I mean, Tri Kid was an undeveloped song, like most everything else they played at MBV. But I think it has fun bones and could’ve developed in cool ways if they’d played around with it like some of the other tunes.

im thinking acab's gonna be like Taken Boy, a slower tune, but short and sweet.

My tip:

ATCAB will be like a Skiffs era Winter Wonderland type thing.

Slower, more vibey and more groovy than WWL but a similar short burst of energy. It'll have a solid groove but not too fast or crazy.

It'll have a bit of a quiet/loud dynamic with a quiet-ish verse that picks up in the chorus. The chorus melody will be one of those Avey ones that is like one really long line - lyrically and melodically.

It'll get to the point quickly (pretty obvious due to length) and the structure will be simple: just verse/chorus/verse/chorus - with maybe a quick little coda/outro section for 10-20 seconds at the end.

Mixed feelings on kings ending the album. Seems rather uneventful

Nah, it'll be rad.

It'll be like a 'Ponytail' type situation. A quieter, more reflective, minimal finish. Still rich and rewarding just not in a way that creates a spectacle.

Some other classic quiet/slower closers that have plenty of emotional impact and work brilliantly:

Talking Heads - The Overload dude!
Flips - Feeling Yourself Disintegrate / Sleeping on the Roof
Beach Boys - Caroline, No
Radiohead - Motion Picture Soundtrack, True Love Waits
Talk Talk - Wealth
Weyes Blood - Picture Me Better / Nearer To Thee
Wilco - Reservations
The Cure - Untitled
Slowdive - Dagger

Huh, that's cool but I really think it will be faster and jaunty. Picture Me Better/A Given Thing are my fave Weyes Blood so I probably would like a slower more soulful track but I think it'll be a fun send-off before King's sober catharsis

This is my response to zak and how I think Kings will feel as a closer!

Hell yeah. I’m definitely excited to hear it. Bringing the overload into it was a good touch haha. To be honest, I haven’t listened to boots of Kings very much so what I think it is in my head is probably a bit more minimal and less lush than it likely is.

hopefully the Star Wars guns sound FX are mixed really high in the studio version of "King's Walk"

I want this album to end with two passionate firing squads going at it while the boys' voices usher us out into the next dimension

that relix snippet calls kings a highlight (a “remarkable track” along with defeat) so i’m guessing it was beefed up somehow

Funny that the Flaunt write up calls King's a fan favorite. Maybe for fans who need to pee and want to grab another beer

Kings Walk is a tribute to the Kings who are willing to Walk away for a sec to grab you a beer so you don’t miss any of the show

I find it so wild that so many AC fans are surprised or shock that Kings Walk is the closer? I think it's a perfect song to end this entire 5 year Era...Time Skiffs had a mellow ending and if anything them ending it with Royal was a lotnmore surprising than this one with Kings.. I'm definitely happy Defeat wasn't the closer as that would've been the most cliche "hollywood" ending ever. ...I've definitely skipped over it a few times myself but not so much bc I didn't dig it tho. More or less bc of the mood I was in at times. I did enjoy it at the end of the Tiny Desk performance and I thought that gave great insight to how this albums ending will feel.

I'm not really surprised . For whatever reason I've always had trouble seeing AC as a band with big closing songs but even though they do have those all over the discog. The albums that most people think of as their best though don't really have those apart from "Brothersport." Sung Tongs, Strawberry Jam, and Feels all have closers that to me feel a bit underwhelming initially but really reveal themselves over time and eventually you can't imagine any other song ending the album. "Derek" and "Turn Into Something" have become some of my favorite songs of theirs but like only after being a fan for 13 years.

Besides Alvin Row, Brosport, and Amanita, I think all of them have been pretty laid back in a sense right? That's why I wanted Walker to end Skiffs so bad...

Said it before and I'll say it again, it baffles me the consensus here for King's Walk seems to be a big fat meh. Other than Defeat it was the main track that stuck out most to me from the '19 boots and the one I was most excited to hear a studio version of.

Also with the exception of Whaddit I Done, I generally feel that AC have stronger closers than openers...

Lol I love that when it comes down to it these guys are just like any other band trying to make things happen. Bandmate makes a folder to get everyone organized and he's the only one that uses it. "come on guys use the folder!" Very endearing.

Kings hasn’t done much for me yet because imo they don’t really SING in it and they don’t really SCREAM in it. They just kinda, um, make loud noises?

I want that super loud warm harmonic part of kings in the studio version to come through. Sort of like College & Drone

Anyone else like the super punchy accented bits on the drums for 24 and Bolder vs Car keys and We go Back. What they went with suits the album I just loved the super fun sounding drums in painting with and those early TS shows

Love the drums on Soul Capturer and can't wait for Gem & I and Stride Right.

It definitely seems to have made the biggest impression on the press of the non-single tracks. Likely because of the NPR performance but Genie’s Open had an arguably more significant radio show performance and no one is hyping that track up as of yet
