They also did that little “challenge” bit last night in Portland, it was Avey singing. They actually did several mini-songs as intros and outros, I wonder if they’ll turn into proper songs down the line. The one into Unsolved Mysteries was particularly developed, no way it was just improvised

thats sick i kinda remember a "challenge" lyric in some of last month shows... ya they always had 2-3 moments of jams that were on the cusp of a full "song" so maybe theyre just developing lil things like that for just this tour.

maaaaaaan. Only complete recording I have of my own now is the KS city show and my idea to put phone directly on floor for entirety of show at my feet towards front row didnt pan out... i might still try and bass-reduce that one by a ton and see what happens, but its soooo fuggin bassy cuz of the weird way i tried to do it

my brother in christ i am BEGGING for that KC recording. :negative: i need to relive strung with everything... I will tip in CA$H DOLLAR$. lol (not even joking)

IDK about y'all but something I've noticed since people have started touring again is that so far, everyone but Animal Collective's sound mixing sounded shoddy. I've seen Beach House, Courtney Barnett and Raveena live this year and nobody sounded as clear or well balanced as AC (and most had fewer bandmates!!). Idk if it's that they've been doing this forever, or have a super reliable crew? But props to the sound techs and engineers touring w AC. They are. Pros!!!

our boys are super on top of sound checking. i think that's why they weren't doing festivals for a bit in the early 2010s because of some particularly bad experiences where seemingly they weren't given enough of a chance to sound check so their mixes (monitor or otherwise) weren't tolerable to them. an early AC show I saw was a festival set in 2013 where they got off stage in the middle(?) of Purple Bottle because there was too much feedback onstage. i can only imagine how unbearable a bad mix is

Vancouver tonight -- recorded on my Tascam DR-05 and will upload when I get a chance.
Spoiler: show
Great show. Got "Defeat"! And "Gem and I." Loved Noah's bare hand drumming on Defeat...didn't know he was doing that. Lots of details in "Gem and I" that I'd never picked up from the boots. One little interlude song that I've never heard before before "Strung."

Setlist:

1. Bluish
2. Dragon Slayer
3. Gem and I
4. Royal and Desire
5. Magicians From Baltimore
6. Soul Capturer
7. In the Flowers
8. Screens
9. (Unkown Avey song: "It was the great challenge...")
10. Strung With Everything
11. Defeat
12. Wide Eyed
13. Chores

Encore
"Where's Deakin?"
"Happy Birthday Abby"
14. Unsolved Mysteries
15. We Go Back
16. For Reverend Green

Oh and I will say the place I stood in Ogden in Denver was a little peaky and muddy. But not bad, it just threw into relief how good their live mix usually has been esp this year

This is awesome, thank you. Maybe the best Screens I've heard. God I love that song, and the deafening silence in the middle of the song is something special on this one. Like the crowd shuts up for 5 whole seconds

No new new songs and no Royal since it’s too mellow

That was such a good set but I’m heartbroken that they got cut off before playing For Revered Green :negative:
So glad I finally got to hear these skiffs songs live at least!

Thank you for pointing out that Unkown Avey song: "It was the great challenge...".

I remember that from the Madison show and really enjoyed it. Seems to be an intro to Strung but would love if it popped up again somewhere else.

Listened to the Vancouver boot. The challenge is sick. Definitely needs to becomes something. I wonder if we're getting treated to a snippet (or entirety) of a skiffs 2 track?

Here's my one video from the San Francisco show -- the encore songs: Screens > Wide Eyed > For Reverend Green

This has my external audio recording synced to the picture.

Goddamn Vancouver was unreal.

Goddamn...

I saw them in Sante Fe in May and while it was a great show, it didn't completely blow my mind...Sound was a little tame in the Meow Wolf and I didn't feel like I got blasted.

But Vancouver, man...Wow. That show was easily the best of the 5 times I've seen them. Spectacular.

Man thank you again for this, sounds great and is really hitting the spot right now. I am just as psyched to see them in two weeks as I was back in March.

ok this video has the "corner of the darkness" mini-song intro to Unsolved Mysteries. have they been playing it at other shows? I think it's so cool and hope it becomes a full song someday

i heard something similar at a july show, i think the lyrics were "in the corner of the room" or something sounding like that. it's like the challenge (played before strung), a reoccurring intro that's gotten more developed over time. really hoping they both become something

i also haven't heard Sea of Light yet until this morning!! Um!! i am beyond pleasantly surprised!!

i think i will wait until late September, early October, to then finally hear all of the others, and be bringing them to many live spaces around the planet via the available acoustic signatures (reverb impulse responses if that helps you to know what i am talking about!!)!!

I don't know much about reverb impulse responses, but I'm sure you'll have a great time with the album! I think they were very faithful to live recordings if you were attuned to that
