Banshee Beat -- played pretty traditionally. BLISS
Cherokee (AV) -- chill minimal dreamwave? i dig this!
24 (PB) -- meandering aquaguitar with loopy electronics; solid Panda beat
Kings -- 3-PART HARMONIES ....... melted. and Avey singing through vocoder. deadly... AMAZING. CHILLS.
In The Flowers -- always sounds amazing
Strangers (PB) -- wooooooow HCTI-esque manic drums segues into super pop PB song, reminds me of a more streamlined-pop CHz era PB song?
Defeat -- the epic... vintage AC, new AC, melodica, build up, the back and forth. wow.
No More Runnin -- classic..........
Pulleys -- interesting inclusion but it kept the vibe
Gem and I (PB) -- goofy sounding instruments (PW-ish) squishy dinosaurs, etc. but more meandering in parts
Grass -- Avey on the top of his game... so much energy/passion here... thicker and punk
Down Down Down (D) -- Deakin slow country jam classic in the marking...
Bolder (AV) -- a little bit of a jazzy drum beat from Panda (i love it) with some real sparkly keys + deep simple bass grooves... kind of a chill song like "no more runnin"
man i like the direction they're heading............. very promising
loved the panda/avey back and forth on 24 and the Kings harmonies was exactly what I dreamed of
It's gonna be a long wait for this album

I fucking love you people. I can't believe it's only 9:57, my time, and I'm already listening to someone's recording. Cannot believe I'm hearing new songs right now.

If they somehow don't fuck Defeat up in the studio, it could be one of their greatest ever.

People complaining on reddit about too many new songs. Anyone know the best, fastest way to swat someone? Cheers.
holy fuck defeat. ngl i was never into it from the music box boot. but god damn panda bear's addition. this is one of the best animal collective back and forth singing between avey and panda ever. im tearing up.

i just love the frog ribbits at the end of "defeat..." i only listened to the music box boot once so not sure if it was on there then, but i hope it makes the final recording.
im struggling to remember the last time new material hit me like defeat is rn. i was a huge fan of buoys, cows, pw, motw, painters, everything in the past few years but this shit hits different. it feels like they've tapped back into the feels energy or something, idek what it is. its that OG AC magic je ne sais quoi that lured me into them
I like this version of Downdowndown more than the Music Box, glad Deakin's getting some chill tunes like this. The vocoder is a dope touch
Idk how I feel about Bolder tbh haha? It doesn't sound like anything they've done before and that "Bolder" refrain made me chuckle outloud
Hoping for Magicians from Baltimore and maybe Peanut Butter Hearts to return at some point, but other than that I love the new jams! Can't believe the new era has begun
defeat, music box and that performance, has to be one of the most armor piercing songs thatve played possibly eve,r next to walked like a dog from glasslands and spongeluke, what the fuck is going on...also im not ashamed to say when i heard the opejning of no more running i teared up, what a perfect song to follow up defeat, i fucking cant right now
maybe the reason a lot of these new songs sound so good is because they're like patient again. think it's really been a loooong time since most of them have done anything like this.
thoughts:
-really like this version of downdowndown
-favorite parts of this set are prob cherokee and 24
-love how different all the new songs are from each other
-this feels like such a departure from the painting with sound
-also hoping to hear more of the nola stuff pop up throughout the tour, really surprised peanut butter hearts and magicians from baltimore are absent just because of how strong that material was
-have a feeling the sets this tour will vary a bit
that performance was next level. i have no shame in calling that one of their best even if they fucked up in the flowers. grass dude. this is the most faithful to recording theyve ever played any of their songs in a new era and the new songs were all fucking amazing. strangers, DEFEAT OBVIOUSLY and that second part of cherokee...this music they are making...
This Jazzy vibe they got going on! Wasn't expecting this!

I've been working on a master of hotdogdan's boot since he posted it, should have it done/split/uploaded by tomorrow afternoon if no one gets to it first
Cherokee and 24 are excellent. Their voices are so on point throughout the whole show. Maybe some of the best performances of Banshee Beat and No More Runnin. The middle of Defeat is a lil goofy now, and I feel like in general all the sections of the song don't quite flow as well together as in the Music Box performance, but it's honestly kind of worth it for how incredible the last section is now. They took an already incredible part and made is hit so much harder. At first I thought Gem and I sounded too similar to Strangers, but I think Gem and I might be my favorite of the two. Bolder is kind of an odd song, especially for a closer, but oh man they improved Down Down Down so much. Overall it's p undeniable that they're covering some new territory here, exciting to hear them play such patient, longform songs.
