Wastered is one song (if you only count AC), makes perfect sense to me not to include it in such a list
Literally all "releases" were.encouraged by OP to be included including 7/10/12'' vinyl singles. At least one user utilized this excellently to highlight singles with STRONG b-sides and they should remain an examplar of excellence to all of us (wintercitywalks)
fuck it, this is pure gut instinct
1. sung tongs
2. spirit
3. person pitch
4. feels
5. hollinndagain
6. mpp

10. down there
u like old avey + panda vibes and their accepted masterworks as well, nothing that rocks the boat so your list smacks of utter honesty and sincerity and for that I award 13 12'' special edition waxes!

many have said that chudon is the greatest AC fan of all time simply because he rates Day w/ the Homies very high while not giving MPP a top 5 spot despite liking it a lot still and awarding FBK an even higher slot.
For that I award you the coveted EP-KING award

whoops, skipped some. ODDSAC so high with Ark just under it is wild and yet undeniably true and something that resonates deeply for all of us and registers as more true than our bullshit ass lies that we've been telling ourselves for years. Thank you for your honesty and I gladly award you 13 Green beans

Idk something like that. Most of these are just tied.
What even is the vibe of his top 5 specifically? Well, I'm not sure, but I know it's beautiful as all heck. I award you 69 Flesh Canoes and 1,000 Bees.
1. Sung Tongs - Life changer for a 19 year old me, cured my depression in a beautiful way and showed me that creativity is boundless if you follow your nose)
2. Person Pitch - Life changer for a 21 year old me. Felt like this CD never left my walkman and I was listening to psychedelic gospel mantras that uplifted me. And how pure were those early shows with him and his 2 samplers and mic singing his heart out :’-)) Pretty awesome that his setup is still super minimal.
3. Feels - Got into this around the same time as Sung Tongs. Fall, leaves changing, light rain vibe but also so joyful, hazy and energetic. Arrrmmss and Shoulldderrrs…Get that! Woo! Woo!… The Bees The Bees The Bees errwerrwerrewurrwuurr… and i’m gonna chase youuuu. Avey is a unique and beautiful human.
4. Ark - Recently got into this one in a big way this past year, very beautiful music that unfolds and builds in sprawling ways that make me feel like I’m seeing people die and gardens grow and the earth continue its cycle. This album can make being stuck in afternoon traffic a profound experience.
5. Spirit They’re Gone, Spirit They’ve Vanished - Unique song writing with insane frantic drumming. Love Avey’s voice on these songs. Interesting to think of this one and Sung Tongs back to back being the two AC albums with only Avey/Panda contribution.
6. Prospect Hummer - Vashti’s return to singing after decades of not releasing anything. Her voice is soothing and wise but also has moments of fragility like we’re secretly listening to her singing next door. “Its You” sounds like an angel taking your soul to the next life. Those delayed guitar swells and long words sung out are sublime.
7. Eucalyptus - Such a great collage of sounds. Love how Season High it starts off with that lo fi bedroom recording of Avey strumming and singing and turns into this epic mosaic of a song with what sounds like Indian Santoor strings being plucked. The drone piece DR aw one for J is super transportive. I don’t know where I am when I hear it, but love coming back to that place.
8. Strawberry Jam - Felt like a lot simpler of an album coming off of Feels. It could be that the vocals got higher in the mix and less effected. But the sonic palettes are amazing on this one. They really nailed that translucent, shiny feeling which seems opposite to what Feels was. Cuckoo will be the highlight of this one for me. The noisy chorus that sounds like a truck full of rocks fell down a hill with choir falsetto singing and frog ribbits is a vivid psych assault on your senses, made all the more significant as it leads back into that meditative Franz Liszt piano loop. It sounds just like what it feels like to contain intense emotions, expel them, and feel the calm after the storm. “Little kids slide down steel park slides” is one my favorite Avey lyrics.
For Reverend Green is a blast of colors. A punk friend of mine who doesn’t listen to AC was super impressed at how Avey could scream and return to singing so quickly. The beat boxing “chuckuchucka” after the cymbal crash in the chorus is a sweet detail.
Fireworks is pure joy. Super cool to hear Avey turn that Tuvin throat singing style into a super catchy pop hook. Kinda makes me think of that cheesy (low key dope) 90s song Enigma - Return to Innocence, in that the stand out part of the song is singing with no lyrics.
I often come back to this one to focus on particular songs and not the whole album, but its a sweet follow up to Feels. I remember reading Danny Perez say something about how Avey/Panda could’ve written 100 sung tong style songs, which is a reminder of the artistic integrity and hard work it takes to try new things and not just do what you’re good at.
9. Water Curses + Safer (I’m cheating, but who cares its SJ era songs that got recorded later so I feel fine lumping them together). The screams in the ambient section of Street Flash are classic AC juxtaposition. Mind is confused, what’s going on, why does this sound like it makes sense together? Is that a lady crying or laughing hysterically?
10. Oddsac - A much needed return to AC weirdness that MPP detracted from. Kindle Song, Tantrum Barb, Screens, What Happened, so many gems interspersed with excellent sonic collages. Avey and Geo’s horror fanboy sides come out well on this one.
The amount of great music they put out outside of my top 10 and the fact they still put out great tunes blows my mind. Seeing them play Defeat in Point Reyes a few years back was an out of body experience I’ll never forget. Its been great being a fan for 16 years running. It can be difficult to share this joy with other friends, but the ones that get it always pass the vibe check. And I still enthusiastically try to spread the word to music fans I encounter.

feelin like a boomer....... is there no easy topster-like site for making album tier charts? i found other ones but you have to upload all the images and i'm not doing that. would be fun to make a tier chart for all AC/solo releases
whenever i see homies on lists in this thread i automatically assume it’s vinyl homies…i never paid much attention in the homies thread cause it’s never been a release i’ve come back to often, but does anybody actually prefer the shortened digital versions that don’t pack a punch? i’ve seen improved thrown around for other songs/releases, but i feel like this one suffers the most.

i listen to digital more i think. it's fine! i should give the vinyl a try for old time's sake but i only remember being thrown off by that bird sound. i loved the desert daze boot, i liked the vinyl, i like the digital, and i love the motorcycle versions (every song should have motorcycles)
e: i probably find the early flatter mixes of person pitch, tomboy, + homies "inferior" to the later product (even though circumstances are different around all of them). i'm a big believer in the purity of original vision w/r/t samples, track sequencing, and some sort of vague "energy" though. if digital homies had switched the order around i would have hated it

i wouldn't say i prefer the digital version it seems like an exaggeration to say they don't pack a punch. i listen to it in the car all the time and it sounds incredible

fair point.. i should say they don’t have that sassy overblown quality that really makes me love the vinyl mix
