OOO shit ok, I'm pretty alright with that being the lead single. Save the highlights for the full experience.
Bro this IS the highlights.

soul capturer is for sure the song i care the least about on this album, but i also cared the least about car keys and walker and they turned out great.
so i guess what i'm trying to say here is "cool"

Time Skiffs had a middling critical reaction at best I'd say
i'm getting caught up too and i don't mean to shit kick, but at least from what I remember of Feb 22 the most middling response was that time skiffs was maybe a hare too safe in what was otherwise regarded as a welcome return to form?? idk like i said i guess i don't remember, but i deffo don't remember any middling reviews. even the indiecast episode where ian cohen calls time skiffs one of his biggest disappointments it wasn't because the album sucked it was because the album was too comfortable, and that's not even in the top 1000 meanest things ian cohen has said about music

Yeah I don’t get not getting Soul Capturer, it’s like a warm blanket or a soothing low hum. It’s amazing and I have full confidence this version will be even better than the live version

soul capturer has always seemed like a natural choice for a lead single to me — right length, catchy, and I think a great canvas for them to ‘punch up’ in the studio. plus, it was a later add to the setlist, which suggested to me that they’d be excited about recording and releasing it
Excited to see what the next single(s) will be. I assume one of the panda tunes will make it but it’s a toss up as to which. I’ve also got to assume the new song will also be a single, like strung was, so I wonder if they’ll be releasing any of the “big” songs as singles

i always liked sc but it's a bit of a slow jam to have as a single after defeat. regardless i can't wait to hear how it turned out
(i guess a lot of these songs are on the slower side but sc doubly so to me)

At this point hurdy gurdy feels cemented as a Skiffs sound — do we think it will it appear on this single? This is the One if it’s on the album at all

I’m not terribly familiar with soul cap. So in my mind, if this track ends up great, then expectations for the album will be sky high

there's 100% gotta be gurdy, integral element to the song! I think we'll have just as much gurdy on this as skiffs.

I mean it was already on Defeat, though I guess that's no indicator of whether it will appear on the album, since we have yet to know whether Defeat will be on the album...

In a way, the hurdy gurdy is analogous to the passage of time itself, tying both records together in a bow of drone

SC is kind of like People 2.0, it's like a lost Feels track, everyone wants classic AC and here it is. It was so exciting when they debuted this on the blast stream back in 2021. A lot of good memories from that time AC related and otherwise.

song is just hurdy, 3 guitars and 3 voices and a lil mo tucker beat
Imagine hearing all that guitar in an AC track... haven't had that since like... well, Strung, but still I assume this will be more loudly maybe even sparsely guitar strummin, idk it is kinda a Feels-y zone for them. Don't know what I'm gonna do in there....

Are we talking like its confirmed that Soul Capturer is the next single?
Also, its my least favourite TS2 song but that actually works well. Like, low pressure ya know. If I like the studio more than live then that bodes incredibly well for the tracks I'm really exited for.

The interesting thing about soul cap is that if you watch the live vids, Deak is actually playing bass but strumming the chords way high up on the neck. I wonder if they kept it that way in the studio or if that was just born of necessity from only having so many guitars on tour.

I mean, everything makes sense. the 27th is a month from defeat, it’s a wednesday which makes sense for domino standards, also about a week from them sending out the postcards, time skiffs was teased a similar way about a week before prester john dropped and it was announced so idk. Believable enough to me

TTG is thd only freebirder I trust. That said I fucking love Cap, echoing what opposite field said, it's an immediate classic to me. Again, it's the bridge between TVU and TGD

I don't remember who posted it, but we were told Prester John would be the first single for Time Skiffs in pretty much the same fashion (around a week before the album was announced)
I like Soul Capturer a lot. I'm mostly familiar with the version they debuted in Cincinnati, but it was a p fitting encore for that setlist. Excitied to see how it's evolved

I'm excited for it. It's such a trance, relaxing kinda song. Like the TS singles though, it seems like a bit of an odd choice. Seems kinda random

The Time Skiffs singles seemed odd to me at the time. I figured they would go with Dragon Slayer or Car Keys. But when I heard the studio versions of those tracks, I realized why Domino would pick Prester John and Walker over them. I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case here too

Soul Capturer is going to be a single? Okay... They have throwaways that could crush this song, but I'll leave the art to the artists.

just listened to a boot of this song again (i know, i shouldn't be at this point...) and there are definitely some weird af sound effects that Geo is throwing in there too
if you DARE to listen to a boot at this point...2:45 of this vid... tons of bleepy bloops...then again at the end

Kind of makes sense it's the single at this point. They've never cared for singles and would rather pick ones based on what they want to convey with the album I think. Soul Capturer is like Prester—conveys the band setup like the video for Prester did, gets people to expect a slower and more contemplative record, and leaves the best parts for the actual album.

it's so subtle and it's not in every version, but having just listened to four boots in a row, the best part of "Soul Capturer" is when Panda Bear goes on this absolutely freaking beautiful 'lead guitar' wandering melody bit... i hope both his vocals and his guitar part are really highlighted on this song, because his guitar parts in particular are stunningly beautiful

Soul Capturer is probably my fav of what I heard from the boots, think this one is gonna rip. So glad we're going to have it for some summer months, seems like it'll benefit from the heat!

I agree with this, and it's what got me into the song originally. The Pitchfork Fest show in 21 he does this chill hook at the beginning of the song, but I don't think I've heard it again on any other boots. I really wish the studio version would feature it, but it seems like he quit doing that part?

Oh you can totally see me in this lol. That was the second time I saw it, first was at Pitchfork and I wasn’t the biggest fan but that performance in WI definitely changed my thoughts on it a lot. Actually remember that one very vividly which is weird cause it’s still probably my least favorite skiffs2 song as of now. Remember seeing the little capturer guy in the visuals and before I could tell they were playing sc I thought they were about to start playing burglars. Guess he looks more like a burglar than a capturer. Anyway..
Video definitely doesn’t do it justice, was in the front so view was perfect and the whole song was definitely a vibe. Based on the way defeat came out I think they’ll definitely capture (haha I didn’t even mean to do that I swear) that magic on this one too

That’s at the end yeah? That shits gonna be so nice. Far and away my favourite part of SC tho is the three way harmony after the second verse where Avey yells SOUL. So damn good, especially in the Blast Radio version which may be one of the most sublime moments in their entire oeuvre.
