Not gonna listen to the whole boot yet cause I don't wanna spoil the energy for the 9:30 club show, but I had to check out Applesauce to hear these different melodies people have mentioned. So fucking good, beautiful interpretation of the song. Will probably cry if they play it on Sunday.

If anyone is interested I edited the cellphone recording with EQ, saturation and reverb and improved the quality the best I think it could be. I can upload it tonight. I’m not going to separate the tracks or anything just because it’s a cell boot.

I’ll upload it tonight.

Yes!!!! :) :D :) i haven't heard many of the new songs yet, although i have been very much wondering about them since the Music Box concerts, but, it has felt like a good idea to be patient!! So, listening to the recording without seeing a setlist, all of the new songs i keep thinking are Defeat because they sound as amazing as i had imagined that to be; until a telltale lyric or the song ending before many sections reveals to me that it's a different one!!

Cherokee i did remember from the 2019 concerts!! it really is different now, but, i think in ways that are a perfect complement to the earlier versions!!

Thanks so much for the recording! Can't wait for Chicago next week. I gotta say, though, that King's Walk has got me torn. I always thought it was missing a little something, which they absolutely gave me with the bass notes and electrical (?) noises. But honestly, my favorite part of the song was the effect on Avey's voice, which is now gone (and I have to assume won't be on the studio version either). And double honestly, now that I can understand the lyrics, I really miss that effect. Am I the only one?

You're not alone, I'm absolutely with you, more vocoder is better in almost every instance the band has introduced it but they seem to have an aversion to keeping it around or leaning too heavily on it. Avey has mentioned wanting to make natural harmonies with the other members of the band which I'm sure is harder when the person with the vocoder stands out and dominates the room

There's a little bit of the vocoder on the Time Skiffs version of Cherokee so I have a bit of hope it'll sneak its way onto Kings Walk in TS2

Very happy that Avey on the vocoder is closing Cherokee again but Passerby with no vocoder outro will always be disappointing compared to how massive the 2019 boots are

i haven't listened to last night's boot cause i want to go in fresh to the show tomorrow, but yeah those lyrics sound really cheesy lol. nice sentiment tho, maybe i'll like it when i hear it who knows. definitely not the 2019 lyrics which sounded like "to be outside is to be right where you should, to be outside is to almost see right through it" which i thought were cool. funny cause when he rewrites his lyrics it usually goes in the opposite direction lol

I couldn't figure out how to use the tag thing to split the recording and I don't really want to listen to the whole show and spoil things for myself because I'll be at the Pittsburgh show but here it is.

An important thing to consider is that iPhones (and probably other phones) have a limiter on recordings made with voice memo so if something gets too loud the volume will be adjusted to keep it below a certain decibel value. Also, even though newer iPhones can record in stereo voice memo is mono only.

That being said I think I made this sound a lot better. It's still very compressed and clipped but I dropped a lot of bad frequencies and increased others. I added a subtle stereo delay to imitate the feel of a stereo space and fed it through a saturation plugin to meld all the changes together.

That new Applesauce :negative: :negative: :negative:

Screens is also immense.

Really loving how Defeat, Broke, Kings and Stride are coming out too. Don't love the changes to Genie's but it's such a fantastic song so I can live with it. Am I right in thinking someone recently said Genie's is an Avey song, not a Panda one? Where did that come from? Very much seems like Panda's doing the lead vox the whole time.

you're right. Avey confirmed it was his when the song first showed up on the 2017 sung tongs tour, someone asked him who it was by.

Defeat…I think I finally know why the middle section isn’t doing it for me. In the music box version it built up and had this massive release, a very cathartic moment when the middle section came in. It felt like a celebration. Then the come down was earned. The new middle section needs them to be singing with more energy and higher highs to match the lows.

