Checking out the Magnétophone album that PK recommended. The noises on this track remind me a lot of the crackling and popping at the end of Who Could Win a Rabbit. (sorry for the Spotify link, it's not on youtube)

Do you have any good Brazilian recommendations? I have gotten into Os Mutantes' first album recently, as well as Madlib's Brazil medicine show (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madlib_Med ... _to_Brazil) and was wondering if you have any recommendations (I have taken a liking to 60's/70's stuff)

I'm no Pkx, but I'd be remiss if I didn't recommend Jorge Ben's "Forca Bruta" and "Africa Brasil"

also check out Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Tom Ze, Gal Costa...in fact, just start with Luaka Bop's comp Tropicalia and go from there.

Thanks for the recommendations all

edit: just getting through the first post of recommendations and checking them out - I dig the stuff, it's groovy. Do you guys listen to any psychedelic and/or funk from Brazil around that time period (60s/70s)?

That sounds great. Any links via PM would be really appreciated, but not expected/anticipated. I just appreciate the recommendations

Garage, Day after Day, or whatever it's called, seriously reminds me of something else. When he does that high pitched singing on "want me to-oooooooo".

But what?? Maybe it's always you-oooooooo?

I think there's something else.

i think i caught shit for this before, but the original version from the atp boot always reminded me of steady b loop dub by sublime, via robbin the hood.. i don't think that's what you're talking about, but i thought i would take the opportunity to get made fun of again for liking sublime..

I don't think it's that far fetched considering both artists take a lot of influence from dub.

On a very similar note I've always contested that some of Animal Collective's/Panda Bear's music reminds me a bit of 311 (especially in the case of Brothersport), though that opinion is probably even more worthy of derision around these parts.

The Pitchfork review of Slasher Flicks compared them to Jane's Addiction. I hadn't ever thought of it before but I'd say it has some grounds.

When you think about it, the vast majority of popular music is more similar than not

This is probably not it, but I just heard this Mas Ysa song for the first time and found myself humming Day After Day/Garage afterwards because the chords sound similar. But the singing is not really similar.

Oh okay. So a 'Amuse bouche' is a smaller 'hors d'oeuvre'. I didn't explicitly say, you were saying the EP was about to be announced, but I think you correctly assumed I was assuming that's what you meant. And now I'm thinking you're being all, "nah dude it's just a single coming soon".

When I looked up Amuse Bouche, which literally means,"mouth amuser" in French, the first thing I saw was wiki saying, "An amuse-bouche is a single, bite-sized hors d’œuvre."

Pretty sure "Au papillot" is referring to a cooking technique involving baking food in prachement. So this stuff is cooking and sb says he can smell it.

Dear SB, if you're reading this, Tuesday is my birthday, and even just an announcement of this "amuse bouche" would make it extra-special. If you have any control over that. Please and thank you :)

You all are going to hate me for saying this (and I hate my mind for thinking this)...
but... for some reason, sometimes when "Garage" gets stuck in my head... it morphs into the chorus of this song >_<

ugh (still love "Garage" tho!)

would be cool if this meant something like a tour-only release for the upcoming shows, since at the shows we will party!
