I Know I Don't sounded really weird from the little clip of it I heard before the show, but it was fuckin beautiful in philly. Every one of the new songs had a clear, gorgeous melody floating through it. Honestly it feels a bit like he's actually doing what he said he would on painting with, meaning he's reducing his songwriting down to very basic components, except this time it is actually hitting hard (instead of falling flat, which i still think happened to PW)

on the buoys soundboard recording there's a deep sub-bass note that plays when he says the word me in "it comes to me" and on every following line. it's more subtle in my headphones but when i play it on a good set of speakers with the bass on high the song becomes way cooler

I posted this in the live forum too, but hopefully you'll find this recording in the same ballpark as that live video in terms of sound. Dance Avey Dance recorded it and I ran it through a mixing/mastering chain. Sounds pretty dimensional to me, and the sub bass stuff is quite delicious.

Enjoy!

what do you think the album will open/close with? feeling it's gonna start with dolphin and end with crescendo or sabbath.

I could see Calling in Sick being a good closer since it ends on those big piano notes.

This is the one song that seems out of place to me; it was hard to even hear Noah's vocals on it at the show in Boston. I do think it would be a mellow and nice closer, just hope it's recorded better than it sounded live.

The new tunes are very Cat Stevens for me, maybe because of the melodies and the acoustic guitar vibe...

I think I am thinking of a different new song, I thought calling in sick was the one that is just piano samples with minimal vocals from panda...anyone know the name of that new song?

This is Calling in Sick:

It definitely doesn't have minimal vocals from Panda though

i hope calling in sick is the penultimate track. the way how at some shows the strung out piano notes lead into sunset is beautiful..he should put a remastered sunset on this album

I Know I Don't and Cranked have almost the same exact riff. I wonder if they are like a back to back piece on the album

I wonder if the whole album flows together kind of like Good Girl/Carrots. I also wonder if his original intent with this tour was to play the whole thing, based on the “Plays Buoy” verbiage.

Unrelated: Are those the bros samples on Sabbath? The woman

my bouy album order prediction is as follows
Spoiler: show
1. Dolphin
2. Buoys
3. I Know I Don’t
4. Cranked
5. Sabbath
6. Crescendo
7. Woken
8. Calling in Sick
9. Home Free

Just a rough draft atm
i’m very confident in dolphin opener cuz its the only new song he’s opened sets with, and 5+ times too

Buoys 2nd makes sense given his penchant for making the 2nd song really important (tomboy, mr noah) and how buoys usually comes after a quietish part which dolphin provides.

Idk where cranked or i know i dont fit so i put em right after buoys. I know i dont kinda makes sense as a 3rd song to me. They both kinda have similar instrumentals too so it works. They could probably be switched tho

sabbath->crescendo was a duo he played on two early sets so i’m imagining he stuck em together at first just to experiment with how they work live.
crescendo->woken is just cause there’s a sample he plays right inbetween the two in the brooklyn steel boot that he doesn’t play in any other woken performance ive heard lol. Kinda makes sense to me

I think calling in sick or home free will be the closer but i’m not sure which, he usually plays both near the end of sets. Home free is the only new song he’s ended a set with (out of like 13 documented setlists) and the title also just fits lol. These could be interchangeable as well tho

Buoys just feels so final to me, like it needs to be at the end of something. Idk what it is that makes a song sound “final,” but it does

my guess is sabbath opener and buoys closer.

for a while I was like nah surely buoys is too light and catchy to close, but then I remembered ponytail closes person pitch and it made more sense

and sabbath to me is the weirdest one, and kinda feels like opening a mysterious book in a sunny old house. that's why I think it should start the album

no jk idk, i doubt it tho. i think it getting a slightly fuller release cycle will kind of set Homies into relief as this kinda weird one-off mini lp, and this is the actual LP6. i think... seems like too many songs to put on a vinyl-only sub-release imo

Agreed, "Buoys" (or "Bouys"?) will most likely be the first single and will be the second track (after "Dolphin") or third track.

I bet "Calling In Sick" will be the closer.

this is the buoys tracklisting im thinking..with a hot take in there that i mentioned b4...
Spoiler: show
dolphin
buoys
home free
i know i dont
sabbath
crescendo
woken
calling in sick
sunset

i think sabbath>crescendo>woken is the way hes gonna go for the middle, especially knowing his penchant for putting a more low key song in the middle like schezerade or tropic of cancer in the middle. i think cranked might be a b-side to buoys single and i really think the calling in sick > sunset transition is too much for him to pass up. its a scorcher that he'll carry over homies material to buoys but i think he might remix and remaster it. word upp

Why would he end it with Sunset that doesn't make any sense

He should end it with Drone instead

jk but I'd actually be ok with that
