I think it does,but everyone is different. I'm trying to abstain but sometimes it's hard. Sometimes the "journey" is more fun than the "destination." So nothing against those that cave. I listened to Broke Zodiac the other day which is the only boot I've played in the past few months. just trying to not overplay the live versions because I feel like these songs have been simmering so long that my expectations are sky high and the studio versions may not deliver. But in the end it really doesn't matter much in overall enjoyment

listening to almost every boot from the pre-CHz shows kinda ruined that album for me so I mostly abstained this time around (saw them once on the last tour which was the first time I had heard most of these songs). that was the opposite experience of being a big MPP song boot listener and then the album blew pretty much all the boots out of the water.

I've listened to the Music Box Defeat since then, and while I think I kinda prefer it to the final product (which I also love), I almost think of them as different songs.

the album is very good so I don't think anyone needs to worry about anything.

this board is like, way too close to Defeat and probably a sticking point and main discourse of the average listener of this album is gonna be "there is an over indulgent 22 minute song smack dab in the middle" (that the average listener will either end up skipping or flip to side D) ... and they're probably not wrong.

Defeat could probably stand to loseat least 5 minutes, if not more. I mean, I like Defeat, but I think the album could benefit from it NOT being on the album. a brisk & breezy lil 42 minute LP instead of a 64 minute doozy.

I'll look forward to seeing how the album turns out but I agree. I still think these songs would have been better structured and presented as two EPs. I also understand that would be commercially and promotionally worthless.
