for the next AC album they should revisit the Campfire Songs/early Feels/Prospect Hummer power trio of Avey/Panda/Deakin while Geo pursues sportswriting full time

is it time for a deakin and geologist animal collective album?
my heart says yes
A small, hopeful part of me says they may split up into different combinations of twos and threes for little EPs and singles and what not over the next few years.

i don't think geo would have started making (much) music without animal collective and i don't think he is especially likely to start making (much) music without animal collective

It's true
Which is why I say a deak and geo album would be so great

Stretching Songs For Spring is such a tease though. Geo's solo album would be amazing!

Watch this shit I filmed in 2011. Judging by the views, no one gives a shit and it is hitting me so hard nearly five years later. I love circumstances.

jane is so dank my man. that and deerhunter's cryptograms are like my two go to study time jams. i've written countless papers with those 2 albums playing
i love this interview and hearing about deakin's process through all this. however, pertaining to the topic of "general animal collctive" thread, there's some interesting parts about the transition from CHz to deakin not being a part of the PW cycle.
In November of 2014, Dave [Portner] and Brian [Weitz] were in Baltimore. We had a talk, and that was what led to the decision to not be part of what ended up becoming Painting With. It was a very friendly discussion, but it definitely threw me for a loop. It definitely was not part of my plan. The fact was that this particular project, the relationship to the Kickstarter thing, and my desire to get my own music out in the world—that hadn't been fulfilled. That's what made it feel like it didn't make sense for me to work on the next [AnCo] record.
....
Pitchfork: What's your status with Animal Collective? Do you expect to rejoin them after the Painting With cycle is done?
Deakin: I would be really surprised if that didn't happen. The way that we talked about had nothing to do with us breaking up, or anybody feeling like I shouldn't be in the band anymore. There was definitely a conversation that had do with my own processes that affected how long it took me to finish this. There have been times with them where it's felt as equally frustrating for all of us. I've felt so much self doubt about what I'm doing that it's become difficult. I think they had a sense that if we dove into another album cycle and I hadn't finished this yet, it probably would have been challenging for me. I had to face the starkness of this being a thing that I really had to do.
It would be facetious for me to say that it wasn't hard on some level. I love the band. And I know those guys love me. But we talked very clearly about this just being about this album cycle and going back to literally the first records we put it out, we've always had a sort of a rule that each era of the band stands alone on its own configuration. There is an understood agreement that if these guys are working on material that's going to be on a new record, that they would follow that through, including all the touring, until that was done—and after that point would be the discussion about what was next. There is no way for me to say with 100 percent assuredness that anything will happen after Painting With, for any of us, but I think that for all intentions, there's absolutely a clear desire to continue to make records and music together.

pretty interesting. does anyone else read this as deakin wasn't really intending to not be part of PW sessions but the rest of the guys felt like he needed to focus on the solo stuff first?
obviously, deakin makes very clear that everyone is on good terms, so no gossip or anything. just curious as to how it all came about.
glad to hear the next configuration of the band will likely be new and different with deaks back in the fold (and who know what else).

That interview was linked in the Sleep Cycle Thread yesterday
It does read that Deakin was expecting to be on Painting With, especially after 2having a great 2013 tour, but life happened and by the end of 2014, I think the band and him saw that if he didn't allow himself more time to record his solo stuff then it would take even longer for him to finish. It was the best choice too. We got two sweet and very different albums from the band in less than 2 months

I've played at the Springwater many times and it blows my mind to think of AC playing there. It's literally a SMALL two room dive bar tucked behind a McDonald's and the stage is basically a glorified closet space. Also, I can't imagine the regulars that show up there knowing what the hell is going on.

I didn't know where to post this but HOLY SHIT this rip off... .
thats kind of fucked up actually, there's a fine line between being inspired and literally just copying but without the things that make the source material good lol

man, ew. does anyone know that band who did that really obvious Bros (or Comfy?) rip off? yeah there's nothing too special about it but i understand their perhaps hoping that their friends or anyone who doesn't know AC will enjoy the music. i can't see anyone who listens to AC being able to listen to this with a straight face, it's basically Winter's Love mashed with Purple Bottle. well at least it's well made.

i mean, i like being told when someone tells me my own music sounds like something, pretty unavoidable these days, but i wouldn't go and write something in a certain style without trying to do my own thing to it... cos this straight up sounds like a song in the style of Feels era Animal Collective, which is a bit blah. nothing much new being brought to it, ya know? no disrespect to the guy, he has every right i guess... it's only every day a band comes out with a song that sounds like The Strokes or Joy Division so whatever
