with the shit Domino is pulling with Four Tet (friends of the animal collective), i'm curious if AC would ever consider moving to a different label after their contract is up in support of Kieran... or if that's too political a move for them to pull/if they care that much about label stuff any more or choose to kinda think about it as little as possible.
the other question is... if AC were to move to another label, who would they choose? Warp -- which had been mentioned -- would be awesome. 4AD -- whose had some bad press of their own -- would be another candidate, as they like to snatch up big indie bands (Deerhunter, Big Thief, The National)...
it would be cool if AC went back to something smaller, DIY, but those labels probably don't have the resources to support/fund what they're trying to do artistically now with shows and videos and such, which i think is their main want out of a label... it would be nice if they could be on a label that didn't put them on these obscene release date schedules though. let the kids have the music, dammit
I've always thought Drag City would be sweet and they have a long history of being fans of the label.

I agree with your hesitation to say that and also entirely agree, it would seriously be massive if both of those albums came out next year. The world needs it.
I was mostly hesitant to say that because it's like "talking business" and that's never been a driving force for the band or why any of us like the band but l still think it would be smart on Domino and the band's end.
Another thing I keep thinking about is that for most people Skiffs is completely new so they're going to release it and hopefully get people hyped for the tour but then they're going to bust out these other "new" songs which I think will really blow people's minds. At the very least I think people expecting to hear Skiffs + some old hits will be surprised that they're "already" playing "new" stuff. For us who frequent this board and listen to boots all the time I think our perspective gets pretty warped on that kind of thing.

I would love to see a kid A/amnesiac scenario play out here but I just don’t see domino doing it. It seems their roll outs on domino are always protracted

this is definitely the dream. didn't want to mention it, but...ya. in my dreams...AC back on Paw Tracks, releasing albums at a click of 2 per year (or at least 1 LP + 1 EP), just doing off-the-cuff stuff and being wild and free... the dream.
not to mention all the solo stuff moving to Paw Tracks... imagine a wild noise-pop album from Deakin on PAW TRACKS. Geo doing some ambient tape series, Panda dropping all his collbs and solo-works, Avey keeping up his pretty steady click, all the while getting new AC bops. oh boy

Feeling like we got incredibly lucky that they were able to get together for this before NYC started getting hit hard by COVID again. Hopefully they were able to get most if not all of it done.

So based on that DM it sounds like they might be saving Peanut Butter Hearts for this LP? Would be so exciting to have two Deakin tracks on an album

I would definitely be surprised if they left domino. They all have families to support and Domino pays them a lot better than a smaller label and still gives them creative freedom. The stuff with 4tet is a bummer but I doubt AC wants to risk lowering their bottom line. I doubt Noah would risk financial security because of streaming beef- he has two teenagers to take care of. Also I think Dave and Noah's recent solo releases all going through domino indicates they are more than happy with whatever deal they have with them.

I'm probably in the extreme minority here but i think Skiffs 2 would be better off with Defeat as a non-album single/EP. More room to breathe. I also liked Safer as a single. It's big enough to be its own universe.

Been thinking about it again and I feel like this should be a really condensed album: King's Walk, Magicians, Stride Right, Defeat, Genie's Open, in that order. I had wanted Gem and I and Broke Zodiac to be in there before but I think the album would shine the most if it didn't have any ditties like those. They can be saved for an EP with Soul Capturer and maybe even Peanut Butter Hearts.

I'd get why those songs might be excluded from the LP, but I think they go a really long way in rounding out the potential musical journey of the album. They provide a bit more context for Defeat's middle section.

Feel like you at least have to include Broke Zodiac, since it literally ends on the same note that begins Defeat. Would be a huge missed opportunity imo. Also without it or Gem, the album would be without any Panda songs! I say:
Magicians
Stride Right
Kings Walk
Broke Zodiac
Defeat
Genie's Open

Well the thing is, Broke and Soul Capturer also end and start on the same chord, so I could totally see that working in an EP, though I do love Broke -> Defeat. Also Genie's Open is a Panda tune to me, but I guess maybe not

Yeah I feel you about Genie, I was surprised to see that Dave said he wrote it since Noah's vocals are way more prominent.

could see broke zode>defeat being a flesh canoe>purp bottle situation, not for their place on the traacklist but for keeping a live transition that worked pretty well onto studio. gem and i and broke zodiac should be on the album i think though because it gives the album more detailed palette of sounds, there should be some levity from the longer psych country stuff

also broke zodiac is one of the prettiest songs this era if they record it how they played it in cincinnati

Honestly yeah, I would still be really happy having Gem and Broke on there. I think I just had a sudden shift towards wanting them off because I started thinking about how they might not want to make the album have too many songs so that they can keep the jammy-ness present in the long songs.

I am SO glad they didn’t go album + EP route with all of their songs. They easily could have but instead chose to let songs have intros and outros and room to breathe.

Is that so certain? They've got enough songs to still drop an LP and an EP after time skiffs. Also, apparently buoys is considered an LP and homies is an EP, so I don't know. I don't care how they'll release the remaining songs, I just hope that all the songs they played live will see the light of day in some form or another. Although I'd sacrifice soul capturer and kings without a doubt if that would mean that we get studio versions of all the other songs they played (plus maybe one or two studio only goodies).

well that would be even better! i meant that i'm glad TS1 and TS2 weren't condensed into one album with an EP for a few tracks and some left out of the studio forever.

Oh that's so true.
I mentioned in Skiffs 1 thread but like... I think it makes a lot of sense to make this their big double-LP. Sort of.
It doesn't even have to be that huge, but Defeat/Magicians/Panda's Songs/Stride Rite alone have to be 50 min. MINIMUM. And maybe that's literally what it will be and that isn't double.
But if they wanna stretch out at all like they're doing on Skiffs 1 or add anymore studio-only/new songs then make that thing a gatdamn double.
Maybe I or others have already made this point liek 5x but like... its more true than ever somehow via the sheer existence of SWE
And ya, maybe no EPs this era. Bridge already kinda was the EP of the era in a way. Or else a bridge
between eras, ya know...
