I think one of two things happened iirc. Either they wouldn't let him play the keyboard part live/made him use a backing track, so he put his hands behind his back, OR.. during the recording his keyboard somehow turned off/got unplugged, so he just put his hands behind his back, and then afterwords they dubbed in his part for the broadcast.
I remember him being sick a lot during the time and I felt like he was just wanting to put the least amount of effort into playing the song but yeah. wish coulda asked !
and yeah honeycomb early on was definitely something very cool.. kinda reptile sounding but turned out it's got no eggs .

managed to find that 'today's supernatural' conan appearance that some of you were talking about, at least most of it, seems like it gets cut off early here.
in my memory he didn't play at all during the song but apparently it was about halfway through that he put his hands behind his back.
it's a photobucket video, not even sure if you can embed those here so here's the link:

thanks!
e: is it just my imagination or is the tempo ever so slightly slower than it normally is? the song feels like it drags just the tiniest bit here

Weird video. At first I thought his throat was fucked or something but that's not he case. Basically one of his hands drops off, he shares a few knowing looks with Deakin then puts his hands behind his back for the rest of the song.

If only all of their late night performances were as legendary as #1 on Conan. But then again I feel like there are few bands in the world that have late night appearances under their belt that can match that particular performance.

late night appearances just aren't a good setting for ac performances imo, #1 is the only good one imo

Looks like they uploaded all of PW to their soundcloud along with 30 sec previews of every song from their first 6 albums
https://soundcloud.com/anmlcollective
maybe gearing up for early album reissues or something? idk

Avey mentioned that they just got rights to their early albums in the AMA if I remember correctly, so it's possible. Or maybe they'll start using SC to upload boots to, which would also be cool.

soundcloud just launched a paid subscription service, similar to spotify. the previews are probably what we see with a free account/no account, and they're probably the full tracks when you're signed into a subscriber account.

love this too. another thing i felt didn't get much love here was that shabazz palaces "#CAKE" remix, love that so much. the lyrics always crack me up, avey singing shit like 'a cake this good will need a disguise' is priceless lol
