really hope that the new material sounds like a mashup of what we've heard from the rehearsal and the swallow at the hollow mix

You're definitely right. I guess I just would like to see where they would go if they abandoned discernible lyrics throughout a good portion of the album or at least approach lyrics from a minimalist prespective. Not saying I would prefer vocals to be absent, but I would be interested in seeing less verse-verse,-chorus songs and more stuff like Panic, Infant Dressing Table, My Favorite Colors or simplified lyric songs like College, Avey's Fly song, Panda's Don't Know Why song, or Glass Bottom Boat.

Also I'm curious to see if Avey will sing less considering the problems he's had with his voice on tour over the past couple years

Longform rather than formless for me, please. I would not object to housey beats and something like that Don't Know Why track or the other minimal banger with the Mr. Noah-sounding gnarled bassline, from Swallow. I've been buzzing off them really hard the last week.

They also announced on their fb that they'll be playing at a music festival in Phoenix in March. It doesn't say DJ set. What are the chances it will be new material?

But going back to the comment about an all instrumental album. ..I would be pretty upset about that. As someone else has stated, Avey and Panda's vocals are way to beautiful to not be on an album! Not even just that, but their song writing lyrical (especially Aveys) is absolutely amazing, even when it was more straightforward writing! I would love more songs like "Baby Day" where they are just using their vocals as an instrument! A couple instrumentals wouldn't be bad at all tho, but not as a full album.
