t1. pp (light)
t1. tomboy (darkness)
3. yp (don’t listen ever, but it’s so beautiful & unique)
4. pbvsgr (has some of his best & worst moments)
5. buoys (vox on title track pulled ranking down)
6. homies (shepard tone is gd genius, rest is good)

pp and tomboy are the perfect foils to each other, i couldn’t decide. also, my wife walked down the aisle to lonely wanderer and i was super into it when we started dating, so pbvsgr holds a special place for me

homies is transcendent

1. Tomboy
2. PP
3. Greaper
4. YP
5. Buoys
6. Homies
7. ST

I honestly like the Tomboy album versions better than the single mixes. Soz Stan. Maybe it's because I heard the album first, but I've tried listening to the singles so many times but I just keep going back to the album. I do wish the drums were a bit louder in Surfer's Hymn but that's about it.

1. Homies - Hard for me to compare vinyl and digital because I've never listened to vinyl on headphones and very rarely listen to digital on speakers. As a whole, just unbeatable for me.

2. Greaper - Most consistent LP for me. Big dud moments and a kinda weak opener and closer imo but the production is bliss.

3. PP - Obviously an all-time classic but I literally never come back to GG/Carrots or Search for Delicious, which makes it just a really REALLY good EP.

4. Mr Noah - Some of the best songs of the era. Not huge on This Side of Paradise but otherwise would be three of the top five songs on PBVGR.

5. Tomboy - Opening six songs are god tier and some of the best AC-sphere material ever, period. Closing five songs (except Scheherazade, depending on my mood) are nothing by comparison.

6. YP - Most consistent release but find it hard to listen to individual songs, so come back to it a lot less often and if I want that vibe, I'll usually go for Campfire Songs.

7. Buoys - Respect the cohesion, enjoy the production, but the jams are weak as fuck for the most part. Saw him preview this material live in April '18 and it was astonishingly good. Kinda ruined it on the record.

8. Crosswords - Butchered the Preakness and Jabberwocky. Unforgivable.

9. S/T - Can't get my head around it.

1. Tomboy
Remains both emotionally complex and sonically distinct in PB's discography. Can be difficult but a very rewarding listen. An album I am always drawn back to when I need it in life.

2. A Day With The Homies
It's this high basically on the strength of Flight and Part of the Math, two of the best things he's ever written. This EP works because it's concise in concept and it has such a great attitude.

3. Buoys
I'll admit to loving this one so much from happy association. Probably because it was the year before covid? Just seem to feel sunny memories when I think about this album. The songwriting is fantastic. I love how it was produced (with the autotune and the guitar and everything) too, but I won't argue with you if you just don't like how it sounds.

4. Person Pitch
An incredible album, which cannot be understated. Probably a miracle that anything can sound like this. Many career best moments on here. It has that really flowy energy of a DJ set, and at the same time it's this super vivid soundscape. It almost doesn't even sound like music sometimes - it's very transportive. I love it for that quality --- it's only middling on my list because I feel his actual songwriting got so much more interesting after this release.

5. PBVSGR
There are plenty of great songs in this era, but I think it just fails as an album for some reason. Which is really strange because in AC world it's basically just a given that an album is going to be cohesive. Guess one has to miss eventually, maybe just too many songs. Sadly many of the songs are pretty lacking dynamically, and to me the synth-heavy production doesn't express Panda Bear's usual character.

6. Young Prayer
An infrequent listen because of the frightening vulnerability on display. I support the no song titles choice but it does makes the songs harder to remember and talk about. But that does in turn make for a more in-the-moment listening experience.

7. S/T
Fun as a curiosity, a fair amount of effective moments but not something I revisit very often.

4 - PBvsGR

5 - Panda Bear
6 - Young Prayer

tomboy and person pitch is so hard to choose between so i give it to tomboy because it's longer. i'm surprised so many people prefer young prayer to s/t. happy to see the buoys love, people weren't fair to it when it came out.
