i'm glad no one up front at mass moca recorded the show because the dude next to me kept screaming "DO YOU GUYS NEED A TRUMPET PLAYER?" during l'rain and animal collective's sets. it was so funny!!!! i only wish he did it more
Wait a second. Wat
Yup, not sure if birdmangus heard it because I was in between. He also kept recording short clips and would say to his friend each time “this is getting sampled!”
The trumpet shit was actually embarrassing
Lol that's so embarrassing. Some ppl have no self awareness with that shit, add in alcohol and it gets even worse (not 100% related but I'm getting flashbacks to CHz tour when this obv drunk girl and her boyfriend were bodyslamming into me and my friend the whole show -no mosh pit- and then tried to follow us back to our car after the show after we told them to stop)
So I listened to my recording of the Chicago show and while most of it sounds pretty good, I had to take a freebird during Stride and put the recorder in my wife’s purse, which really muffled the sound on that one. Also you can hear my wife talking occasionally, ha. It needs some work to say the least.
But if no one else recorded it and someone’s willing to do some doctoring, I’ll post it. Otherwise I’ll throw it in the fireplace
This cuts off the very beginning and end of the set but is a great angle and pretty good sound (booth = no crowd banter!). I know at least one other person got the whole thing because dude directly to my left shot the whole thing on his iPhone

Any word on that second show in Madison, WI? Hoping they can find a venue cause I'll travel for that one. Think it would be the last before the Seattle fest/Europe.
Just saw them in MSP Monday night, but I'm keeping my eyes peeled for this one too and hoping to catch it. Haven't seen anything other than TBD at this point however.
gonna be at the newport show tonight, hoping the rain isnt too bad when it comes to waiting for doors. these setlists have been insane, hoping they play applesauce and screens but with how stacked everything's been i don't think i'll be disappointed either way
Oh and I have to share that I took my lady to the First Ave show. She's slowly been exposed to them over our relationship. Could only enjoy Jimmy Mack when we met and was put off by everything else.
But she said it was probably the best show she has ever seen and she 'gets it' now. Even wants to catch that 2nd Madison date. Made me so happy. <3
Yeah Gem not getting much love this time around. Filling me with a nameless dread
I didn't even realize because I got to hear it at my show. Was my biggest hope to catch and it did not disappoint. MY buddy's a big AC fan (saw AC and Panda for the first time together) but he hasn't listened to any boots and his favorites after hearing these cuts for the first time were Stride Rite and Gem and I -- Crowd loved it too

I was floored by tonight’s set. Kinda a bummer about deaks situation during chores which took me out a bit from the rapture I was in but I was so amazed and into this new phase of the band. It was my first show back since painting with tour and it felt really good. Defeat was definitely a highlight and I was blown away by applesauce. I thankfully avoided spoilers so it was a true delight to also get reverend green at the end! My only complaint was I was really hoping to hear prester John.
Thank you anco! Hope you all get an opportunity to see them right now! It’s wonderful as always!
the breakdown they did while running repairs during chores was so sick. that entire set was incredible.
defeat.
god damn deak's been having a tough time on this tour. His keyboard cut out in the middle of magicians in NJ and he looked so pissed and said something like "sorry this is fucking ridiculous" Someone make sure his stuff works!

I was up front, it actually got rattled off stand by the bass vibrations during Magicians. He tried to duct tape it but eventually just got rid of his blanket, which fixed the issue.
People we're chanting "duct tape!" during the beginning of Cherokee because something similar happened, but that's when he fixed it for good. All in all, I feel bad for him but they're so so so good at playing off those mistakes, I forgot it even happened til now.

Oh yeah, I was on the other side of the stage and could feel it during Flowers, still kind of drives me crazy that these guys seem to be running into stuff like this 20 years into their career. I don't think it's at all a fault of theirs, starland seemed like a sound issue, but it has to be frustrating. When it happened I got a little worried and had flashbacks to the last time I saw the full band at gov ball 2013 where they just stopped in the middle of purple bottle and avey walked off stage ending the set. They really rebounded back this time though.
Shame that happened, especially during Chores of all songs but I'd kill to see the band have to jam on the spot like that, I really wanna see them stretch their legs

Yeah it happened during the “at the end of the dayyyyyyyy when there’s no one watching” slowdown. So we didn’t get the whole end bit where the song picks back up unfortunately. But it was really awesome to see the other 3 do their own thing for a few minutes. They were so in sync and Panda/Avery were both singing so I thought just maybe it could be a snippet of something they are actually working on. Who knows.

