Avey remixed Sham’s “Self Portrait in White.” It’s good.

The very first time I heard them play Defeat I gotta admit I thought they were playing I'm Your Eagle Kisser
then I thought it was Graze
even yelled out to the crowd, "GRACE... !!"

In your opinion at this point how long we have to wait to a new Animal collective's album? It is possible that it will be the longest pause in their History?

I’d like to think that they are all on the page of “make up for lost time” - with how long the last era of the band went on for. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long - get a solo album out of them all then back on the road as a band playing some new stuff in 2027??

That my was my initial thought too - but just knowing Domino’s release pacing, I feel like they won’t all have released their solo records and toured behind them by 2026. Which is probably what they’ll want to do before the AC thing gets going again

its either the longest pause ever or something in 2026

as a deerhunter fan my biggest fear with AC is a quiet fade away into nothingness but no reason to think that's ever going to happen

I think so too.
2025 - SG, Panda world tour, maybe an Avey release
2026 - Deakin solo album?, AC tours again
2027 - AC LP

Very curious to see what direction they head next.
Started weird/noisy. Slowly got more rock and pop oriented. Did the transition to more electronic stuff. Did the 'return to roots' type thing. What's next?

Are you considering TS/IIN? a return to roots?

Xiu Xiu releases a new record every year on Polyvinyl. XL put-out two records by The Smile this year. If I may be so bold, I don’t think Domino delivers to our boys the service they deserve. Our boys are prolific. They need flexibility. They need creativity. They need, and deserve, to be accommodated. Domino is slow, staid, boring. Next!

My dream will be having animal collective together in a room writing music together.. I know it's quite impossible by the way. My favorites songs are the ones where you can't exactly say if it is has been writing by Dave or Noah. I like when this two different vibes melt together

i don't know where to post about this, but i was looking through the listenings under "Noah Lennox" on The MLC earlier and i found a listing that i have been unable to find anywhere online other than this database.

anyone know anything about this?
it says the length is 9 minutes and 27 seconds.
this could be a release i'm just unaware of, i'm completely open to that possibility, but i just wanted to ask about it here. thankx!

fwiw Only two weeks spanned the announcement for The Inspection soundtrack and its release. So I'm still kinda hoping we'll get this score in 2024.

I'm the only one that noticed that after MPP Noah just write very tiny simple pop song for AnCo. Anybody ever wander about the reason behind that? The only exception is New Town Burnout which is, in fact, glorious

Yeah, his cHz songs are both very heady. And even in the pw era, the poppiest songs sound like they were penned by avey- Floridada, Golden Gal, Kinda Bonkers. All those songs are ac at their most accessible.

Ok so, let's say: why does he stopped to do more long dilated suite?

I so agree. The whole Lennon/McCartney comparison thing is tired and pointless at this point, but I've always disliked considering Noah to be the Paul of the band because really these days Avey is the one pumping out reliable pop jams

Yeh, not sure about this! I think there are heaps of examples of relatively complex songs Panda has contributed since MPP.
NTB, Rosie Oh, Car Keys, On Delay, Genies Open

wrote:

so really the point being made is his songs have gotten more compact, not necessarily simpler.
he lets them sprawl in live performances but i would agree he's drifted away from songs that sound expansive and exploratory on record. i think there are exceptions beyond ntb, e.g. the aforementioned genies open. i don't entirely know the background of how genies was written, though i know it came about from the sung tongs tour and avey helped flesh it out from there. idk to what degree it involved jamming together vs pieces written separately. but the fact that it originated in a live setting is probably a key factor in having a more unpredictable structure. i think most panda songs these days are composed mostly or entirely in isolation and don't leave much room for expanding the structure. i could be wrong.

On delay is Avey (plus 2/3 of genies open)

New Town Burnout was a Tomboy outtake so who knows how early it was even written
I've also had the takeaway that his contributions to AC records have been more compact and direct than Avey's, but I don't really think that's much different than how things were before MPP. Derek had a pretty simple structure, and Chores and Daily Routine kinda did as well if you chop off the extended outros

^ yeah that's a point i forgot to mention. i think it's easy to misremember what the individual members' contributions actually sounded like on older records compared to newer ones. the band's mainline albums as a whole have probably trended toward more compact songs much more than panda himself has. plus the way they use their instruments and vocals have changed and gotten more direct and melodic.

Great piece, the three piano parts are so engaging to listen to. And the second half is beautiful as well.
