pretty sure good girl is just the first part that's super clubby and chaotic.

Same here but for me its the whole thing. Both parts of carrots 1 and 2 are of course really mesmerizing, but good girl is just as hypnotic, only in the complete opposite way. That weird croak thing he does at the end of the chorus is insane (Sounds really cool in the 2007 ma fama session)

Imagining an alternate reality where the band didn't blow up until Painting With. Playing arena shows, kids moshing to Floridada, crowd perfectly nailing the vocal trade offs, band headlining Warped Tour
The thought tickles me

So I started getting into AC around the time I was in college and I got to meet them like 2 or 3 times. Lately I’ve been watching concert footage and I’m slowly starting to realize, like a bang to the head, that they’ve been in their own element, doing whatever tf they want for the past 23~ ish years, and I’m just sitting here hoping I can do something important with my life some day. Man.. I don’t even know where I’m going with this post, I just wanted to get that thought out there… I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else can relate or has some advice on how to get on their level.

I be thinking ab this a lot. I don't want to sound dramatic but AC really has changed my life profoundly. I've always loved making music but after hearing what they do I did a complete 180 as an artist, that's how I realized that what I really want out of my work is to make something unlike anything I've already heard. They also helped me realize that this really is the only thing I want to do with my life, to pursue a life built around anything else would be an act of violence against myself. College (the song not actual college lol), as corny as this is, helped me realize that it's pretty stupid to make major life decisions based on what people think you should be doing.
I'm not sure whether or not you were talking specifically about art or just doing something important with your life in general, but either way what I've learned from them is that you really need to listen to yourself and trust your inclinations above all else. If you are doing something different and interesting and you have a distinct voice, whether that be with art or anything else you do, eventually someone will notice. I'm sure that sounds naive but that's the approach I've been taking. If I think about my favorite artists and biggest influences, for example people like AC,Drain Gang, Black Kray, Bjork, etc, I think they all gained their success through being authentic and trying new things. You just gotta keep giving yourself a lot of time to really focus on whatever it is you want to do. Get super in touch with yourself and try new stuff and the more you do the more you will realize there are certain things you gravitate towards or that are super resonant with you and then a foundation starts to build naturally from those things.
Sometimes there is also a perfect storm, whether "good" or "bad" or both, of things that push you in a certain direction. I am reluctant to mention this because I don't want to keep talking about myself like some pompous ass, but I will because maybe this will have some value to you, idk. Anyway, last year around the time the ideas I had about music were changing, some really devastating shit happened, at a time when things were already pretty shit, long story short I kinda went insane and I was in the lowest point in my life yada yada yada. A year later, though I don't remember much of this past year, nor do I ever want to, I had finally finished the foundation for an album I had been working on. I just kept writing all these songs that were very much a result of that time, I don't remember the process for most of them but they are deeply resonant with me, which is kinda the whole point of making music for me. It was just kinda the result of everything going on in my life, as well as trying a bunch of new stuff with my process. If you want the same sort of example but in the opposite direction, look at Feels. In interviews about the album, when asked about how it came to be, they mostly reference the fact that everyone in the band was in love, as well as some of them becoming parents and stuff. And with the lyrics as well as the age they were at when they made it, the whole thing feels very tied to the idea of becoming an adult. Transitioning from early adulthood into real life, getting married, having kids, etc.
I don't know if that made any sense or if I explained it very well or if it answered your question, but what I'm tryna say is just have trust in yourself and where your life is taking you and whatever process you're involved with. A lot of that also has to do with my spirituality, just having a really strong sense of faith in things that have or will happen to me. Also pay close attention to aspects of yourself and your identity. For me, being trans underscores everything I do and how I feel and interact with my world, especially the art I make. Think about what you know about yourself and what's important to you and you'll have a very steady foundation in doing whatever it is that you want to do. Hopefully that's helpful in some way I hope it doesn't come off as me rambling ab myself, just wanted to share my experience with the sentiment you expressed

Well said. Discovered AnCo sometime before COVID when I was listening to a whole bunch of stuff to broaden my music taste a bit. Gave MPP a listen, only liked Bluish, and stopped caring about them. Now they're my favorite band of all time and MPP is one of my favorite albums ever. They've completely redefined my entire outlook on life, and, like you, I reasoned that there was nothing I could do with my life BUT pursue music.
In response to the post that this post was responding to, don't worry about it. Everyone goes through life differently, and there's no such thing as "figuring it out". There's no time limit to any of this stuff, just take it easy and keep going and it'll all fall into place.

Does anybody know what those noises are in the back of Sweepers Grin? I realized that’s probably why it’s one of my favorite tracks, it sounds like it could be a bunch of sounds Aveys making or some type of string instrument, it’s so interesting

Reminds me of that red bull interview where they mentioned that after mpp came out pizza hut had wanted them in a commercial. they said no but i thought the concept was so fucking funny that i tried making my own version of an anco pizza hut ad and it ended up feeling really forced and not very funny. still, imagine if it had happened.... that's my make-a-wish lol

lmao I'd watch it
Dreamt last night that I discovered written upside down on the back of a record releases pamphlet that a new AC record drops on 6/16/24. The album was woody and dark, similar to the Slasher Flicks cover, slightly understated, and had a title that had a word start with the letter M (or that included the word Purple?). I went on CA to post about it but Stan had beat me to the punch but he titled the thread something stupid, which annoyed me.

Don't know if the Bonefish guys lurk still or not. They didn't push MPP release ahead. Vinyl preorders were scheduled for Jan 6 delivery and download codes were live on arrival. Wide release was still on January 20th
