The songs on FBK are all just so magical. Graze and I Think I Can are some of AC's finest and most riveting compositions in my opinion.

it would have been though, and they really don't like making "leftover" albums (I think People was closest to that where they got some tracks together so they'd have something new to sell at the Australian shows in 2006) so I guess they did their best to make FBK into something cohesive.
I'd say it's more of a leftover album than Prospect Hummer though, which they re-recorded everything for.

But some of the songs are leftovers. Graze and On A Highway were leftovers from the 2007 era that didn't make it onto MPP. What Would I Want? Sky and I Think I Can were songs that were in an early stage but weren't finished by the time they were in the studio recording MPP and Bleed was written on the road during the 2009 tour(s).

yeah Bleed was basically the only really "new" song on it

What Would I Want Sky was written for their 09 shows. Pretty 'new'. How do we have any idea when they started working on I Think I Can?

No no noooo
Interviews: Avey said that Sky was written, or at least had some foundation, before MPP but they didn't really do much with it when they went to record the album so they fleshed it out for the next tour. Same with Noah and I Think I Can.

Yes. Miami 2008!
edit: Ah hah! Here you go. From the first time we heard about what was on Fall Be Kind from Pitchfork and collectively lost our shit when we realized that On A Highway was still alive and that the mysterious Guys Eyes drum jam panda was doing lately was actually I Think I Can http://pitchfork.com/news/36753-animal- ... ur-hiatus/

Some of them. The first song is called "Graze", and it's one we've been playing live since we started playing the Merriweather stuff. It was in our original 2007 set of those songs. We definitely started recording it then. The last song on the EP is called "I Think I Can". They're just two songs that we wanted to take a little more time on. We usually have two passes on the songs when we're recording them. We'll go into a studio and record everything that we do live, basically, and do rough mixes. And then there's ideas that we take into the studio that we know we're going to do with the songs, and we're writing stuff as we go along. So we go back after we lay down the initial tracks for every song, which was 14 songs when we recorded Merriweather. We went back and decided what songs to work on right off the bat, and those two-- "I Think I Can" and "Graze-- we knew they wouldn't really fit on Merriweather, so we thought we'd put them aside until later.
The second song on the EP is called "What Would I Want? Sky", which is the one with the Grateful Dead sample that people have been talking about a little bit. I went there with the blueprint of the song, but we never really played it together. We didn't even really get to that one. We didn't talk about it, but we figured we'd come back to it. And then we started playing that song live this year. We jammed in Lisbon for our first tour this year and worked it out. We decided we would record it for the EP.
The third song is called "Bleed", and that's another one we've been playing this year that just came together really fast. I thought it would be cool to do something a little bit more droney for our tour to throw in our live set. We ended up just being pretty psyched on it. It's pretty simple, a kind of repetitive song. So we recorded that one.
The fourth song is called "On a Highway", and it's from the Merriweather era, too. We've done it on a BBC session. We started recording it during Merriweather, but it was the most like, "Whoa, this is definitely not going to fit on the record." It's got different vibes altogether. We changed it a little. We went into the studio in Brooklyn, a studio called Mission. Ben Allen, the guy we've been working with on Merriweather and these songs, has been working there a lot, and he's pretty familiar with it. It's got a really great live room, so there's a lot of that on the new stuff we've recorded. The drums sound really roomy and sweet.

i have that bootleg but im pretty sure its not official
American record shops gave out a download for the "Live in LA" Bearhug and Brothersport so it isn't surprising that Japan got a live recording too. Plus they always get awesome stuff over there (live Young Prayer)

Bros is just the greatest studying song ever, especially for the repetitive guitar sample part. I generally stray away from studying to AC though, doesn't seem to work well at all save for a few drawn out, mellow tracks.

thanks hellomark! there was actually a link to that in the sidebar... and i put it on right after!
was truly an amazing listening experience. i actually came back to post this version of LHTD:
(@ 32:00) also it's the only time i can remember hearing panda joke around on stage
such a fantastic performance and also the recording is really nice. the stereo image is very sweet on headphones -great panoramic separation between panda and avey's vox.

so, as far as live goes i am a total novice. ofcourse i listened to some boots pre mpp and chz (got into the band in 2008) but i have no idea which boots are considered the best etc.
so, im planning on listening to stuff today, so if anyone could point me out to the best stuff it would be much appreciated.
emphasis should be put on quality, definitely not interested in bad recordings, so yeah...if you would be so kind to point me out to your favorite recordings.
my favorite thing from what i have listened is some amazing version of "leaf house" found on youtube. interested in any era, the only thing important is quality. so yeah, much appreciated.

Not to sound like a broken record, but this conversation can be found in Live Discussion in the All Known Live Recordings thread. The discussions in that forum are geared towards AC in a live setting and when bootlegs are available, their quality is discussed, often in relation to other recordings. You'll find a lot more in that forum than you will here, and it'll help keep things tidy in AC Discussion.

pretty sure it's WWIW?S, but it does sound like a new jam doesn't it?
oh man, is there any kind of info on when AC will debut new jams live anyway?

No there is not. As far as I'm aware they haven't written anything new yet and I think we won't hear anything about actually playing new songs live until that happens.
I suppose they did gradually introduce new songs in the post-Feels era but that was the only time, I think.
I'm expecting information on Avey's and Deakin's and Panda's new albums before we hear anything about new AC material.
I haven't missed any new Avey/Deakin/Panda info, have I? The only threads I check up here now are this one and the pictures one.
Nope
Hoping for a single or album announcement from at least one of them by the end of the year.
2013 is on track for being the only year in AC history where no studio material (solo or full band) has been released.

That was probably his announcement right there. I mean, it's not like we're gonna see Avey and Angel on TMZ or Access Hollywood or something like that. Though that would be cool.
And google that shiz geraldine. There's one bound to pop up.

um no? why would it be cool for TMZ to start following what any of the members of AC do in their private life? I wouldn't wish celebrity status on anyone.
