Did you guys see that they made a batch of "grass green" instead of the powder blue? .. the first thing is how nice thought green would've matched the album cover much better but was wondering if they choose the blue as a nod to the OG cover color? I want the green one tho BUT it does not come with the extra EP. And it's only $35. Only lol I meant I really would love both. The other thing is I was already planning on getting a regular black version so that I can play the shit out of it and not worry about fucking up my blue vinyls?? Now there's a special green? wanted to transcribe these because it's such a weird feeling that there is 'new' music/lyrics that suddenly exist that gives me the same, very specific feeling that spirit gives me, and it definitely feels like the evocative, impressionistic lyrics of this era are an integral factor. of course that's just because they're written by the same dude at the same time, but it is very surreal to suddenly have what is essentially new 'spirit' music. it's like the 'protagonist' of spirit is also singing this song. deleted yet essential scenes of a movie. it's like someone out of nowhere showing you a time capsule of stuff you didn't even know existed

also a little easter egg i noticed while transcribing - it sounds like the bit of vocals directly after 'remember jeremy from' _____ is 'censored' , there's a little effect there that obscures the vocal, maybe he felt like he was identifying someone too specifically there or something

the sort of vibe that spirit gives me is definitely nostalgia, but it hits different than typical nostalgia, cause it feels like hearing the yearnings of an alien's experiences from a slightly different parallel reality - close enough that it still feels relatable, different enough that you feel like the person singing experienced something different than you that you'll never fully understand, though you can relate on a visceral foundational level. the lyrics, the timeless quality of the music, the spaciness of the sounds, the spontaneity of its sudden twists and turns, and cover art all play a part in painting this slightly off-kilter otherworldly picture. no other music quite like it

Random thoughts: the opening beat with the high-pitched thing reminds me very strongly of when the beat kicks in during the intro of "I feel a change coming on" by sonic boom. I love the way Avey sings "protect" in the first set of vocals, and the "covers reek of old nostalgia" line is so damn good.

As this settles on ears and I can more and more picture I as actually fitting on spirit. It still has this vibe of feeling like its from a lost era between spirit and danse and almost disconnected from them. Like there's an alternate universe where this son exists with panda drumming over it. It's the groovy loop that comes in at beginning and between some verses that feels like a totally different weird vibe

The acoustic guitar is similar to other spirit tracks, but in this context it's really trance/techno y(?). "..lovers YEARS ago" is an insane and beautifully deranged avey-ism on par with iconic thing like peacebone chorus or grass screams

i agree the longer you listen to it the more it sounds like it'd feel right at home on spirit, or at minimum close enough to fit on a companion ep (which seems to literally be the case) - i didnt feel that way on the initial listen but it def feels like spirit/spirit adjacent on subsequent listens

feel bad for old heads who stopped following the band who may never know about this ep

I think..."I fought a [???????????]" is "I bought a cosmo for fifteen dollars", mostly bc the previous lyric "into the air my pocket hollers" seems like he's out of money, and a $15 cosmo would break my bank in the past, personally. Earlier in the stanza he talks about a Shepard's stew, which to me seems like a free meal, could also indicate being strapped for cash, idk.

i'm fucking *obsessed* with untitled #1, holy fucking shit y'all. i'm in heaven listening to this shit. it's even got some devotion-era beach house-style synths/organs in the background (though obviously came first). it's glowing, smoldering, burning, aching... i've been waiting for this remaster for a while but never thought it'd come with slices of transcendence like this.

"dreams" is one of my all-time favorite songs, so i'm rabidly excited to hear avey's take on it. just, HOLY FUCK Y'ALL.
