anybody got a rip of the openers? all 3 of them played really great and i'd love to hear them again.

and Avey reenacting the vocal samples was hilarious.

i was up front at the show. it was amazing. the crowd singing along to every word. dave opening up the set grinning "sunnggg tongs :)" every word of Who Could Win a Rabbit. COVERED IN FROGS. Visiting Friends was truly holy. dude crowdsurfing during We Tigers. Prospect Hummer. very grateful i was there. i have a recording of the whole show from my zoom recorder i was holding the whole time, looks like lots of people recorded the show there or the stream but i'll get mine up tomorrow. probably mostly crowd singing. but everyone was in tune. a beautiful, beautiful set. glad i was there.

Topaz is up on the Pitchfork YouTube channel. I really hope they put up the rest too. Moses Sumney and animal collective are neck and neck for best performance of the night. Sung Tongs probably wins out due to the sheer importance of the album to me.

Holy shit. I have a couple coveted vids of the OG sung tongs era that floated around on this forum back in the old times. They are so weird! In some beautiful way. The lack of inhibitions. A bit tamer here but still wow, powerful stuff. Thanks for uploading the stream, sad I couldn't be there. Missed it twice now years apart!

It's hard to put into words how much this affected me. I first listened to animal collective through Sung Tongs in like 2006. It really opened me up to a lot of stuff, because it was in a lot of ways inscrutable to my ears at the time, but something really hit a nerve to the point that I kept coming back. It's always been my favorite album of theirs since. To see them play it all these years later, as I'm about to turn thirty, having been through all the experiences I've been through, and after a couple of rough/transformative years both personally and in terms of society at large is a trip. This performance happening at this particular time in my life really really underscored what the album was about in a way that hadn't truly occurred to me before. It's weird how it goes sometimes, it happened at just the right crossroads.

ha yeah, it was a 2008 p4k interview - Geo bluntly said "No" mostly because most of the recordings/samples/equipment were either lost, broken, or stolen, and that if they ever did it, they would rearrange the songs, and that that approach isn't really the point of this kind of show. But as antithetical as this kind of thing might seem to the ethos of the AC, I think it makes complete sense: the AC is always trying new things, things they've never done. releasing PW the day they debuted the songs live is another recent example. at this point in their career, a set like this made total sense, and the crowd loved it, and seems like most fans that watched or listened to the show online loved it too.

I agree, it makes total sense. Another example is Avey's use of an iPad onstage for the Eucalyptus tour.. i vaguely remember an old interview where he mentioned something about not wanting computers on stage. There's a general understanding that ideas and values change and they embrace that. It really is the way to be.

+1

On the drive home from the airport yesterday I listened to Sung Tongs, then when I got home I watched the rip of the video stream, and now I'm listening to the audio rip at work. So happy to be able to relive it

Avey referenced this at the end when he said (i'm paraphrasing) "thanks to Pitchfork for inviting us to do this...and making us perform a u-turn"

Having various different streams of this all day at work, I'm left with one feeling: wow. I would've given more than my left nut (my right one) to see this, and that feeling is more acute having watched all these vids.

this gig reaffirmed something I have thought for a while: that Avey is massively underrated and epitomises what i think is the real genius this band. but conversely, I also was struck by an even greater realisation (WAIT FOR IT...) In a world as big as it is, with as many people as there is on this planet, how genuinely miraculous and incredible is that two guys found each other and created the most personal and idiosyncratic yet collaborative music? Sounds wanky as hell, but it's true. You know that "we know each other so well that we finish each other's sentences" thing that people talk about? Panda and Avey are the musical epitome of this.

Man the energy in the crowd for that song was so much fun and then how they almost immediately went into Mouth Wooed Her and Panda starting doing the weird bird calls... it was almost too overwhelming, I was losing my mind. I can't stop rewatching that part on the video lol
