^I trust either. I wonder if we could get another ben Allen tho...

man I'm just now appreciating how amazing the In the Flowers at Desert Daze was, Jesus. you can just feel how euphoric its effect on everybody is in the audience. panda's crushing those drums. this set up in general with deak/geo on synths/keys and avey on bass is just so crushed out

i don't know how they are going to make these panda tracks work with the flow of this new record--they belong on their own EP.

The third part of “Defeat,” particularly when Avey sings “defeat,” gives me the weirdest feeling, like this feeling of utter hopelessness. It sounds as if they’re floating in space or something, untethered, adrift. Kind of reminds me of that point in a psychedelic experience when everything seems perverse and confusing and subjugated to some impersonal force. You have to face this terrible emptiness. There’s something really cold and alienating about it. It’s beautiful, but I can’t put my finger on it. That they’ve achieved that effect is, to me, incredible. I’ve never quite felt this in a song.

thats exactly how i felt, ive never heard them this absolutely devastated before except for maybe laughing heiro or when it hurts bad enough it feels like this. i thought t was like staring a bad bad tsunammi in the face and gripping the sand on the beach before it flows on in.

Totally! Great descriptions ingenue/FEEL ON1NE!!!
Its such a profound part of the song. When I heard it live, I was gone. Out of my body and mind. It felt like a psychedelic experience and I wasn't on anything, not even drinking. It was one of the most profound live music experiences I've ever had. There's something about how loud and deep Avey sings "it isn't it NOWWW, DEFEAT!" juxtaposed with PB's weary vocal register "oh no, not now..." that feels so grim and empty. Like anger and submission. I felt like I was hearing the sound of people enduring a mass grievance. A really really dark vibe.

There's no way the album version will be able to match that feeling, and that's ok with me. I think when you treat Live AC and Album AC as two separate things, then there's a lot less disappointment over what the definitive version of a song is. At the end of the day, we should just be happy that Avey doesn't reverse this shit on us :downsrim: But also, its pretty badass that Avey reversed that shit on us. Haha.

I kiiiinda get what you mean but I quite like them and think they could add a nice buoyant bass-line energy for the record that soooorta matches the same emotional area as Cherokee and Bolder, tho both of those are more like 'euphoric' while Panda's are just kinda chill, groovy little jams. They feel like I different place for Panda then what he's offered on a AC record in a bit... almost Buoys-esque + full drum kit. Not aggro psych-punk like on Painting and not really the tropicalia psych folk pop of SW or MPP either... so I dig it.

But yeah Avey def seems to be kinda defining the energy of this. End of 24 almost feels like the new ending of Defeat in miniature... weird spacey little call-and-response vibe. Strangers and Gem are so damn catchy.

think this record could have a really cool blend of upbeat/happy AND heavy, sadder stuff, but yeah it all depends on track listing and if there is and what an EP or secondary release would be.

And to second Defeat hype, yeah I think about Avey saying 'deFEAT' like not he daily now..

panda's songs fit in with the vibe i think, and theyll give a good variety to the album playing catchy pop stuff like gem and i and strangers to add to the prog rock and ambient-ness of the other tunes!! thats a reason im real excited for this album, they are going a lot of different places where on painting with they were sortve hitting the same notes over and over.

I saw both nights of music box and I remember thinking it was ' to THINK: "oh no, not now" ' like I thought it was about not being present and in the moment and like that kiinda works to I guess...

Maybe they’re tracking? I can’t imagine they recorded everything in 2 weeks lol. Hopefully a September/October release, every time they’ve been recording in January it’s come out around then

yayyyy awesome news! I don't think 2 weeks is too short of a time to record a full album if the songs were written/developed in advance which it seems like they were from the tour

PW was recorded in June and the album was released in February, so yeah I'd guess September/October for this one

I'm leaning toward the idea that they were just rehearsing as prep for the actual sessions, would be happy to be wrong about that tho. And even if they were only rehearsing, that means the actual recording can't be far off, probably by next month sometime.

Isn't studio time very expensive? Isn't that how MBV ruined Creation or something (a long time ago)?
Do bands book studios for rehearsal?

Studio time has to be real expensive. HCTI was the first studio album they did and it was recorded in three days. SJ they apparently spent a month in the studio.

also the fact that the second tweet refers to "their new album" indicates to me that they recorded a new album while they were there

That's a rumor. Creation was already bankrupt. But yea, I would think studio time is very expensive.

The part in that blurb about a "geodesic dome" made me chuckle. A lot of this new material has that lounge/exotica vibe that reminds me of Arthur Lyman, who was known for recording in one. Quite fitting

Maybe those pics were from a rehearsal but I think it's safe to assume they have/are recording there based on these additional pics with laptops and mics. Asheville is also where Avey lives and recorded his most recent stuff so I think it's safe to assume they picked it as "homebase" for this album.

Hey I feel you. I've been listening to hunkswithguns' Big Sur boot every day this week. Defeat straight up made me start crying earlier. These songs are so special, I can't wait to hear them in high quality, with overdubs and all that jazz. The hype is real

maybe it's influenced by them touring these songs in october, but i get a real early autumn, october vibe from these jams, but i'd be happy to get them even sooner of course :)

These songs skew Fall-ish for sure, but Indian Summer works too (Aug. if they rush it out.). Their last fall record was CHZ and PW is actually a Spring-ish record so came a BIT early..
