Hello Again,

Here is the recording of the Ogden Theatre. The crowd noise is pretty severe, but it is what it is.

Here's the link - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... sp=sharing

Let me know if there's a better way besides Google Drive.

Weird, my impression of Ogden was that the crowd was pretty quiet (maybe even too chill?) but the sound was like peaking the whole time and JUST a lil rough overall. Its all about where you stand cuz this sounds pretty good.

Kansas seemed talkative aF at some points but ultimately were kinda really hype at key moments like Strung w/ Everything and Flowers and shit.

glad strung is (by all accounts I've seen) big and fun live, but as far as listening to the boots it hasn't come through as a highlight for me.
feels like a song they might come back to with a new approach in a few years' time and really lock it in

it definitely feels like a new live staple honestly, like the ending has Purple Bottle levels of hype.

Have I already talked about how Prester seems fully retired already? Thats why im honestly not complaining about this era stretching on longer... its like that and Walker are already friggin gone... and Broke and Stride seem to happen very rarely.

I never heard Prester out of the 4 shows this year! whatev, but still

maaaaaaan. Only complete recording I have of my own now is the KS city show and my idea to put phone directly on floor for entirety of show at my feet towards front row didnt pan out... i might still try and bass-reduce that one by a ton and see what happens, but its soooo fuggin bassy cuz of the weird way i tried to do it

BUT... my semi complete but incomplete Mishawaka recording sounds pretty decent. Beautiful Defeat performance reverberating off the mountains lol fuk. If I can make more sense of these I will share if there's any interest... just might take a bit.

I lost my Nashville recording due to a drowned phone incident in June, but I know there's a great recording of the Atlanta show mere days later on youtube. Anyway. Fuck i love this band so much

this is such a minor thing but I feel like they added this thing Avey and Panda do where they are like making whispery sounds between the words in the "just a frightened mooooooother..." and it sounds great... very stereoscopic effect.

And I also feel like Deakin's keyboard stuff got even more refined in at least one part.

2 days before the next run, do we think we're in for anything new? Recently remembered they were playing Grass back in 2019, still have never gotten to hear that one live.

I'll be at Central Park and excited to see them outside. Saw they just added Taper's Choice which is like Alex Bleeker from Real Estate with the vampire weekend drummer and guitar dude from darkside doing like full on unironic jam band stuff. Should be set the vibe well.

Gonna be at central park. Oh baby. Seeing Animal collective live just makes fucking sense, seeing as they a bunch of tree people anyways. I've always wanted to see them live so this bank fucking concert shit is perfect, after the Asheville show i've been craving this. They should play grass or native bell again like damn

My hope is for fickle cycle, so bummed it was only played in the Midwest.

Excited to see them in Portland thursday finally! Only thing I'm concerned about is on their first leg of the tour before this show got rescheduled, they were doing Defeat at every show and now they are not. I've seen them play this material twice already and have yet to witness defeat live, and I just really hope they go for it. I almost want to personally request it to them on Instagram, but I'm not gonna be that guy because I get that's annoying.

man im like simp as hell for them rn, ive just been going b/w like panda madrid and recent live AC recordings on youtube (and a thrown in '09 recording omg) and just chillin. I'm "obsessed" with this live era in terms of being able 2 chill with it so easily.

i wonder if they might kinda do this set up forever now lol

I was kinda wondering the same thing. Feels like we could be entering a "late stage" era of the band where the instrument set up settles into something long term. Time will tell

Just came to say the same thing. I'm guessing they're just skiffs 2 songs the person who posted doesn't know but can anyone confirm?

Yep jtmeag4 is almost certainly right. Someone posted a snippet of them playing Genie's on ig and they shared it on their stories.

alright so I was tripping balls yesterday and need some help piecing together what's reality and what's not — that SF show was something special, right? feels like sometimes songs were played backwards or like they had been reimagined from another dimension, where sometimes you'd just get a hint of a melody of a song but it wasn't exactly right... like navigating some dream space where all of the songs and sounds exist at once at the same time

I feel like they played their music as if time and space were warping around them and us... somehow. I don't hear that in the other boots from the recent shows... did they just hone it really well for this SF show? or was the trip just that intense? the more I type the more I realize it was probably just my own perception, probably me getting lost in the transitions between tracks, but I'm still not quite sure. can't wait to hear a recording of it

I'm going through my San Francisco recording from last night, putting together the actual setlist. You can scratch "almost" -- it's certainly Genie's Open (someone else has updated this on setlist.fm).

I think I have everything correct now, except that there's a short (2:20) song that flows out of Bluish that I can't identfy. Could be a fragment of a new song, or a really obscure old one. Some of the lyrics I can make out include "I lost you to the void" and "the challenge." Any ideas on this? Thanks.

Can't remember who sang it. Sounds like Deakin? Kind of a slow, moody song.

Maybe someone can ID it after I upload the audio (soon).

SEEMS like it's Stride Rite then:

"Lost one to sorrow, two to cancer, three by losing patience (?)" kinda fits the lyrics description a bit too

BUuuut-- they played RnD, so I kinda doubt that's it? I'm now actually a lot more lost...

Yeah, it's not Stride Rite (different words and music). People on reddit seem to think it's just a short intro (by Avey, actually) to Strung With Everything. If that's the case, it could be improvised, as I just found another intro to Strung With Everything on YouTube with a similar feel but different lyrics.

ya i bet that issue just arose from how much they jam on transitions lately... i saw them a bunch last month and i feel like very night there was an extended jam on something that sounded like the lead-up to SWE but then didnt even end up being that. Also bet a lot of people dont know/recognizze Working maybe

They also did that little “challenge” bit last night in Portland, it was Avey singing. They actually did several mini-songs as intros and outros, I wonder if they’ll turn into proper songs down the line. The one into Unsolved Mysteries was particularly developed, no way it was just improvised

This sounds great thanks for this michaelz. I've held off on a lot of boots this year but am slowly catching up a bit to get hyped up again for the end of the month.

I noticed they have some time off after Seattle today and am hoping they do a KEXP thing. There's nothing scheduled but even if it's recorded to be broadcast later it would be cool. Anyone know if KEXP records/broadcasts the festival sets?
