Yeah I thought it was great. That part of the song seems to be about grounding yourself during times of hardship and change, I interpreted the yeps as like being aware that many likely went through similar feelings during covid, like "yep, that's how it is sometimes." But yeah don't think there's anyway that makes it into the studio.

Ha! That’d be great. “How you like them apples CA.”
If it is in the studio version, he could be doing that Westerbergian thing where goofiness sidling up next to the serious can give the latter even more poignancy and power. Like how “Unsatisfied” follows “Black Diamond,” a Kiss cover, on
Let It Be. Or “Sixteen Blue” right after “Gary’s Got a Boner.” The contrast.

my moping about the lack of weirdness is only because one of my favorite things about this band is their ability to make me be like "that sound fits perfectly and i have no idea how they made it" and there's a bit less of that this time around
but the new songs are so good and dynamic and i welcome most of the changes. although desert daze passerby can never be topped i think

Based on the background projections I'd wager Dragon Slayer is what they're playing rn
Can someone do a Shreds edit where it sounds like older AC shows lol

In case you missed it... someone kindly recorded and uploaded Pitchfork (YouTube embed not working for me)
Pt 1
Pt 2
The vocals are so clear... "Ready the weapon." Guess that's where Car Keys got its original title

man josh's voice is mixed way too high in the pitchfork stream. im sure he'll nail it on the album but hes not quite hitting these harmonies in prester and soul capturer. find myself wincing quite a bit. its distracting in this stream but im sure itll all work out in the end

Unsolved mysteries is one of my favorite AC songs, so happy they're playing it
Also holy shit, I just heard the new Prester John. They really improved that song a ton

Looks like panda winces at one point early in Prester. I maybe only noticed one thing in that song but yeah I mean that's gotta be hard to pull off. When it works, the 2/3 part stuff sounds great..
For the record ithink deak sounds friggin great having just re listened to most of it on phones

Rick Moranis vibes from ol’ Wheeter. Great sonics on this Pfork boot! Does anybody else hear what I’m hearing at 10:27? AC getting meta...

honestly, this is the best they've ever sounded live... ever... and i've been seeing them play shows since '05
they need to channel deakin's dead shirt that he was wearing last night and focus solely on playing more shows after this tour... they are hot, hot, hot right now

I kinda agree man. I don't know quite how to describe it but they seem so like.. muscular and athletic rn. Musicianship wise obvs. But maybe they've also all been lifting in addition.
It's more clear eyes and direct than ever. And crunchy

This is the fucking dream. This chill dad material requires like a 2 set per night Dead esque CBD gummy fueled extended vibe sesh tour

I have no idea what you guys mean by "dad rock" and "dad material"
Re: september shows
Posted: Sat Sep 11, 2021 7:40 pm
by dio
I kinda do but also dont. its a very subjective thing, these 'dad rock' vibes. I think because of the instrumentation and focus on Avey's sick bass grooves and panda's traditional drum set up, people are picking up on classic rock or 70s jam band energy. Dead/floyd/King Crimson energy maybe I guess.
This is also not a dancey set like the PW shows were... certainly no bro sport or techno loch raven. I mean people are freaking out to Fickle Cycle and Bottle but those are psych rock I guess...
idk I love this mode for them. enjoyed the hell out of the PW shows cuz they felt like a sequel to the MPP shows + Jeremy's sick drumming but I maintain the closest they got to "dad rock" to me was CHZ shows.
not cuz of the instrumentation that much, or genre-wise, but cuz it seemed like they were really doing greatest hits type material. WWIW, Bro Sport, Peacebone, and My Girls all in the same show still feels like too many singles in one show. I think they are best when like 1/3rd of the set is old stuff, and not even obvious ones, which is what they've done since PW shows.
anyway. this is their peak yal... better enjoy it..
*also Prester John has this old like Procol Harum-but-good energy. it feels timeless af. I bet dads would like it. Also dads like cracking open another beer I guess. and drum kits/bass

I'd say we're getting on for fifteen years past their peak but it's my favourite music they've made since FBK. I have very little expectancy or preconception at this point, but I'm grateful they're back together making some pretty great music. A lot of this stuff sounds grower tier (hopefully) and I've not really listened to the boots, certainly far less than anything since 2008, but I'm really looking forward to whatever they release. It feels like a soundtrack to the next phase.

i'd say this is their best stuff since Jam. the live incarnations of defeat personally will always be ac's best song to me now, and im a diehard acer as u all prob are too but i was holding out hope for the last decade that they would realize this kinda music again, slow it down, let themselves breath, crack open a beer and fuckin get in it. also: its time to bring back did you see the words. its been 10 years...

They did and it was a sweet version of it. Agree that this is maybe the best they've ever sounded. In a way I can't really describe I think this era coincides with their maturity as musicians in a really sweet way. Like they're all fully playing to their strengths here.

Did you see the words is on the live at the 9:30 record which was recorded in 2013 if I remember correctly. I love that the brought back fickle cycle. An even bigger treat would be if they played tikwid again!

yeah so in the '19 shows, which I guess are the first leg of this era other than the Music Box shows which had no re-works, Banshee Beat and Grass were the Feels track songs. Now its Purple Bottle and Fickle Cycle, which owns.
Dancer and On a Highway have carried over from both. Pulleys, Native Bell and Reverend Green are gone, leaving Unsolved as the SJ rep. and NO CHZ songs anymore. Meanwhile No More Runnin has appeared.
Bet it won't be til next cycle they do any PW songs (if ever...?). there also were no CHZ songs on PW tours, but only Pulleys has re-emerged from that era I guess. They gotta bust out like Applesauce again one day tho...
*edit never mind, forgot Unsolved somehow

waiting on Man of Oil and Fireworks baby. I mean when are they forreal gonna unchain Fireworks again and set it free from its Tartarus time-prison. Never? Maybe if they do it'd be like a "re-work". That'd be wild to do it without the main percussion sample..
