I 100% doubt they'd be recording this soon. They could be writing though. Also is it a full panda tour this or just a couple of dates? Cause he's juggled dates between AC and solo before right?

In any case I'm excited

I see trees and a porch in the reflection of Noah's glasses... I get serious Campfire Songs vibes... maybe an acoustic album??

weird? are they in New Orleans to write new tunes? Kinda an odd choice seeing that none of them live there right? But thats so fucking early to record a new album at the same time.....this plot thickens..

Something acoustic would be fun and interesting, since they are all using electroncs (panda, dj set) lately it could be a chalenge for them. don't know, but I know that I would like to hear that, 11 years after sung tungs.

It is possible they'll be recording during the summer though, right? I mean, they've had a pretty long stretch to get some juices flowing. I know a lot on here, myself included, aren't so confident of a release this year but at the same time I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Isn't it Ironic? Wide Eyed is the jam, the live version of it are sweet too.

think about how slow they work though. there is almost always a 1 &1/2 year stretch between the time they write songs/start performing them and when they finally release the album

Strawberry jams written late 2005/early 2006, released September 2007
Merriweather jams written ~May 2007, released January 2009
C Hz jams written ~January 2011 released September 2012

This is often true for solo stuff too, I think PB was performing Person Pitch material as early as 2004? And since the success of Merriweather, it seems like they're in a place financially where they can take a bit longer on album cycles - which is cool with me cause it usually means the end product is even better

But yeah I don't think we're gonna hear new AC studio tracks until 2016 at the earliest

Have to say I really can't get into Wide Eyed but listening to the Keep EP now I love deak's track- hoping for more now...... Anyone able to point me to some panda/deak harmonies I might have missed? Really hope there's some coming up

Yeah, you're almost certainly right. I'm letting blind hope get the better of me.

Out of interest though, how much of a disparity has there been before between when they say they're going to release an album and when they actually release an album?

I'm hoping they don't tour with the songs before recording this time around. I'd really love a finished product dropped into our laps when the time comes.

For them that would be something new and it'd be cool to see happen. Though its really sweet to see how songs change from live to studio.

I was thinking about this the other day.

In fact, I probably would have enjoyed CHZ a lot more if they released an album beforehand. The songs were pretty complete from the very beginning of that era so it's not as if they had to tour to "test them out".

I know every album they've done is special, but I have this feeling that the next one will be at the absolute top tier of animal collective albums. Like i am just so incredibly excited for this album

You must listen to the second ultimate AC one-off, after Glasslands, which is the Noah's Ark show from 2004. Noah and Josh playing together drunk in Japan, sounds like they just jammed out a few sketches they'd come up with at some point. One untitled song where Noah sings in a falsetto is probably the great unreleased Animal Collective work. So beautiful I only ever listened to it on my own when nobody else was around. It's barely a song, just some scales and then this incredibly fragile angelic coo. It's the holy grail and the sound I wish they'd explore one day. It's the looseness and jamminess of the early stuff with a Feelsy/Tongsy instrumentation and vocals like Young Prayer mixed with Tomboy. They'll never go back to it now but I'll always cherish what there is. Never again repeated elsewhere, though the show did also spawn Learning How To Dive. Check the live archive on this board.

saying it 'spawned' how to dive probably isn't really accurate (i assume it was written in 2002/2003 around the same time as other sung tongs material?) but it's the earliest recording. shame it's not on any of the 03 acoustic boots.

my theory too is that the Together performance with noah + rusty santos from a few weeks earlier has some kinship with the noahs ark material (man i'd like to hear the rest of the tour). very similar vibes from pb

Yeah, that's true, poor choice of word. It didn't spawn it at all. Totally agree about the Together show, too. I've not listened to that in a while but it gave me the same golden age vibe when I first heard it, that sense that they're putting one foot in front of the other, tentatively taking familiar elements into new territory.

Do you think a lot of the record is written already? Panda said in that one interview that he had been writing for 5 weeks or something like that for the new one. And they have to have been doing something spending all this time together
