im pretty sure i read somewhere the geo said they were dropping all the sampling and going back to their pre-mpp sound??? not sure if that quote checks out but it sounds plausible

There are some interviews from a few years ago, when the band were doing press for C Hz, where at least one of the band members said they were going back to an "acoustic" sound (or something similar, I'm paraphrasing). Basically what it boiled down to was this: they barely used any real instruments on MPP, but for C Hz they were going to use live drums, guitar, keys, etc. But of course they still incorporated plenty of samples and electronic sounds on C Hz.

Is that what you're thinking of? Just an idea, I could be totally off

Hoping the next album has at least one "spacey" song, like Search for Delicious or Infant Dressing Table

im certain it was at the bottom of the stereogum article about panda saying they were going into the studio, maybe it got removed? idk. either way im hoping for a feels-esque sound if they are returning to any previous sound

I'd like dat too^

the most recent thing that was spacey like that was bleed, and even that still had a solid structure to it if ya know what I mean.

panda provided the spacey on greaper and just from personal experience people seem to not be able to handle the tropic of cancer/lonely wanderer stretch and it bums me out.

yeah lonely is pretty spacey.

I hope geo upgrades to a full keyboard rig as well as that lil bass synth he's been using. Would love to hear them jam on the jailhouse vibe live with geo playin those watery keyboards.

hmm lonely wanderer is by far my favorite song on PBMGR. I would love more of that on the next AC album, again, I mean spacey-wise. I would also love some songs to be as perfect as WWIWS. that song is so well crafted. it's (one of) my fave AC song atm. after all these years it still grows.

i had a dream last night that was clearly scored by AnCo but it the music wasn't anything like any music I've ever heard before - it was like this bizarre mixture of Spirit and New Psycho Actives - like that live version of chocolate girl, but flying.

In fairness, as pretty as Tropic and Lonely Wanderer are, they're not spacey in the sense of much previous AC. They fit Greaper very well because they're so tightly structured. They're as chunky as everything else on the album. Even MPP is more loose.

I love these two releases because there are sections I don't much like yet, they're not so keen to reveal themselves. No offence to the Greaper but I've barely listened to it for three months now.

Just had this thought...
They've been doing a lot of dj sets lately..
What if their next album is super sample heavy!
I think that'd be really cool.

As a side...
I just made the magnum opus of taco salad burritos!

I hope I like the next album, don't really care about anything other than that.

Hope this doesn't happen though:

why not? just because music is made with laptops doesn't mean it sucks. Also they'd still be able to improvise - performing live with ableton doesn't necessarily mean entirely prerecorded songs.

I don't think it's a likely scenario, but it would be refreshing to hear the dudes play music in a way they never have before

Yeah the music could be great, I just think it might affect the live shows a fair amount.

i wonder with images like that if part of the theme of their next album will be reflections. whether it be on the past or introspective thoughts, reflection might be a cool concept.

This is a real interesting statement^. Also i've been wondering if the whole thematic undertones of death/starting anew in pbvsgr might run its course into AC.

i think its gonna be somewhat pc driven, dj-set ish songs about personal stuff/ kind of confessional in a way which will be different/weird. some harmonies but in a weird way.... its gonna be like mpp's colder more introspective sister. there's gonna be a stupidly epic call-and-response avey/noah song that's almost future-garagey. gonna be weird vocal samples maybe

Not only this, which I think you guys hit on perfectly, but i wonder if Deakin will write more songs or have a bigger influence, especially since he hasn't released his solo album for whatever personal reasons.

They're in New Orleans in this photo. Josh has been living here for almost a month now. I saw Avey at that Music box performance that was conducted by Arto in which Josh performed. I've had this hunch that the new album is gonna be recorded in New Orleans. It makes sense since they've been hanging out here and all. Also Josh did a dj set for my friends party, in which is collabed with Win Butler. It was pretty cool. Anyway, it would be pretty awesome if they are to record their album here and draw from the music influence of new orleans.

ahhh i really hope they do this. that'd be sweet if they draw a lot of influence from new orleans and all of the surrounding culture. I'm just imagining a very hazy/sunny AC record tinged with voodoo/caribbean influences, let alone all of the heavy musical influences found in new orleans.

this is exciting! (that is, if this is what they are actually doing)

It's an immense feeling, knowing that they're creating right now. Brings me a sort of ineffable joy.

I don't know how I'm gonna feel when that's not happening anymore.

Also, I have this sort of weird feeling that Avey won't be singing so much on the new stuff. He could be burnt out a little, I dunno. Imagine they did a techno album

a majority panda/deak vocal album would be rad

But Avey is, without question, the "singer" in the band. His voice is AC. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Although I would love to hear more from both Panda and Deaks on the next one.

Also, where is Geo? Did they really not bring that other guy??? :smugdog:

I know I know. I'm just speculating wildly. Think that there's a possibility he's a little burnt out. And I'm sure he's making another Slasher Flicks album. He could easily hand the reigns over. Deakin with a couple of guest spots, Panda too, and maybe some more ambient shit. Who knows?

At the same time, Panda could be totally worn out after Greaper.

Imagine some day an entirely instrumental Deak/Geo AnCo EP
