Put everything together by tones & tempos.

Strung With Everything

Walker
Broke Zodiac

Seperated but I like the way it sounds straight through.

Haven’t done this at all yet. Making it something to look forward to on official release day. Really excited for my first mega mix play through.

IMO it's difficult to sequence these songs when the production and stylistic choices can be so different between albums. Sometimes a song that would otherwise transition well out of another song doesn't have the right kind of intro, like it's too cold of an open, or the changes in drum and vocal levels can be jarring. I like where my playlist is right now, but I can't seem to get it completely perfect in those senses.

Happy release day y’all my first attempt at mixing it up! I love Defeat, but it works so well as a stand-alone and I feel like Piggy adds a little je ne sais quoi to the other songs that works too well to not try

2. Prester John
3. Broke Zodiac
4. Dragon Slayer
5. Magicians From Baltimore
6. Gem & I
7. Piggy Knows
8. All The Clubs Are Broken
9. Strung With Everything

10. We Go Back
11. Car Keys
12. Stride Rite
13. Cherokee
14. Walker
15. Passer-by

Here are the three playlists I've come to appreciate. All are in the 37 minute range and split approx. 50-50 between albums. They are 3, 6, and 9 tracks long. I tried to avoid back-to-back tracks from the same album and the same songwriter. In general, these are grouped according go how the songs make me feel.

3.
Prester John
Defeat
Genie's Open

6.
Magicians From Baltimore
Passer-by
Stride Rite
Cherokee
King's Walk
Royal and Desire

9.
Strung with Everything
Gem & I
Dragon Slayer
Broke Zodiac
We Go Back
All the Clubs are Broken
Car Keys
Soul Capturer (single version)
Walker

the "Order In Which They Were Debuted Live (full band)" mega LP

Cherokee
Car Keys
King's Walk
Broke Zodiac
Defeat
Gem & I
Royal and Desire
We Go Back
Prester John
Dragon Slayer
Passer-by
Stride Rite
Walker
Genie's Open
Magicians From Baltimore
Soul Capturer
Strung With Everything
All the Clubs Are Broken

making a tracklist with the way actual vinyl sides are.. sort of putting the physical media on shuffle:
(Skiffs never shoulda been a double LP)

Dragon Slayer
Car Keys
//
Soul Capturer
Genie's Open
//
Defeat
//
Passer-by
We Go Back
Royal and Desire
//
Broke Zodiac
Magicians from Baltimore
//
Gem & I
Stride Rite
All the Clubs Are Broken
King's Walk
//
Walker
Cherokee
//
Prester John
Strung With Everything

absolutely agree. hard to say if the 45rpm master has any benefit. and like strawberry jam, would've worked better split across three sides with a blank side D.

or even better in this case (imo) simply cut strung to make it a single LP:

A
dragon slayer
car keys
prester john
walker

B
cherokee
passerby
we go back
royal and desire

or if you wanna keep strung, cut walker and prester's outros to shave off 2:30, then you could just about squeeze the first five tracks onto side A clocking in at 23:15.

Skiffs + Now as a hero's journey/monomyth
wrote:
King's Walk: the call to adventure
Magicians from Baltimore: the ordinary world
Gem & I: refusing the call
We Go Back: travelling to meet mentor
Soul Capturer: mentor, supernatural aid
ATCAB: final look back at the ordinary world
Sundown with Cecil (or Sux-Bier Passage): crossing the threshold between worlds
Cherokee: exploring the adventure world, tests and foes
Passerby: temptress figure
Walker: wise ally figure
Piggy Knows: comic ally figure
Car Keys: more tests and foes
Dragon Slayer: penultimate foe
Stride Rite: atonement with father figure
Prester John: ultimate foe
Broke Zodiac: pre-abyss dream sequence
Defeat: abyss, realisation
Strung with Everything: apotheosis, ultimate reward
Genie's Open: flight back to the ordinary world
Royal and Desire: master of the two worlds, freedom to live

can't someone just tell me objectively what the best tracklist is for these two together? have tried a bunch and just can't make up my mind on the definitive order for my playlist!

I'll admit I haven't given yours a listen because I do really want the albums more deeply intertwined
