really happy that we're getting new avey, but hoping this doesn't push back time skiffs 2, like i hope domino isn't thinking of this as a solo era, with reset and now this, then time skiffs 2 comes late 23 historically I don't think a solo record and an AC record have been released close to each other

Q1 - Avey solo LP
Q2 - Sinister Grift?
Q3 - time to let the dust settle in the AC-verse
Q4 - TS2, the grand reveal

might be my shit speakers but the cricket sounding sample felt much more up front live than it does in this recording. i really hope the beat is prominent in the studio version

yeah i've listened to the bog a couple times and it hasn't clicked for me like it has for others for some reason, so i'm just gonna wait for the studio version since it'll be a lot different anyway, avoid that demoitis

It sounds like more mothlight/2017 shit which I'm glad about since he never really recorded that type of stuff since Cows turned out so different. I loved cows tho tbh shit was awesome.

one interesting thing about the clips from both of those shows is that they sound like two totally different sets with different vibes. 'fruitful year' indeed!

By the time Skiffs 2 comes out, they're going to call it the "lost" record or something and be like "This is what Time Skiffs was supposed to sound like" because it's been so long.

Man I completely forgot about that 2021 show. Yeah that's probably our best clue as to what this new material will sound like. Which is cool, sounds super droney, definitely different from the Cows stuff.

The bog is stupid beautiful. Been more appreciative of individual performances of songs since Mothlight Midnight special, which is one of the best songs of the 2010s AC in my humble. And fuck is the bog good. Stay with me here, but it seems like Avey's music was a bit staggered from Eucalyptus onwards. When eucalyptus was announced, he was playing Cows music. Cows was a gradual evolution of the lo-fi alt-country/popish stuff on Eucalyptus, meanwhile that live sound played all throughout that time never really got studio representation. I wonder if he'll revisit that more sparse live idea of guitar/beat. It seemed like Avey's version of Homies, and how bare bones that album was. I doubt it obv, but it's fun to speculate, so don't get mad at me please. I just love animal collective

For some reason a few of the songs in the second clip remind me of early James Ferraro (Clear, Discovery, Rerex). I hadn't heard these before. Seems a lot more ambient, drone, and more like soundscaping than anything he's released. Like a Terrestrial Tones release that's more melodic with rounded edges and more 'airiness'. Might be a nice change of pace in his discography.

I remember a while ago he said he wanted to make a trilogy: an acoustic album (Eucalyptus), an upbeat electronic album (Cows?), and a drone record.

Glad to hear we might be getting that drone record now!

If I recall correctly he said he envisioned Down There as the beginning of a trilogy and PB talked him out of it.
