I would agree about PB and AC in general that many times, the songs I like the least initially end up being some of my favorites after repeated listens. It's really wonderful the way that the listener gets to slowly unravel their songs.

I need to listen to something else...I've already lost track of how many times I've listened to this EP on Spotify today

i kinda like how all the songs are changing/switching confirmed names. all these songs kinda feel like levels of dante's inferno or something. or like nameless waves on a giant ethereal beatbox.
random selections from a top 40 from another universe where panda bear is every popstar and he has tons of different personalities with varying tone and feel and subject matter, ha ha.

I had similar thoughts. They both feel very scifi and Faces in the Crowd sounds like it could've come from the same album as New Town Burnout for sure but it sounds like the songs on the EP are given a bit more room to breathe, which I like.

My one complaint would be that both the beat and warped woodwind sample in This Side of Paradise are much lower in the mix than i'd prefer (i always felt that sample WAS the song!), it's almost like the vocals are drowning them out. But that's probably just my fault for listening to the bootlegs so much. I love all the added sounds though, lots going on under the surface and the droney outro was a nice surprise :)

these are my exact thoughts about the song, and the buried drums/sample is the only real criticism I have about the EP. brilliant otherwise

^I agree with you guys. I didn't listen to that song on the boots and I think that sample is buried too far behind the vocals. I feel that the vocals are too overpowering in certain places, including this song and especially Mr Noah

I didn't listen to a single boot, and late last night I was about to get in bed when I saw this had been released. Rolled a little joint, lay down, closed my eyes, and was actually a little teary by the end of Mr Noah. A song hasn't surprised and delighted me like that since I don't even know when. Love the direction.

Well, if they didn't like chz because of too much sound, I would expect the same complaint with this.

I'd say Mr. Noah was the busiest track of the EP and it got BNT from Pitchfork.

I predict 8.0 for the EP
I predict an 8.8 for the LP

now watch me fly

It's also been 2 years since C Hz, and P4k has changed staff members, not to mention trends and people's taste in general have changed as well. A lot of factors are at play here, so I wouldn't be so quick to say that P4k would give Greaper the same assessment as C Hz. Plus it could very well be a different reviewer.

I've already heard the Greaper/C Hz comparison once or twice on this board. I'd agree that both records are busy-sounding, but they're also very different in many other ways.

I can't explain why, but I think the Mr Noah video matches the song really well. Just something about them that goes together well in my head.

Why are we caring about scores all of a sudden? You think you can boil down this experience into a rational number on a scale from 1-10? If it's someone else's job to do it, let them worry about it.

I give this post a solid 4.6

JK, but for real I actually agree with you 100% Roark. If I have my way, I don't want to ever read P4k's review of Greaper or even know the score—I'm too afraid of it subconsciously affecting my view of the album. Regardless of whether it's a high or low score.

I may read the review years from now down the line if I feel so inclined. But I don't plan to read it when the album is released or anytime soon thereafter

This dog got bit on a leg
He got a really big chip on a leg
Don't want to get out of bed
Less he feel like it justified

Here comes the loaf again
Drip a lot, drip a lot
Become an oaf again
Trip a lot, trip a lot
So wide to the other side
Shuts an eye
But he stays like a stump inside
Hey hey hey

Upon the gusts he glide
Brittle mind, brittle mind
Toward a bigger sign
Every time, every time
So much for the safest vibe
Tossed aside
But he burns like a blaze inside
Hey hey hey

Untying the Knot would make a killer AC song if it got fleshed out by the dudes. I can hear Avey vocal polyrhythms in my head...

So cool how on Untying the Knot he layers each new vocal melody until there are 4 of them playing over each other.

There are ways to recreate this effect live, plenty of artists do it, e.g. James Blake with I Never Learnt to Share. So I wonder why PB didn't try to recreate it in the live setting. Either way, it sounds damn cool on the studio version.
