yo jfw7 were those already in the same key? if so that is just egregious that they wouldn't even change the key lol

i made it a long time ago and i don't remember if they were in the same key but they probably weren't. the phrasing and structure aren't identical either so bros is kinda chopped up to match. i agree that it sounds awesome

that custom kings song is pretty epic... u can hear the guy actively trying to lift the melody while not replicating it entirely. if it wasnt actually explicitly cribbed from Bros thatd be kind of amazing tho... could happen.. maybe he heard bros in his dreams

dude, it's clearly cribbed from bros. you can't have that many melodic lines in common and not be ripping it!!

ya but like i guess im saying it could be unconscious? maybe the dude overheard it once (tho where does one randomly over-hear person pitch...) and it burrowed its way into his subconscious. but no ya i guess it seems pretty clear... not trying to defend them or anything, just wondering if there is any chance it was a mistake..

if yr trying to sell a song to Sears or something tho, thats not a bad strategy... mining lesser-known alt bands for earworms and watering them the fuck down and making them n2 norm-core ad jingle type songs... just imagine if that band found an old Ariel Pink record..

And... Confess:
How many of you just held your own clapping contest to see a) if we could beat them and b) how ridiculous it feels.

I am betting I am not alone.

Ok, I may be alone but I can live with that.

I get what ur saying Diomedes, it kinda reminds me of how James Murphy said that Drunk Girls wasnt trying to rip off White Light/White Heat and he just subconsciously copied the hook. That's not as clear of a ripoff obviously and prob forgiveable, whereas Sunday is maybe taking it a bit too far

also there's a 5 year old comment on the youtube video that quotes the lead singer of the band as saying the copying was subconscious/unintentional. Google doesn't bring up anything to confirm the quote tho

he also aped the guitar line from "heroes" for "all i want." but those murphy songs were distinct enough, i think

Some artists can get away with "ripping off" music. There's a fine line between homage and parody.

It's also a timing issue. If we're talking about the examples presented... James Murphy surely grew up with those Bowie records and they are a part of his musical identity. The Bros rip off track happened... 2 or 3 years after Person Pitch was released? Which makes it hard to defend.

Personally, if a song is great then I don't mind "stealing" as long as it is tasteful.

“We’ve been around longer than most of my favourite bands,” observes Geologist. “In a depressing way, I think, we’ve been around a fucking long time, how come you’re not sick of us? They might be? I don’t feel like we’re a band people grow old with,” he claims. “It feels like we’re reloading a new generation. Every time a young kid finds us, and they only know our last two records.”

Lol, Geologist woke up on the wrong side of the bed it seems.

I'm listening to Fireworks on repeat now and I get why the magic of current AC music is gone for me. It's so intrinsically linked to that moment in time when I listened to that particular song or album that makes the magic. Fireworks and Strawberry Jam hits me hard because of where I was in life when I first heard it. And I feel that it is also largely tied to where the band was in their lives. Talking about Strawberry Jam-era in particular (but I suppose could be traced back to pre-SJ), each member of the band were younger, brasher and more care free. Now they have (more) mouths to feed and have long-term partners which colours the way they channel their feelings through their music. SJ is heart wrenching and there's a yearning in every syllable. Painting With in contrast is the sound of a band rocking out to the groove they've carved out for themselves over the course of more than a decade. It's confident and steady. Not quite the implosive, impulsive nervy band they once were, in my eyes. It's an album of good songs but they don't touch me the way SJ did.

But man, nothing, NOTHING will ever top listening to AC during my college years. Those were the best fucking time in my life and I have to say AC were a huge part in making it that. I listened to them every fucking day I'm sure. Before I go to bed, on my way to class, on the train back home. And it was as if the events in my life were moving beat by beat with the music. That's what makes it magical. And now, fast forward almost a decade and it's making me feel so crushed to think those days are behind me.

Sorry if the magic/no magic debate is over-used. I haven't been following this thread since a very long time. Things are happening in my life that's making me look back and just felt compelled to jump in and write this out.

But Fireworks man.

edit: HOLY SHIT THAT WORD FILTER
