I've wondered for a long time if Radiohead has a rivalry with AC. They share a lot of influences (dub, Madlib, Floating Points, Erykah Badu, Jazz, Aphex Twin) and have both been Pitchfork darlings for most if not all their careers. AC has to be on their radar, they've headlined the same festivals right?
Take something like Safer or Cuckoo Cuckoo (even New Town Burnout) and they compete with the best stuff Radiohead's done
have they ever talked about each other in interviews? would like to read that!

Barely. Just this quote as far as I know.
wrote:
Avey: I dont like radiohead, ill even go as far to say that they are pretty boring. But thats where the discussion ends for me. It doesnt prove that they are a bad band or that any one of their records is bad it just means i dont connect to them. And this is proven by the people that love them and im not gonna go on their fan site and try and argue about it cause that would be silly.
That to me is whats at the heart of liking a band. Its an emotional (or personal) connection you have to them and ultimately i dont believe any one of you can explain this phenomenon atleast i cant. Its not concepts that make you like them and i dont believe its concepts that make you dislike them either.
[...]
just a generic example of a band that i dont listen used to make the point that i dont feel the need to call thome york a douche bag because he makes music that i dont like. I actually respect him.
Panda did list "Daily Mail" as a song he was digging at the time though.
It's probably not actually the same sample, but when I cue them up and play them right after eachother, it does sound pretty similar.

I'm listening to Jane - Berserker for the first time in some years and really loving it.
Swan, especially. Straddling the line between scary and beautiful like experts

Listening to the 2004 France bootleg and as much as the sequencing on feels is perfect, it would have been interesting to put My Favorite Colors after Daffy Duck on the record.
my fave (lol) still remains Grass (Doctor Version)
oh I NEED TO SEE!
a doctor...
or in the case of a cross dressing avey tare...?
a dock TESS uh!
Tesla!
DEAD BOW TIE!
(hmm I think I too should probably go seek out a dogstar?)
oh god!

Yep, no shit. I loathe not only the bandwagon jumping lack of originality and imagination but also the insensitivity towards a guy who has been - by all accounts - very warm and approachable, and someone who has struggled with various personal and professional issues at times. I've no patience for that shit.

that just started cuz he sat out on mpp right? it was just a thing about him sitting out and like when he came back for chz. he just got singled out cuz of that... i mean i get its annoying but i hope he knows its just cuz of meme culture around the time of mpp

it's because of mpp and his kickstarter campaign.

I've listened to the Cat's Cradle show from 2004 about 14 times the last week or so, I'm absolutely obsessed with that show. What other Feels era shows rival that? Especially Loch Raven. Loch raven is so beautiful. I never even realized how good Feels was until just now. I fucking love Feels

back in MY day we more focus'd on memeing geo
by WE I mean just me and mr pink!
it was 2004/5!
esp. in regards to getting his GEO BEARD TRIMMINGS
Tribble Trabblings!
The Ewoks!
though I suppose there was also TWIN DEAKS (!) and avey as a crossdressing doctor (a DOCKTESS ... of sorts!) ... and panda in the corner... FREAKING out.. quacking like a duck!
PUKING!
avey's voice floating through the digital waters like that of a psycho-dalek DUCK!
and robotic spoons hit them!
to speak nothing of the DEEKS IS DEAD mythos
that avey loved so much that he said and I quote / para-phrase:
"wow... I have no idea what this even IS (and where it's going)...
and for that reason it is my fave. thread of all time"
to speak nothing of the weirdo mutilated genitals THING that d'avey implied
(implied? IMPLODE!)
this was like 2005 so things were WAY different
you kinda had to be there!
or be square!
but you know what they say
it was hip to be square... then it got lame again
then nerd culture got all big and indie and it got "hip" again (ironically)
now it's back to being some sort of lame cube like structure?
a Tessa rekt?
a sister act?
2?
black in ze proverbial habitual? (shaking things up!)
Cube 2: HYPER CUBE
CUBE 3: HYRDRO CUBE (cube cubed!)
and of course
Cube IV: In Space!
where even god damn time can't erase! (the truth! don't believe that pie!)
BIG LOTS!
it's ALL connected!
and geo knew
he fucking KNEW!
that's who!
THE EWOKS...
yub nub!

This might sound weird, but I was listening to the water curses ep and it occurred to me that it kinda fits closer to the CHz sound than SJ. Cobwebs definitely has a direct similarity with Gotham, the background noises in water curses are pretty reminiscent of the "space radio" vibe in CHz and the middle section of street flash reminds me of Monkey riches in a weird way. Similar textures at least. And the way cymbals are used in wc and cobwebs is pretty CHz to my ear.
Seal Eyeing I guess not so much.

Hey guys, I had a crazy AnCo related coincidence recently.
So, my band has just finished our first debut album. We finished production on it back in December, and I decided to set the release date on February 19th to coincide with Painting With.
One of our most personal songs is called Vanilla Coke (Note the food/beverage related title). Despite the lighthearted title, it details how our vocalist misses his grandfather and reflects on how he used to envision his future would be. He had hopes of his grandpa showing him how to drive a car or getting to see him perform music one day, but these were all dashed to the wind with his passing.
Imagine my surprise listening to Bagels in Kiev (food related and lighthearted again...) for the first time and hearing Avey sing, "Grandpop we had sweet days on the beach in Ventnor I remember. Wish we could walk along and you could watch the waves and talk the current Septembers."
It was just the coolest coincidence for me, especially with setting up our album to release on the same day as theirs. Hope some of you enjoyed hearing about that.

Domino does not make it easy to order from the correct region. I think the band webpage was redirecting to the UK shop the day it went up for preorder.

I have been enjoying it! Though Panda and Avey have thrown in some videos that have some fucked up edits in the middle or end which has messed with me in a pleasant, although jarring, mind-altered state.
Once snippit that made me laugh by Avey about watching Pavement on 120 minutes with Geo.
wrote:
It inspired me to make music like no other music had. One night in high school myself, Brian (geologist) and another friend of ours waited for pavement’s performance on 120 minutes while drinking vodka with diet Dr Pepper (what?) and smoking weed.
