looks like yes, thanks for the heads up

for those that have passed midnight...

edit - some slight spoiler stats for those curious
Spoiler: show
- run time - 48:30
- only 2 songs with lyrics ('Crucible' and the closer 'Wish I Knew You' with Indigo De Souza)
- 8 other tracks have some vocalization
- 9 tracks are under a minute long and also fade in/out so they feel really short

I mainly listened in the background while working and just noted the vocals so I can't comment much on the quality. Looking forward to listening more intently later.

But is it "thrillingly eclectic"?!

Avey and Indigo have their own verses, it switches back and forth. Chorus is mainly Avey with Indigo singing something different underneath. It doesn't sound to me like there are any Panda or Deakin harmonies

only 6 tracks over 2 minutes long... and only 2 songs over 3 minutes. AC in drip feed mode

is the song with Indigo amazing?!

I'd be surprised, Bandcamp releases rarely (if ever) go live right at midnight. Usually late in the day of release for me

They really didn't have to go that hard on that closer, holy SHIT. It's kinda like one of those Deak remixes + some Down There thrown in there but wholy original. Dunno what else to compare it cuz it doesn't really sound like anything they've done before except for Summertime Clothes maybe?

Listened to the closer just. Not huge on it. First true dud of their career maybe

Ok, listening to the soundtrack in full I've gotta ask what was the reasoning in releasing it like this? Don't get me wrong, great soundscapes, but maybe they should've released it as a sort of suite of tracks. Kinda like what they did with New Psycho Actives. Some of these are waaaay too short to have ANY sort of impact outside of the film. The few tracks that are longer tho are taaasty, and very much their own thing. Really deranged, almost industrial sounding.

They actually use distorted guitars on one of the tracks, make of that what you will... mostly ambient tho.

Avey sounded so good on that last song.

Overall a bit better than crestone imo. Loved Deakin vocals throughout

Definitely disappointed with the lack of "full" songs but that was to be expected. Also agree with what's been said here, I don't feel like the sound bites are overly engaging on their own. The final song was a refreshing surprise although it has a challenging melody that I'm still trying to figure out if I like or not. It almost has a flaming lips quality to the instrumental. What I did get from listening to this thing from start to finish on headphones while stoned was that it definitely conveys a story arc. I haven't seen the film yet but I could totally picture the sequence of scenes/events through the sounds. Some of the beat-centric tracks are pretty cool and deaks chanting/moaning mixed with his dreamy piano is always soothing to the soul.

As an avid collector of all AC on vinyl... I think I'm good with this one remaining as a digital-only release.

Sounds primarily like a Josh and Dave project. Noah has vocals at least once. Struggling to hear where Brian is on here.

Much more of a typical score than Crestone in the sense of there being specific music beds. For that reason, I think I prefer Crestone's music.

Given that AC came to genesis (in part) by their experience of film scores (e.g., The Shining), I wonder if this release marks a moment of AC beginning to come home to themselves. The accomplished musician to film score composer trajectory is very much alive today (Trent Reznor and Alex Somers/Jónsi being those that immediately come to mind). I could imagine a world where the band releases proper records every 6 years from here on out and feeds other creative ventures (solo work, collaborations) and do film scores that 'cement' their sound.

The last track kinda reminded me of those Mickey Hart songs that Avey did guest vocals on. It's ok but probably not something I'll return to much.

This is exactly the comparison I was going to make yesterday but I didn't want to sour anyone's thoughts prior to listening. I don't hate it but don't have any desire to listen to it again

Lyrics are pretty hokey and parts of it feel teeny bopper. But I’m digging it - Avey plays around with the timing of the vocals in cool ways, and I love Indigo de Souza’s voice as a counter.

Let's remember this is a score for a film, not an album. To me, it sounds like if Animal Collective made a soundtrack to an A24 film. Nothing totally earth shattering but it's cool- it sounds like a film score made by AC.

That being said, the last song did not sit well upon first listen lol.

man that last track is bad. :( digging the rest of the score though. it isn't an album and shouldn't be consumed that way

mmm, ya, this is definitely a soundtrack. was hoping for a bit more meat, but i probably had too high of expectations when i heard the ODDSAC comparisons from some random fan.

the last track.... LOVE the verses, song starts out sooo strong... the song for the first 1:30 is pretty good. but the chorus is unlistenable to me, it totally derails and ruins the song for me. it's by far the worst chorus Avey has ever written, which is strange cuz he nails the verses (as does Indigo).

on par with Crestone, meaning... i won't be listening to this in isolation again.

Safe to say at this point that this isn't coming to Bandcamp? Just trying to decide where to drop my $12.

The percussive elements on this album are subverting military drum traditions in cool ways.

i really dig the percussion and deakins chanty/intense vocals throughout. i feel like he's really locked in on how to use some of those harsher timbres in his voice

also i don't think the wish i knew you chorus is as bad as everyone is saying lol, it's kinda fun

It's dogshit. I'll hear the rest of the soundtrack whenever I see the film. Don't see the point in listening to it separately

My wife’s review of the closer is “annoying”

Also love the military percussion stuff, gives those tracks a Runnin’ The Round Ball sound
Will wait to pass judgement until I see the movie, looks like I have another week to wait for that

Ok I’m glad I’m not the only one who hated the closer. Unbelievable flop of a song. Avey’s most limp, lifeless melody and vocal performance maybe ever

These lil nuggs are intriguing. Had to have felt good to visit another sonic landscape after hanging in Time Skiffs Land for the last coupla billion years. Excited to imagine these textures and tones pointing in the direction of the next AC thing. Or maybe it’s just an odd lil island.

That last song is bizarrely below par for them, feels like someone else wrote it. Everything else I like the sounds in many places but wouldn't listen to it separate from the film. As I say, it's not for me and I hope it leads to another income stream for them.

Really enjoying this. I listen to film scores quite often and this is pretty standard structurally. Especially when being unable to see the film currently, I'm enjoying this as one whole experience. Fragmented, often claustrophobic. It sounds like a lost soul struggling to be human through opression of otherworldly powers. Their heart often quietly soaring above confusion when everything is at it's most alien (phone call just before war paint).

I won't sit here and say y'all should know how film scores work these days or your disappointment in song length is invalid, I AM sitting here and making an arguement for what this album is (outside of the context of the film, of course), a legitimate experience beginning to end in it's right. Each song an expression of an incredibly visual moment, both for the film and on it's own, by a band most of us agree is quite good at creating visceral soundscapes. So please, turn out the lights and crawl into bed, or bundle up and go for a walk, smoke a joint, and give the score a chance.
And I was iffy on Wish I Knew You at first too, till the two vocal parts came together, won me over in the end.

Favs on first listen: shelter in Inez, birth certificate, Reveille Phase 1, BOTH shower Fantasy(s), flashlights, cover up, phone call, crucible, dissappear french, oohrah, sixteen with nobody

I've spoken for years on the beautiful emotions I STILL feel when ever I listen to the incredibly short track Peer Pressure by Jon Brion from Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.

Time is relative, beauty last Forever.

The Inspection Vinyl when?
