It is crazy to see soul capturer kick off the album and possibly be the single since I remember Avey a while back basically saying it probably wouldn't appear on anything. It seems the song really grew on them as something important. Happy about this considering when I saw them at pitchfork the song really stood out to me. Super excited for this album!

The Gnome/Magician kinda looks like the Zig Zag man to me. Where the "Isn't it Now" is his mustache. Maybe its the orange paper that's making me see that.
Nice cover, fits the vibe of Time Skiffs to make these two albums feel like siblings. I bet like 7s and Skiffs, the cover art will look really great on an LP. I was kinda whatever about 7's art, but when I got the record it looked way more personal and cool. Something about seeing the detail of the scissor cuts and paper tears magnified made it work for me in a new way.

it's interesting that you point out that capitalization, i def remember noticing before deakin writing 'stride rite' in all lowercase like that in contrast to others
wait a minute, are all the avey songs capitalized and non-avey songs lowercase? lol

Isn't Genie's mostly an Avey song? I thought only the first 1/3rd of the song was Panda and the rest was Avey

I bet a zillion bucks Domino was like, “Please for the love of god can we finally do a title on the cover?” and this was Dave’s sweet lil runaround.

I haven’t been this hyped for a release by the guys since 06-11. I saw them play sea of light 5 years ago yesterday and have been anxiously awaiting any sort of formal release since then. There is so much good stuff here.

don’t think anyone came close to predicting this tracklist, classic AC. Idk i’m going to really ride out the official track listing and give it many chances but if i dislike it enough i might just use my own

yeah who's to say the 'defeat' on the album is even the same song as the 'defeat' that was released this summer? could be an entirely different song with the same name. yet another reason why all signs point to defeat not being on this album

Listened to boots of the first 4 tracks in order earlier, feel like they fucking nailed it. Goddamn it this is going to be such a good album.

obnoxious brag but I'm kind of proud of myself of not listening to any boots or recordings for months and months. I've actually been light on AC all of '23 save for Reset, 7s and a couple nice TS re-visits recently
the dub remix of Reset might also help not abuse, say, Soul capturer when/if it drops in 40 hours too much.

hey dio, welcome back! haven't seen you around much.
yeh, I've also been very conservative with defeat and haven't listened to a boot in probably 3 months. holding on tight. not sure i'll make it.
re: the tracklist - i love the fact that they've gone with a bit of a frequent theme of having a big one/two centerpiece pairing (think Essplode/Meet Light Child, NTB/Monkey Riches or the GOAT Fireworks/Rev Green) and have TURNED IT UP TO ABSOLUTELY FUCKING EPIC PROPORTIONS WITH MAGICIANS AND DEFEAT BACK TO BACK

“The Purple Bottle” is technically a full sentence.

hey foxtrot! and a full sentence requires a predicate. I think it's clubs in like a weird medieval ogre weapon way or something. but also golf somehow
Defeat as not the closer is actually great. Not ending on figurative defeated-ness is more them honestly. Not like King's is uplifting, but its more open ended and kinda ambiguous. And then side D is kind of a varied comedown from this hugely epic uphill climb with Genies/Magicians/Defeat. heroe's journey is too obvious but it fits and Gem is magical flight, stride is reconciliation and clubs is probably return home, kings is synthesis (defeat is apotheosis)

Close source (me), no Animal Collective in the soundtrack so far. Noah was just an "influencer" early playtester. It's got Built to Spill though, fwiw.
Answering your question, it'd have to be Atiba Song

agreed on this. especially with fully analogue recording, transitions seem pretty unlikely to me. transitions are possible later in production though so I guess I won't rule it out

Genuine question. What’s the point of listening to boots? I get hearing a song 1 time during a performance, but wouldn’t listening to all boots in order of the track list ruin the final album experience?

Defeat on side C followed by four tracks on side D really makes this sequencing analogous with Sung Tongs. Especially with "lowkey" closers Whaddit I Done and Kings
Can't brag because I never made a full tracklist prediction but Defeat always felt right on side C to me. Sung Tongs was possibly the last time the songs going onto an album had such variety. there's fewer songs this time and they're longer, but the equivalency feels strong to me.
plus as others have noted genie's came from the ST tour! very harmonious. (genie's is totally an avey song btw)

The cover art for IIN also recalls ST for me. The warm reds etc but also the kind of ancient feeling. something very 19th century Halloween about the IIN cover.
But yeh, I see a lot similarities between ST and this.

To me, not really. It's one of the best parts of being a fan. They've done far different versions of the material live before it's been recorded, and that's been the case for every album besides Painting With if I'm not mistaken. Hope you find something great in that, my friend!
