thank you guys so much!! that's very kind of you to say. i really enjoyed meeting the people i met. everyone was so kind and generous and pleasant to be around. sorry to anyone i didn't connect with. my phone was dead basically the entire time. it was a super special weekend, and a lot of sweet memories were made. animal collective definitely brought it and really stepped it up the second night, in my opinion. that golden gal space out was so worth it, and whether or not they will do it in the future, it seems it was prepared for that particular performance, and it was damn special. also, all the amazing transitions, including where avey seemingly just improvs lyrics and does this little mini-song melody type thing. those are my favorite, and i think we got at least two of those. it was so very special. flying back to pa tomorrow, and i'll have a bunch of photos to share, that my wife is editing. thanks to those who recorded, we chilled outside last night and relived the first night. so thanks again for the effort that the recorders, splitters, uploaders, otherwise maintainers do. and thanks again to everyone i met this weekend, and even those i didn't, because everyone's vibe and presence made it great. when is the next one?

Hi all,
New to the board. Had used it in years past as a way to keep up on information and hear recordings (i guess this is called lurking). Had a fantastic time at Camping Weekend, tons of like minded folks all over made it real easy to cut loose and make some new friends, i cannot think of an unkind word exchanged. To all the people we now know from campsites 51-54 i appreciate all of the generosity and times that were shared, hopefully we can all do it again. Lonecyclone you killed it on the grill.
thank you everyone

I'm so glad the sentiment on this board is so positive, it sounded you like you guys had a really really great time and im jealous but I'm happy for you.
not too thrilled about some stuff I've read on the subreddit. awful lot of entitlement going on over there

I've only sprinkled a few comments and photos in so far but I've got to share just how much of a good time I had also.
Driving to Big Sur and reaching the campgrounds was such an exciting experience I had to remind myself that not only were we out in an amazing environment with good friends but we also had a whole lot of awesome bands to look forward to in the evening.
Personally the sound checks both days were really cool and unique experiences, being able to stand out in the middle of the woods sipping a beer and watching one of my favourite bands play through some tracks in broad daylight was surreal.
Part of me had an inkling that hoping for any type of special set or rarities would be unrealistic so it was easy to shift gears and get psyched on the more likely Painting With sets, especially when they're dropping tracks like Kids On Holiday and Water Curses into the mix.
Highlight of the shows for me was definitely Kids (amazing opener) and the first night in general blew me away, if you take a look at that setlist and take into account how jammy they've gotten between songs I had no idea what they were going to play next. (I'll admit I kind of ruined the element of surprise for night 2 as I had a clear view of Geo's setlist). Having said that night 2 was amazing in its own right, finally got to see Recycling live (woo!) and I was particularly feeling Natural Selection.
My only gripe if you could even call it that was the merch table, I thought for sure they'd have a sweet print or tee to commemorate the weekend and we forgot to grab stickers after the show so we unfortunately went home empty handed. I will however forever treasure my Fernwood resort beer koozie.
Overall good times with good people, I was up front both nights so I didn't pick up on some of the weird fan reactions until after the show at the tavern (some guy kind of half joked that he wanted a refund because of the "similar sets" :/).

This was the best weekend of all time! The weather was perfect and the vibes were so cosmic!
Both sets were absolutely amazing, the sound was great and the repeated songs were so different and jammy that it didn't matter at all. The Golden Gal SPACE JAM was on point the second night.
The whole experience felt like a dream- I cried several times out of pure happiness-
I definitely lost it on the first soundcheck when they played Kids on Holiday..
TIM, TREVOR, DREW, FREEMAN, SARAH, MARLIN, NATALIE, JOHNNY, SAM, SAIDA, JOHNATHAN, MAKALI, it was so fucking rad to see/meet/chill/smoke/drink/eat/play/jam/camp/share the experience with you all!

Seriously feeling some post-camping weekend blues because the setting/sets/vibes/trees/people were so beautiful. Never been part of such a communal and friendly atmosphere before, it was really special :')

Yo phantom, for sure. It was also so chill. You could walk right up to the front of the stage. There was really never much of a line for beer or anything. Free to roam around and do whatever you want. It was by far one of the best "festival" experiences I've ever had. I've never been more relaxed.

just to echo what everyone else is saying...super amazing time. I'm a little shy and didn't recognize many people but I did bump into Sam/Emerson/fovrodi! I'm waiting for some film to develop for all my pictures but here's a selfie at my campsite.
Just a little taste for now, not actually going to use the camcorder audio for the final show compilation videos!
edit: quite sorry it's not in sharp focus on the band members, I had the tripod on top of a cooler and the fidgeting to put it back up there took it back out of focus. admittedly I was also definitely doing things sub-optimally for most of the recording, and only started to learn because of friends I met that weekend who were carrying me with their knowledge!

