I'm just happy my fav band gets to play with one of the greatest musicians ever tbh. Regardless of the quality, that's pretty cool

look up how old Metallica was when lulu came out (and subtract like three or four years) for a spooky surprise

that John Cale album is a beast, definitely a unique and cohesive sound despite all the different features. the song with AC is cool, neat to hear their vocals on it, but is definitely more in Cale's world than AC's
Thanks for this comment, decided to check out the rest of the album. It hooked me way more than I was expecting.
He even has a track with Actress. Like what

If it's not they've done their homework. First I've come across this playlist. Very tempted to get tidal and recreate it bc spotify is awful

Thx. Yeah they have a few playlists that looked interesting to me, I especially like the songs they chose for the Avey playlist. Guess I'll check the rest out

I asked ChatGPT what the title of the next Animal Collective album would be, and it said "Echoes of the Wild"

John Martyn, second track in, is a legend. Check him out if you dig the acoustic theatrics of a Burt Jansch or a Nick Drake—he and John were pals—but also like your folk with a pinch of jazz and a dash of blissed-out psychedelia. Records like Bless the Weather, Solid Air (about Nick), Inside Out and One World are in a league of their own. Way ahead of his time—beat Sung Tongs by a good 35 years.

"Echoes of the Wild" sounds like one of the titles people were speculating for the next Zelda game before Nintendo announced it would be called Tears of the Kingdom

had a dream last night that i found evidence of some panda bear live performances from 2011 that he performed with more like a small chamber ensemble, including someone credited as the "bee holder". which is a good pun i guess but doesn't make a lot of sense

^haha "found evidence." Tell me you run the live Performance page without telling me you run the live Performance page
Btw, anyone know what guitar Noah uses on Tomboy? Or any shows for that matter, and any info about Avey and Deak's? Just curious, I haven't seen it mentioned and couldn't find anything after a few minutes of googling

Wasn’t it a squier Stratocaster? Avey had a PRS for Feels and SJ eras I believe.
Deakin: You must be speaking of my blueish reddish guitar that I just started using on this last American jaunt. From what I was told it is an old silvertone from the late sixties and was custom painted that way. I found it in a guitar shop in brooklyn for just over $400 which I consider to be a total and complete steal. That and the red tele are my only two guitars that I own. I think that you kind of just need to look and look and someday something will look at you and say "I'm yours" and you will get it. I go to music shops a decent amount and I almost never see guitars that I want. I needed a second guitar for that tour and rushed to music shop the day we left for Boston and there it was, just waiting for me. Kind of a miracle.

I love digging into gear, feel like its been less of a thing recently for whatever reason.
Noah used like an insanely cheap looking XP brand strat copy for Tomboy, could not cost more than $100. I think he had a midi pickup on it though which was then routed through the Korg M3 to make it sound the way it does on Tomboy. For that recent show he did with the bendy guitar stuff he used one of the newer Fender acoustasonic telecasters.
Avey has almost always used strat style guitars with single coil pickups whether they are Fender or other brands. The one he's been using for the last number of years has been from these guys. https://www.30thstreetguitars.com/ He also had a thinline telecaster on these last tours for some songs and Noah used it on Soul Capturer.
Deak seems to have mixed it up the most maybe but for the most part is strats and teles. He used a baritone during CHZ and got a 12 string hagstrom within the last year or so that he's been using on bluish.

Q: Do you still have the black PRS?
Avey: I do but it was busted at a show and so i don't really use it anymore.

I know AC/Beach Boys comparisons have been done to death by now but is it just me or does David Marks look uncannily like Deakin on this cover

Can anybody provide or direct me to a quick account/history of the PW bathroom flacs?
I think I vaguely understand how things went down. Baltimore airport preview (Did they play the whole album that day?) . . . somebody captured stuff from those speakers on their phone? Then posted them . . . where? Were they complete songs? Snippets?
I've tried searching through the CA forums - I'm sure there are discussions somewhere in here. But can't find it exactly.
Related: those files + amazon song snippets . . . were those really the only sense folks had of what the music sounded like, apart from their official releases?

They played the whole album over the speakers at the airport. Bathroom was the best place to capture that. Bathroom 'FLACs' was ironic because the quality was quite shit.
Only other preview were the Amazon snippets.

If memory serves correctly the board first caught wind of it happening because Avey tare's cousin tweeted or posted on IG saying there was new Animal Collective music playing at the BWI airport. Some people thought he was kidding. Dudes talked about how it happened in this interview

Awesome, and thanks for the quotes around flacs - I get it now. Never did before.
From that interview - cool that Pavement was the random comp. I gotta listen to more Pavement. They were just before my time.

Pavement is great, personally I've always found it hard to find a tangible connection between AC and Pavement besides them saying they kinda idolized them. And obv automine. I guess some of the ethos of S and E (my favorite by them) are sort of similar to some AC quirks.

They've described Pavement as a gateway band in the past
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGUQTEPoZac&t=200s
The inspiration on them live is pretty clear though.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jq4JGSxMzms
This weird 90s mix they did in 2016 is a broader picture of what all inspired them as teens in the 90s. I recall in an interview Avey eschewed bands in the early 2010s that were kind of just aping Pavement