There hasn't been much jamming this leg. I suppose they're playing Defeat at like every show so there isn't a whole lot of wiggle room
Something’s been on my mind: when I saw the guys in Brooklyn, there was one line in Stride Right that was sung solo by Panda. Has it been a reoccurrence anywhere else on the tour? I’m a sucker for those brief vocal solos and interplays

Hmm i don’t hear that in the bootleg. Just pandas backing vox in the chorus.
Time stamp?
edit: to add to this i just noticed deakin removed the 2021 chord changes in the chorus from stride rite. not a huge deal but they def made the chorus a lot more powerful imo
Genie's Open
Prester John
We Go Back
Chores
Slayer
Stride Rite
Cherokee
Gem and I
No More Runnin
Defeat
Strung
Applesauce
Screens
Magicians
For Reverend Green
They played Screens? That's awesome, definitely need to check that out. That's really surprising considering I didn't think they would ever play anything from Oddsac live. I wonder how different it is. Oddsac has so many gems. It's a shame none of them besides Screens have been performed live. I guess they really don't want to separate the music from the movie. Understandably so. Really wish I could have gone to the first show on their tour. I had a ticket but for personal reasons I couldn't go. Must have been magical. I would love to hear Magicians and Defeat live. Those two songs had better be on their next album but I get the feeling they might be going on an EP. Magicians has such a different tone and vibe from anything else they've done as a band and it's great.
Curious to see if anyone got a decent boot of the show in Richmond, VA at the National? I've been skimming through the Live Recordings thread and this one to see and I'm going to keep looking but if anyone knows for sure whether one exists or not let me know. So far I'm only finding bits and pieces with subpar audio. Everything I find has hardly any mid or treble and entirely too much bass.

funny and ironic that they jammed more on the PW tour than they are in their current "jam band/dad-rock" phase
The Painting With tour was so good, brought so much more energy to those songs. Probably my favorite show from them I've been to. Only seen them 3 or 4 times though.

Yeah I haven’t been able to find a point in the bootleg where I hear it either. Maybe it was more of a brief moment than I remember, most likely at 01:40:28. I agree Stride hits so much harder now, especially with the new lyrics!
I’m really stoked with all the Deakin-Panda harmonies. Their voices fit in really well with each other where I get lost in the chorus of their frequencies.
Enjoyed Nashville so much last night. Quickly realized it was gonna be very much the same sort of set they did in '19 and '21 but its super refined now (maybe it always was) and I haven't seen them since '18 music box so this was long needed
a few thing before I start to forget:
-l'rain seemed mad at us. maybe it was nothing but she seemed exasperated...we did miss an applause once but it was after a really pretty song and they didn't fully stop playing, going into anther song AC style and she started cracking up that no one applauded. But I no joke had tears streaming down my face from the prior song. If it's already released I'll find it cuz damn. So messed up she interpreted our speechlessness that way.
then later I think she was hushing us during a song, and I think they thought it was awkward that the audience tried to help their synth dude do a clap loop badly.
But besides THAT...band was incredible. I just feel like the lead-singer thought we kinda sucked sadly lol.
-love how most of the skiffs 1 songs now have pretty fleshed out intro or outros to the point that DS, and esp Car Keys have almost totally new "parts". Those songs are like the center of the Skiffs live tracks
-so glad songs like Magicians, Defeat and Genies are big staples rn. In an alt universe, they stay curios of the lost '19 show era and Music Box... but them and so many other new songs seem like live staples now in the same way MPP (or SJ/Feels) songs do as well
-I wanna say I'm bored with Flowers and No More Runnin (speaking of live staples) but those being THE staples from MPP still feels like a good meshy vibe with Skiffs stuff and they're played so damn well. NMR. is a little more groovy now and the bass is booming.
-I didn't get [spoiler we never thought we'd get] but its cool because im seeing at least 2 more times in May.
-new songs I wanted and didn't get was: Passerby, WGB, Stride, Zodiac. But again, 2 more shows at least. I weirdly didnt mind not getting Prester. Cherokee might have been Skiffs 1 highlights
-Genies feels so right as encore intro... it fr feels Brother Sport-y tier in terms of what it brings to a set.
-Defeat sounds better than ever. Incredible. Tears streaming down my cheeks at beginning of 3rd part. That now feels like the climax to me instead of the "deFEAT, oh no, not now" which is more like the outro now. Middle section is incredible. Just amazing. I could tell a lot of the audience knew the unreleased songs but not sure, but either way, you feel people really in tune with this one. Like it hits people even their first time...
But ya so glad its a staple and they're just doing longer sets to allow for it.
Applesauce is heroic. anyway, this was amazing. Ranks up there with first PW tour show when I heard Alvin Row first and with the Music Box shows too. Amazing. And reaffirming in that I dont even slightly regret going crazy and buying 4 more tickets for may shows. I should see them this summer to shoot.
anyway, #rant but my take on the show. o and I really like my voice memo "bootleg" I took. You can hear that its in my pocket most of the time and for some reason I cut off very end of main set and start re-recording for encore, but man its honestly not bad. Maybe not quite good enough to share, but I will fr boot the Kansas and Denver shows now doing this but with a lil more effort. I love being able to listen back to my specific show, incredible.
p.s. some of these transitions are insane. Car Keys into NMR, damn