had exactly the same feels. very special times. not sure if i met anyone from here but everyone was very awesome regardless.
hope something like this happens again but i talked to noah friday night and it doesn't seem like it'll be a repeated thing. he said it just came together quickly and worked with their tour this year but that he also wouldn't be opposed to it happening again either. hope is still good though

They are in the middle of a tour... When were they going to practice 5 new songs on top of the 4 they already introduced for this leg? Also they totally performed the 5 repeats differently and each set had a totally different vibe. They were so on their game. Someone tried putting their fucking dog on the stage first night and I was just like "nope here is your dog back" but I think they were locals or some shit. >:(((
HAHAHA i vividly remember this moment. i was wondering what the hell that guy with the dog was thinking. thanks for saving that potentially disasterous moment

Hi, all!
I had such an amazing time. The space, the intimacy, the music... absolute bliss. A very special scene. Just got back to Indiana yesterday and I'm still reassembling myself. Can't wait to go through my photos and everything folks have been posting.
I got to meet at least a few people who post here, though I only remember a couple usernames. Shout out to Michael for a timely burger when I was too excited to realize I needed it, and Mallory & Alex for helping me set off the first night.
I'm going to be in that place in my head for a very long time.

Hey all, don't spend too much time on the forum but my friend and I came from Delaware/Connecticut and met of tons of awesome people whose contact info we didn't get. Thanks everybody for a magical weekend.
Side note: Did anybody catch any of the track info of the songs playing between sets? Some of the best jams I've heard in long time.... choral/gospel to reggae to crazy beautiful house music to transcendent french ballots, and it all flowed so seamlessly. since there was no service in big sur, I wasn't able to shazam/soundhound anything. I saw Avey at the soundboard a few times and thought maybe he was curating the playlist? I didn't get a chance to ask him but it would be awesome if they released that playlist or something. If anybody is able to remember any of the tracks or caught them in a recording they could soundhound, maybe we could start a playlist of the songs? fingers crossed.
much love
- Greg
Ps: go easy on the cheetos

mikehosanna,
I don't have names but if you go back and find my post where I link to my recordings you can find a recording of almost the entire second nights house music. If you figure out any tracks I'd love to know what they are.

this looks killer and i really wish i could have been there, but is it kinda another example of ac getting a really cool opportunity to make a singular concert experience and treating it like another stop on their tour? i'm thinking of ATP (was there something unique about tomboy instrumentals?) and the concert at MPP in 2012. i recognize that they put tons of work and energy into getting their tours right and there are still examples of unique experiences like TTG, but some of these feel like missed chances. idk
So it actually wasn't Animal Collective who organized this whole thing, they were invited by Britt Govea of FolkYeah! https://mic.com/articles/146218/this-ba ... .P00xC3vgU I actually don't even consider the second night overlap to be "repeats" because they sounded SO DIFFERENT. The boys clearly have multiple versions of the Painting With jams and they feel and sound totally different. On Delay is a great example, night 1 was fast, fun and bouncy and night 2 was wayyyy slowed down, much more melancholy. The Golden Gal trip-out intermission felt specially orchestrated for the Big Sur Weekend though. I too had my hopes up for some deep cuts but when I saw no guitars/same set up during sound check day two I realized that probably wasn't in the cards-- that being said, the vibe of the two shows were totally different and that seemed intentional. That first day we had these lovely nurturing sounds (M. Geddes Ganges & Jessica Pratt) leading us into the show, my friends called it "a gentle brain massage" to ease us in the show. Then night two was all, "alright motherfuckers time to get weird" and Eric Copeland just blew our minds and got us HYPED for the trippy AC set. Even though I had all these bizarre fantasies about a live ODDSAC performance or Deakin joining them, I wasn't disappointed in the slightest with the setlists. It did make me sad that Deakin wasn't there at all. Since they were sticking with the Painting With setlist I suppose it makes sense that he wouldn't perform (though he could have opened with his solo stuff), it still seems weird that he didn't come to enjoy the weekend with all his friends. I hope there is nothing to read into there.

The 2 nights really did have different vibes. To me night 1 was high energy, rhythmic dance focused and the second night more of a head trip. Heavy elements of both each night, of course. The repeats sure didn't bother me. Night 2 Burglars was killer, night 1 seemed just a little wonky.
Excited to revisit the shows on recordings and sort out my experience.
