Like who?
Definitely me, but I know I'm kinda wrong.
2017 has been spent listening to Chz a lot and there's something so incredibly intoxicating about it. I went through years of being completely sick of the sound, but I guess I recently fell in love with it again. I do think it's underrated, but I also know it's far from perfect.
Although New Town Burnout is a perfect song btw
For the record, I enjoy CHZ for the most part. Just thought that "deeply underrated" was an overstatement.

You can't even mention that you don't like Father Time, Wide Eyed or Monkey Riches, or that the album would be much improved by substituting Honeycomb, Gotham and Crimson for those three stinkers, to recapture the original concept and sound they were aiming for without someone biting your head off on this board.

You can't even mention that you like Centipede Hz, despite the flaws it may have, on any thread without someone (cough) mentioning that it's a disgraceful album that needs to be changed

has anyone ever been able to tell what deakin is actually doing in the 2002 shows? or for that matter what he does on HCTI? after years of listening to AC I can generally notice what sounds come from which person, but HCTI remains a mystery. obviously pandas drumming and singing, aveys on guitar, piano and singing, geo is making geo sounds.... i guess deakin’s also responsible for the “animal collective sounds”? of course they all do little subtle things in addition to their “main” instruments, but i still feel like on feels, SJ and even campfire songs i can distinguish deakin’s personal touches. not on HCTI

If I remember correctly Avey was the only member playing guitar at the time, and Deakin was just doing keyboards. So whatever keyboard sounds you hear on that album is the work of the Deak.

Avey: We were also messing around with some precarious equipment like putting vocoder triggers on the panda kit and putting my mike through effects and vocoders that geo or deacon would then manipulate and most of it didnt work half of the time. I was the only one that played guitar. I had a sweet sequential circuits digital delay rack unit which i used on Spirit and Danse Manatee to get all those glitchy broken sounding sounds and high pitch stuff and then it really broke on the hcti tour and noone has since been able to fix it. I think geo might have even played keyboard on a couple or atleast one of those tracks. We started playing alot of the songs at red hook blue in brooklyn and that was an awesome show
We recorded it live in three days and then noah and i did all the vocals at my house on mini disc players and added them in like electronic sounds along with those piano loops i made. I think we probably mixed it in three or four days too.
The tour shows were empty as far as people goes but we still had fun at most of them. Its the only time weve ever played lawrence kansas but it was a really sweet show.

this is a video of a hcti era show and you can see dave on guitar, noah on drums, geo doing his usual, and deakin just having a good time? i can’t really tell what he’s doing but i would guess that him and geo are using the same equipment maybe

Hey I'm getting more into Painting With after sitting on it for a while. Who wrote or sings "lead" on what songs? Anyone have a track-by-track breakdown?

^yup Panda wrote and sings 'lead' on LitG. It's weird because Panda's vocals fall on the offbeats and Avey's are on the downbeats, but it's vice versa on most of Panda's tracks (Hocus Pocus, Natl Selection, Spilling Guts, Summing). And then Recycling switches up who's on the downbeat partway through the line
Also fwiw it sounds to me like Panda and Avey are singing in unison on Golden Gal but Avey wrote it

I’ll probably change it then. Surprised though, lying in the grass? Panda? Ok
Also in the past I’d be totally against validating this with a post. This is the absolute worst piece of music journalism I have ever read or experienced. Ever. Is the quietus always this bad? I guess I’ve only read their guest pieces on favorite records and interviews.
http://thequietus.com/articles/19709-th ... ith-review
Truly, and this has nothing to do with my feelings about Painting With. I can appreciate that people don’t like it and I respect anyone who is disappointed in the record. But this is one of the most uninspired works put to writing by a person ever.

the quietus can do good work but that review is a joke. like oh yeah now you have a problem with the silly aliases, but you still look at their past work with spielberg face? the people who write reviews like that think they're speaking truth to power, but it's always more about historical expectations than the actual content of the music. take away the history and they wouldn't have this anger. that review is just masturbation with begging for money at the end, it is disgusting.

As we drift toward our 40s, though, should we still be bouncing around in this Neverland? Their take on maturity would be welcome. Instead, we get Iggle Piggle out of the Animal Collective remembering his Grandpops ('Bagels in Kiev') and 'Vertical', a sing-song number about things being tall, with EDM belches ("My feet can't cross the parking lot / The parking lot is way too hot" goes the chorus). The gang apparently went to Montessori-style schools where kids are encouraged to develop their creativity and so on, which suggests they might not have been plugged into the pop culture circuit like the rest of us. Perhaps the only formative musical memories they have to draw on are of nursery songs rather than Madonna, and Painting With is what people who weren't raised on pop music think it sounds like. Either way, you can't go one bar without wanting to shout, "Go to bed!"
tbh....LOL

but like the nursery rhyme bit has been a thing since too ssoon at least, this isnt new. the only answer to why now is because there's a pile on and that's weak

And “...what people who weren't raised on pop music think it sounds like” is particularly egregious. Thriller is their favorite album of all time for fucks sake

I love the albums like Sung Tongs, MPP and PW where their singing blurs into each other with hocketing etc. and you can't always tell whose who
Also that Quietus review is shit (we get it, you hear *lots* of EDM belches) but also pretty funny. Kinda taking a piss like the Brits might say.
Also thanks for the ATP Mediafire link
