Yeah it makes sense that they said no then, and obviously they've changed a lot in the past 9 years. It's still kinda surprising to me that they're doing this show but I'm not gonna complain
Also I feel like a hypocrite because normally I think these kind of full album performances are dumb but I'm so excited for this one lol

yeah that interview was nearly 10 years ago, plus what Geo said remains true: *most* of their albums would be very hard to recreate live as they are known. but Sung Tongs is - for the most part - just Avey & Panda singing & playing guitar.

Although I get that it's been a while since that interview, and I can totally see why they'd be fine with doing a full performance of sung tongs, what I'm more surprised about is that they'd do it at a pitchfork event. I guess because pitchfork probably directly asked if they would do it? it was probably cool for them to hear that people want something like that. but pitchfork as a publication does not seem like something AC would naturally support you know

Because of negative reviews? I don't think they care. Panda and Slasher Flicks both played at one of their fests a couple years ago so they don't seem to have qualms about it

No, it's not the review scores themselves, I don't think they care about that. but avey at least has said multiple times that he disagrees with the idea of rating music, and even having favorites. I just feel like ideologically they don't really agree with the concept of pitchfork becoming a critic mogul / taste-maker. I get that they wouldnt care if it was a pitchfork festival, but this is a pitchfork-focused event, more so than the festival would be
But yeah, a gig is a gig, and idk if they're even thinking about it like this at all. If i were in their position i wouldnt care, i'd be happy to do it
