all this talk of the GOATed cha cha girl got me back to this -- it is so nostalgic to me -- and half the songs haven't even been released officially yet!

Hey friends does anyone have a copy of the Ark bootleg with early versions of what eventually was released as HCTI (later retitled to Ark)? Should start with Too Soon and end with Infinite Dressing Table if I remember correctly. If so, would you punch a copy to me please?

Have been obsessed with Mr. Noah lately. Probably my favorite of all the studio incarnations of PBVSGR tracks. That distorted loop is just unstoppable, one of the coolest loops any of the boys have ever put together imo.

Thank you! Do you have a copy you might be able to upload later? I maintain my own library of music so having the mp3s is a must

listening to the bonefish pod with Rusty Santos -- he talks about recording Sung Tongs. cool stuff

one of their initial ideas for ST was for it to be "an acoustic My Bloody Valentine"

What do you think is their most radical reimagining of a old song?

Just listened to the one/two combo of 2017 Sweet Road/Bees and its gotta be up there.

Got to see 'em do those two live and while they are incredible I don't think they hold a candle to WCWAR? '07. To me it's their blueprint of reinventing a song and they haven't quite come close to topping it since

not necessarily their most radical rework, but after seeing them in 22 my gf said “i really liked that new deakin song!” and i was like “what new deakin song? that was wide eyed!”

winters love 08 and good lovin outside 04 are the most radical departures i think. there are so many good choices to choose from!!! maybe banshee beat 08/09?

I love Street Flash so much.

SJ is unbelievably brilliant but there are still days I wish SF and Safer had squeezed on there.

Agreed, Foxtrot. Street Flash is their best song. It’s such an intimate song but it sounds massive. Avey is speaking directly to my soul. Every detail is perfect.

This is it for me. I listen to the MPP era live versions of WCWAR and Leaf House almost more than the original songs at this point. I also think they are a great way to show someone who is familiar with the band but maybe not the live experience/bootleg thing how they rework songs.

Yeah, how did they not include Safer on any substantial release! It should've for sure been on the Water Curses EP if they couldn't finish it in time for SJ. From 3 minutes in to the end of the track is what MPP would've sounded like without Ben Allen style production. Especially the last minute with those Panda island vocals. Also, some of the best screaming vocals from Avey on this one. Classic jam. Street Flash is a gem, that woman laughing/crying in the middle is so psychedelic.

new banner [admin note: thnx] is rad!

Looking to gauge interest in an idea:

Last time in the lead up to Skiffs I did the whole back catalogue listening schedule thing. I was thinking of running something a little different to ease the wait this time.

The idea is that anyone who is willing to commit to participating submits a selection of 5 AC tracks that they would love people to listen to/focus on/revisit/re-evaluate in a given week. I chose 5 to keep the commitment level reasonably low/achievable.

Then I take all of the entries and at the start of each week for the 8 weeks leading up to IIN one entry is chosen via random number generator and we all spend the week revisiting and discussing the 5 tracks select by that user.

Let me know if this sound like a good idea and if there is enough interest I'll start a thread and try to set things up so that the first selection can happen on Friday (the 4th). That'd mean 8 neat weeks and 8 user's 5 track selections.

there's this thing avey does occasionally where he goes into full john lennon mode and writes lyrics that like, maybe they're about something on some level, but mainly they're just meant to be a series of images and words that sound cool and poetic regardless of how much sense they make. thinking specifically of

"all the people life lurking/in dominions of a hot turk dish/if the elephants are reaching for our purses/then meet me after the world with the shivers"

and

"enemies change their minds/don't think you're above it/infinite blasts of light on wooded cares/elements in the mine are tipping the public/focusing on design of burning stairs"

any other examples of him going into unabashed freeform imagery mode like this? i like these two bits a whole lot and wish he'd do that kinda thing more lol
