I can't remember who on CA ranked hcti as their favorite album by the band but there's an argument to be made there

It's Tap's fav I think

it's one of my favs, not really sure how I'd rank Feels / Sung Tongs / Spirit / Indian

actually to be honest Sung Tongs might fall below the other three

Spirit/Indian/Feels
Tongs/ODDSAC
Strawberry
Danse/Merriweather/Centipede

!! I had never thought about this... but, there are some similarities and hintses with there being a silhouetted swimming lifeform as part of the artwork, flower shapes on the cover; in many ways they may be like sibling albums but i had never realized it until i saw the names next to eachother. :D :)

the band lineup is the same for those 2 records too (geo/noah/dave). they might have described them as sibling records at some point bc of that ??

also for fun
mpp
feels/hcti/campfire/hollinndagain
strawberry jam/sung tongs
oddsac
centipede hz/danse
spirit

I remember them saying something too like the creative process for both albums was really similar since they had to reinvent their way of looking at/writing songs both times; they'd been writing/playing for 5+ years as a full band up until MPP when they lost Deak and the guitar and with Danse I guess they just wanted to experiment more with structure/noise dynamics

That was a part of Danse but I think what was more significant was that it was the first album with all of them involved in the composition process. Spirit was basically an Avey Tare record featuring Panda on drums, but from what I can tell Danse was more of a group effort. Which is why I think it's seen as more experimental and not as solid a record since it was still kind of new to them...?

Of course I don't think they *accidentally* made a more experimental record but Danse does seem more like AC trying out a bunch of stuff as a new band.

Not really, but I was listening to spirit yesterday and was thinking that someday i'll grow to be as tall as the giant could've worked on Centipede Hz

Would be cool if it were on there really. It doesn't sound like anything on there, but you're right. It would work anyway, giving the record some much needed space. Honestly my big complaint with centipede is that it's so in your face that it just wares you out. Fast, hard, deeply layered song after song after song. I wish there were a track or two like someday I'll grow

I'd say it's one of my favorite AC-related releases. Time will tell if it holds up as well as most of their stuff but I haven't gotten tired of it yet

I jammed both psychoactives tracks a lot on a recent road trip from the east coast to Chicago. They're both really different in production/musical style which is rad. For anyone who only listened once or twice and forgot about it, I'd say check it out again, even if winter/spring are over.

That is Deakin. Deakin is liable to inhabit the body of any other AC member at any time. As you can clearly see via the radiant lighting and general expression of serenity and acceptance on Geo's face, Deakin is inside of him right at that moment.

used to post on the old board quite a bit more. lately it's been once every 6-12 months or so.
but man i'm having one of those AC days where i just realize how much i fucking love them and how much their music can do for me when i'm down. fuck yeah dude. ima share a lil story bout it.

back in the old school days of the internet, i made a myspace friend, just some random dude who seemed cool cause he skated and liked modest mouse. i think he lived in ohio or some shit and i'm in az so i have no idea how we became friends. he was a few years older than me, and we talked on AIM (fuckin AIM ruuuled dude). one day he hit me up and told me it'd be the last time we talked. i don't know if something was going on with him or if he was just over the social media game cause he said he was deleting his AIM and his myspace. but before he went he told me i should check out a band. he was really adamant about me checking them out. he sent me a couple songs over AIM and peaced out before i had time to listen and tell him what i thought. the songs were "Grass" and "Winter's Love".

as silly as it is, this was probably one of the most important conversations i had in my young life. i was 15 at the time and feels had just come out. i don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but dude... i straight up got high off of the music. like physically, mentally... it was similar to the first time smoking weed or tripping mushrooms.. it was a feeling i'd never felt. it was love at first listen man. i was fucking floored.. it was like the sounds filled a void i didn't know existed. like i'd been waiting to hear these sounds but i didn't know it. i also remember thinking, man this is awesome but i'd better be careful when i get my driver's license cause i'm gonna get so high off of blasting this that i'm gonna fuck some shit up lol.

whoever that guy is, man.. i wish i could say thank you. i wish you could know how important it was that i heard what you wanted me to hear. i wish i could somehow pay you back brother. good karma for miles and miles off of what you've done for me. i'm sure i would have come across AC eventually but i feel like it was really important that i heard them when i did. it was like a coming of age experience. my friends and i are all huge AC fans nowadays. been my favorite band ever since, traveled the country just to see em, made friends through em... man. i fucking love this band so much. just had a long ass day and sure enough all it took was MPP on full blast driving my truck around and singing along to make me feel so much better and realize how trivial my 'problems' from the day really were. what a fucking wondrous concoction of sounds these boys have created and man, what it's done for me i could never quite put into words.. even though i'm tryin to do it right now.
