Someone on reddit noticed this studio clip posted by Ryan Oslance on April 4. The only other reference to the group that I see is another post from Ryan on July 19 saying they decided on the band name.
Spoiler: show

New post from Animal Collective on Instagram
“Dispatch from West Asheville! Dave and Brian have teamed up again as New Psycho Actives to soundtrack Bug Mall, an installation currently up at 821 Haywood Rd. You can stop by the gallery and scan the QR code to listen to the music while vou stare into the Bug Mall universe. It'll be up through the end of the year. Many thanks to Swannatopia for asking us to be part of this. It was so much fun to create!

some live footage + interviews from subcarrier. i think this is the birmingham show from 2022-07-11. excerpted setlist seems like Prester John, WGB, NMR, Chores, SWE. Defeat in a separate video here:

I think this was talked about somewhere, but I've really been enjoying this lately. Early Feels versions...feels a lot closer to HCTI -- can hear the throughline. It could've been a lot darker and spindly and warped, something of a HCTI pt. 2 with a tad more light.

I wonder how much credit Kria's presence had on the change of their moods and sound -- even if just emotionally, to something more uplifting, dreamy and bright.

^so good. i would love for someone to do that for strawberry jam and/or sung tongs

it's really striking how great the early feels shows are while being in a totally different world from the equally great studio album

sung tongs would be very doable, lots of great 2003 shows with wild energy (but not the same lyrical shifts that make early feels + MPP shows so interesting imo) but i think SJ would be harder? iirc the shows mostly just seem like early versions of the album cuts rather than totally distinct songs

speaking of that i'd never noticed that at least in the che cafe bootleg Baby Day has like a 6/8 rhythm!

^ ooh that's interesting

Edit: lol just started listening now and it sounds like they're about to play We Tigers instead

Is Sung Tongs their album with the most threes/sixes in the time signatures?

Leaf House, Who Could Win a Rabbit, Winters Love, the repeating part of "Sweet Road", We Tigers, Whaddit I Done, early Baby Day...

I know Reverend Green changed a bit, it used to be faster. But that might be all.

Yeah you really couldn't do the same treatment with SJ especially bc a third of the album was never performed before release. FRG is arguably the most they improved a song from conception to recording

good points re: how strawberry jam wouldn't work but sung tongs would

how many non album sung tongs era songs are there? did i miss any?:
-baby day
-tuvin
-covered in frogs
-dont believe the pilot
-always you
-guadaloops
-prospect hummer
-it's you

it feels like guadaloops/always you from dublab should be excluded cause they have a different vibe and 2004 always you should be included even tho at that point it's technically feels era i guess, always felt like that was a campfire songs/sung tongs song

e: should prob include happy singing band and i remember learning how to dive from 2004 other music as well. this would be a cool compilation. i'd make it myself if i knew what shows/versions were the best to pull from
