Thanks for ruining my thread with your dumb "haha what if AC lyrics were intended to be racist" jokes you guys >:(

Sorry about that. I was simply recycling age old conversation topics on this board re: the People cover and the Forest Gospel lyrics. It was a reference to CA lore, rather than hilarious AC prejudice. It is quite funny to imagine them as offensive in any way, though. The least outspoken, right wing or prejudiced group of musicians I've ever heard speak.

I mean that's what makes it so upsetting to hear a shitty band interpreting their lyrics that way. It would be pretty gratifying to hear them say "fuck that message" but that would require them to hear it and I get it if someone says "no more people actually need to hear this". So I sorta understand the trashing of it.

that quietus take on ac being emotionally stinted is so on point though. 40 yr olds making such childish wiggles songs... cringe. album’s just as bad as any star wars prequel

Was it this thread where we were talking about Nathan for you? Remember this season for smoke detectors he was trying to
cut shipping costs on it by getting it qualified as a musical instrument. I was thinking Honeycomb intro kinda sounds like a smoke detector.

I think it’s a fair critique to call Painting With childish, but is that such a bad thing? What it lacks in maturity, it makes up in energy. It also makes me think of this quote:

I'm sorry but what the fuck about Painting With sounds "emotionally stinted"? There's a lot of emotion in those songs, listen to the new live set they just put out.Yes they were going for something a little happier, something punchy and UP, they weren't trying to make a downer record, so it's childish? I don't follow that logic. Look at the solo stuff they put out, lot of MATURE THEMES.

Yea, I don’t agree that AC is ever emotionally ‘stinted’ (stunted?), but I would say that PW, Song Tongs, and STGSTV definitely have childish elements. And I mean that in a complimentary sense. Few musicians embrace their inner-child like Avey Tare does
In fact what I like about the band is that they’re pretty open to acting like goofs, particularly in a live setting in front of large audiences. Then moments later, they can switch it up to channel more serious and mature emotions. The P4k Sung Tongs live show is a perfect example of that

synthesizers cant be emotional yall emotional = soft male vocals and acoustic guitar and the only emotion is sad

synthesizers can certainly convey emotion, i dont think anyones arguing against that. i just dont think painting with is a very emotional use of synths

Their childlike playfulness has always been one of AC’s biggest draws, at least for me

Nothing wrong with being playful and positive at any age. I appreciate that AC goes there. Sometimes I listen to them when I'm in a bad or depressive mood so I can feel happy again. Definitely one of the reasons I love this band.

I had a dream last night that Avey did a solo show and he performed In the Flowers (and sang "sometimes I guess I have to miss my wife" before the drop) and when the drop came he danced around like crazy but the venue people were mad about the drop because they weren't expecting the concert to get so loud. Lol
They were like "look at your description of the music in the concert promo, you said it would just be "spacey"!"

Mr. Fingers is an old house music producer, AC put a track of theirs in one of their DJ sets. Pretty cool

They are some white bread Heinz looking streaks of piss, with their dad on rhythm guitar who's also their manager, and who's only in it for the nineteen year old groupies but don't tell mom or I'll wrap that friggin five iron round your throat. I'd love to hear their response to a very direct question. Always a treat to see this video again.
