a handful of times that band members gave hopeful release estimates in interviews and they were all wayyyyy sooner than freaking september of 2023. i think they very much wanted to get these recordings out as soon as they could, and instead they ended up with a nearly 2 year wait between recording and release.

anyway, i imagine non-heads will be more or less the same amount of lukewarm pleasant-surprise-type hype that they were for time skiffs. the novelty of uncontroversially solid late-career AC will have worn off a good deal, but i do anticipate a "this one is clearly better than the last" narrative to balance that out a bit
