I've got a few interesting reactions.
Firstly negative ones (mainly from my parents)
I remember when I got Strawberry Jam on vinyl and played it in the house my mum thought that the record was playing at the wrong speed when the intro to Peacebone played. She also described them as "just noise" when the record was finished.
My mum also described AnCo as a "demonic Vampire Weekend" when I first played Centipede Hz on vinyl and "too repetitive" when I played Sung Tongs on vinyl.
I also remember showing my dad Honeycomb for the first time. He thought it was dubstep.
Oh and I put on Merriweather Post Pavilion in art class and the teacher told me to turn it off when it got to Guys Eyes because it was "too repetitive" Repetitive seems to be a common complaint
I also got a few complaints from people back in my Music Tech class for playing The Purple Bottle. Mainly for the "wwoooooah get that wooooooaaah get that" part.
Now positive reactions!
I introduced AnCo to some old friends who used to be in a band with me and at first they didn't like AnCo but now they kinda like them. One of them can't get enough of For Reverend Green and who can blame him really.
I've started going out with this girl and she asked to listen to some AnCo, because she knows I'm obsessed with them. So far she's listened to Painting With, Centipede Hz, Merriweather and Strawberry Jam and has enjoyed all of them. Kinda afraid to show her anything pre-SJ.
Also, in regards to ringtones. I used to have Daily Routine as my morning alarm. Although I guess the "just one sec more in my bed" line doesn't really help.

My dad heard who could win a rabbit and baby day after I bought the rabbit promo cd and he wanted detailed explanations about their "meanings" because that's the kind of guy he is. Rabbit was easy to BS through, but Baby Day was a little ridiculous.
Showed Sung Tongs to a guy I know who is a wrong generation type, and he goes "their vocals remind me of Simon and Garfunkel, obviously nowhere near as good tho"

One of the only times I've ever really shown their music to anyone was when I had Water Curses playing during a part of this youtube video that I had made and my friend asked me what it was. Told him who it was by and he seemed to like it.

Ya so, I'm short tempered, right? Right. Therefore, when I listen to AC around other people, I totally put it on boss mode and full rage to it ... For the most part, it kinda pauses people to blurt out their opinions BC I make it clear that it would matter to me in the first place hahaha.. But I mean, I'm careful who I play AC for .. I really don't like shitty comments about their music and especially from closed minded pricks .. zero tolerance

my parents actually don't seem to mind animal collective too much. i've put quite a few of their songs + solo songs on the cds i've made for them and the only one that's gotten a negative reaction was oliver twist.
of course i haven't played any of their really abrasive stuff for them on purpose. i was listening to danse manatee one time and the living toys was playing and my dad walked in the room and asked me what the fuck i was listening to.

My kid is digging on both Panda and AC (the brainwash has been successful muahaha).
We've got my neighbor in the car with us yesterday and the little person starts in from her booster seat:
"Can we listen to Floridada, or is it too weird for Lisa?" I chuckle, but play it.
About a minute in, Lisa calmly makes the statement that yes, it is too weird for Lisa.
That's when my kiddo sighs and mumbles, "Well, I guess Burglars is out then...."

wow this is the best thing i've seen on the internet today (other than no age's song eraser actually now that I think about it)... but anyway very happy for you and your grandpa goku. i said earlier that my parents only like water curses, my dad has it on one of his spotify playlists and my mom has praised it. but like even my girls and daily routine annoy my mom (i totally understand why). on the other hand i turned my younger sister (only sibling) into a complete addict and we went to a show together last month. anco has made us way closer and so that's a really great thing that anco's given me
Another thing, i know it's obvious but it's funny when you remember much of super fans we all are. we are on here constantly talking about dozens of obscure songs from deep in their discog and not even saying the full names of those songs haha. obsessives

(coolodges / off topic):
ha thanks! yeah i always say the wire is the best tv show but looking back i'm a hell of a lot more sentimental about the sopranos, and the sopranos might actually be the better show honestly...i'll always have a special place in my heart for it i think. part of the reason might be that i've lived my whole life in suburban north jersey and the show actually captures the vibe of the area / time period very well lol, so many recognizable filming locations for me too...that gif is from the episode 'remember when', right? one of my favorites
on topic: one time i had to teach a class on dali, and at the beginning of the class i shut the lights off and i started it off with a five minute slideshow of a couple dozen of his paintings set to 'loch raven', was a really magical moment, anyway i remember someone afterwards asked whether or not the vocals were sung in english or another language lol

when I was drunk with my dad for the first time, we went over to his friends place who is a huge grateful dead fan and a big music nerd with a big vinyl collection (u know the type, only listens to dad rock etc). I became way too drunk and played him gotham on his big ass speakers and said "THIS IS TOTALLY THE GRATEFUL DEAD OF OUR GENERATION, MAN". when we where half way trough the song he told me that he didn't like it very much and didn't see the connection, so I cranked up the fucking volume and shouted "WE NEED TO PLAY IT LOUDER!!

". the room drowned in the song so nobody could talk and everybody started to stare at me but I didn't care because I was having the time of my life and didn't realize that I was making a fool out of myself until the morning after.
I think my dad's friend just enjoyed my excitement but my dad doesn't want to get drunk with me anymore and I wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with that night

I guess that it is hard for our bf/gf to listen to animal collective, there is a certain pressure et expectation. Mine actually like them and listen to person pitch once in a while.
We started dating during the Grim reaper era so there was a lot, really a lot of panda bear discussion also we watched the MoMA live stream together aha
Also my dad sung floridada well he just yelled/sung "Floridadada floridadada" and so on to make fun of me . I was fun and nice.

Yeah, loved one's have to be down with with the horrifying Avey clown. My husband, who is extremely into classical and opera, thankfully was open minded about them, and now really likes them. Or likes that I love them? Either way they're cool.
I remember when one of my best friends just hated animal collective because all of us in high school were pretty much "hipsters," so his way of out-hipstering us was hating AC. Literally said "Animal Collective is kinda like pizza. Everyone says its amazing, but it's really just shit, and it's not good for you..."
Then we started smoking weed more and he warmed up to them.
