listening to pullhair rubeye and im on the verge of tears. how did i not realize how beautiful this album is?! i think the whole backwards/forwards thing threw me off for such a long time, but i've finally come around and... fuuuuck
i love how there is so much AC that i know about and still haven't listened to. i like to spread things out so for many years there will always be something new to listen to. and right now is the right time for pullhair rubeye. does that make sense? does anyone else do this?

definitely, there are a handful of AC releases that I still haven't listened to or have only given a cursory listen like PB's self-titled, Noah's ark and TTG. I also have't listened to Down There much at all though I really like it
It's nice to know I still have some uncharted territory that I can return to later. But then again even if I ever wear out the studio discog, I haven't even scratched the surface of live recordings

I did that a while ago. Of the main albums strawberry jam was the last I got into, besides Danse Manatee. Young Prayer I also listened to properly long after I was familiar with PB's stuff.

Oh my God Viktor dude pbs first album connected with me this summer dude. What an album. Quite overlooked for what it is and I did as well , but somehow listened through it and like everything else just connected almost immediately with me. That album was my summer. And grim reaper. Good summer I'd say !

same for me pumpkins!! it was a very important soundtrack to my summer. on the farm and liebe auf der ersten blick will forever remind me of taking city buses and being sad at work...
that whole album has such a raw and natural quality that almost isn't even present on any other AC-related release (or it is, but in a different/more polished way?)

pretty awesome usage. I've wanted to use that with a stranger on an airplane before but have always decided i'd rather continue my trips vs being detained. i'm glad to see other applications in a more standard, less likely to freak people out, dialogue.

fireworks is probably the best animal collective song.
would give a lot for them to resurrect it live as the live version happening on the mpp era tours was such a highlight of the shows i went to.

Checking in. It's not their best, it's not my favourite, but it's the one which changed me forever. Actually, it might well be my favourite!

#1 is the weakest track, I must say. But I love how it sounds after fireworks.
Hey Derek is about Noah's dog that died, right? It kind of makes me sad but I don't know if it should. Been listening to that one a lot too

I agree on all points. SJ was my first AC experience. Peacebone literally altered my brain chemistry. I can remember the first time through thinking "wtf is this? Do I even like this?!" Reverend Green got my attention and Fireworks blew my mind.

Strawberry Jam is the perfect introduction to the band in my opinion (it wasn't mine). It's just the right amount of weird and not weird. There are discernible structures to the songs. Some of the lyrics are very immediate. The melodies are fantastic. If you can get someone to give it enough tries, and they begin to like it, then they've got a great chance at breaking through and really enjoying the band. The casual listener also gets through the Animal Collective teething phase relatively unscathed i.e Avey's screams, left-field venturing (#1), full band involvement, disturbing song matter (Cuckoo).
It's the whole package