Part of me wonders if it's just too difficult to get that energy with the current set up live, I mean they seemed to be working hard as hell throughout that whole song.

i was on my way to the show last night, around 7pm about 20 minutes from the venue, absolute middle of nowhere, my gps stupidly and unnecessarily had me turn onto a back road "shortcut" that hadn't been plowed, by the time i made the turn and processed what had happened it was too late, my 2 wheel drive couldn't reverse out and there was a pile of snow ahead. it was just a couple inches of old frozen snow but that was enough for my car to get stuck. no reception, low phone battery, no charger food or water. had to walk around in the dark and mud with soaked shoes to find someone who would come to their door way out in nowhere land. finally some guy did, this shirtless fully tatted up dude smoking a blunt, said he had lived there 17 years and no one had ever knocked on his door before and said i was lucky i was smart enough to keep yelling hello as i approached the house to make my presence known otherwise he would have drawn his gun on me lol. said good luck trying to get a tow truck out here, you may have to sleep in your car cause there is nothing but woods for 5 miles

to make a much longer story short, guy let me use his house phone to call AAA, who told me they were able to get somebody to come out and they will definitely be here within 1 hour, but they told me that before they actually secured someone to come out and actually no one ever came. eventually i found a spot in the woods where i got a little reception and after calling AAA again it became clear they couldn't get someone to come out, so i switched to calling 911 and eventually a state trooper came out at around 10pm. he tried rocking my car by hand as i tried to reverse out, didn't work. then he says he called a tow truck to come out, should be here in like a half hour, but if they never show up within an hour to call 911 again (even tho i told him my phone was at 1% on airplane mode at this point and may not be able to call again lol). state trooper leaves, i'm sitting in my car hoping to god the tow truck actually will show, and thank god it does at 11. was able to pull me out by 1130, got home at 130. what a fiasco lol

this comes after having to miss the henry miller show in 2019 because i got appendicitis a few days before. perfect setlist last night too, goddamn. pour one out for me boys, two times i've missed seeing defeat live, guess it's not gonna happen :negative: :negative: :negative: :negative: :negative:

unrecorded, s0 sorry to hear about that. local here, what direction where you coming into NA from? some of the roads north towards vermont can be kinda sus.

FWIW, floor mats make for an excellent method to free a stuck car.

here's to hoping we get another new england tour sooner then later.

nailed it, was coming from the north in vermont. got stuck on "old county lane" in heartwellville/readsboro. yeah i really should have tried the floor mat trick, definitely made some wrong moves throughout the night here and there with the adrenaline pumping and not thinking clearly :(

Brooklyn thoughts:
Spoiler: show
Knew I would cry during Defeat and I did lol. First time hearing it live, finally. Really wish I could’ve heard Screens and Magicians but there’s only so many tears to spill anyway I guess. Laughed out loud when the whole room sang along to “a thousand Brooklyners all depressed”

I really loved the new bit of tom flourish in Gem and I, the new lyrics to Stride Right, and all the incredible details they put in No More Runnin’. It sounds absolutely huge live. Same with Defeat of course.

i might consider going to the show if only to hear chores. that has always been one of my favorite songs by them. this new album has to come out already.... I would love sets that picked from their entire discog mixed in brand new tunes (instead of being one or two album heavy sets). I wonder what things would look like if their released things on their on schedule. anywho I'm just grateful that their music exists so it's all good

if I do go to the show I'll go "AH AH AH AH AH" like that one breh

Listening to the Philly boot after seeing them in Brooklyn last night and Chores sounds so different both nights! Hope someone recorded BK because they did a two guitar/drums intro that made me think they were playing an entirely new song for a sec.

Still keeping walker out of the mix too. I'm hoping for some big surprises this week but not expecting much. I think they're doing a good job of mixing up the sets night to night even if it's mostly the same batch of songs they've played the last few tours.

Thought they played it in Richmond? Either way it's been a few shows since. I'd like to see it in NJ.

Walker too. That's my brother's favorite out of the mix and we're both dying to hear it soon.
