i'm super dopey when it comes to picking up on lyrics. sometimes even in the studio versions, lol.
i do hear in 6 when we says, "it's so hard/when it comes to fill those spaces, only you can fill those spaces". kinda sweet sounding.

Yeah to be honest track 6 is a standout track for me. And that line is classic panda. Sugary sweet melodies too. Hoping for some harmonies on the album version though.

In song 9 it seems like he is singing "your bed is so good, damn it's so good, so good, so good every day, today, day after day." Ha ha ha! It made me wonder if he will change the lyrics later, because I remembered the interview after the video for Slow Motion where he said that he usually cloaks the private nature of his lyrics, rewriting them so that they are less revealing of his personal thoughts.

There is also a person in the audience quietly rapping at the beginning of the song.

i would be super surprised if lyrics shifted very much, since i can't think of more than a handful of words changing from early pb bootlegs to studio versions. i might be wrong though since he's not the most articulate bro

i think tracks 1 and 2 are one track...maybe it's just me. i think every one of the first 6/7 songs (depending on if you think the first two are one or two tracks) has been my favorite at some point. maybe the last as well. the other three are pretty good(flute song, battles sounding song, principe) but not the caliber of the aforementioned jams. way more top tier tracks here than tomboy had by far

yeah i agree. some of the other tracks (specifically 8 and 9) don't really sound developed yet...which is fine i guess. panda will use his magic to make these songs incredible

Well I think the reason he didn't want the recording to surface was because he thought the songs were undeveloped so that makes sense.

1 and 2 being the same song is an interesting thought, 2 somehow didn't feel like a full song to me.

i really hope the 'flute' part is an actual transition inside a song, with the drums coming in.. that's the 'if i could just leave my body for a night' moment

This is one of the few recordings where the crowd noise actually adds to the show for me. I'm freaking out at all of the same parts the the audience is whooping and yelling.

thatz why i quit the board 2 years ago because i was always getting mocked by AC snobs. why can't people be more polite?

anyway, it doesn't even seem like panda's style anymore to tour songs unfinished. Essentially all the Tomboy songs were premiered with the exact same arrangements, lyrics, etc. that showed up in the finished recordings. The same was true of the Person Pitch material too, and he played Young Prayer in full in concert in 2002 (?). It seems more like Avey's thing to debut songs without choruses etc. (Also Frightened, Summertime Clothes).

They're like stand-up comics, they tour a load of material, filter out the good shit and drop the rest.

Same as I do with FB, make about a hundred posts a day and trim them down at the end of the month for a 'Best O' Stan' repost. My friends/family/colleagues love it!

It may not be his style to tour songs unfinished (though unfinished to us and unfinished to him are two very different understandings), but it seems that he (as stan said) filters out what he likes and doesn't like. He played early versions of Surfers Hymn and Friendship Bracelet in 2008 and 2009, but Friendship Bracelet didn't make it past the first few full Tomboy shows in 2010. Same with The Preakness. Sonic had to push Panda to put Friendship on the album and Preakness didn't make the cut. When those two dropped from the live set we got Scheherazade and Slow Motion, two songs he kept for a long time.

Panda may not change his songs as drastically as Avey does, but you can definitely tell what songs he's psyched about based on his live set. It'll be interesting to see if the set changes at all when he plays Pitchfork in the fall.
