I'm always saying that AC needs more cartoon music videos, and this definitely delivers on the potential I had in mind there. Great work!

Does anybody have insight into why they aren't playing BTQ tracks live? We got Piggy Knows, what, once? Is that the only one?
Rain In Cups and BTQ are top-tier tracks, and I'd love to hear how they play around with them live. But is there something about how the tracks are set up musically or instrumentally that makes them not practical right now?

didn’t they do a remote Zoom performance of rain in cups? we got a glimpse of the arrangement for that one too at least

it is honestly strange we at least never got the title track. I like that track just pretty good but live it woulda slapped my face off probably.
And Rain woulda been a nice lower tempo groove. Maybe they'll show up in europe. I kin da forget about this ep sometimes >,>;;

bridge to quiet (title track) would have made a killer painting with era live version. hope we can see it as a live addition next cycle post-ts2 when they have room for another 10-minute track over magicians and defeat.

Do people still like this? Interested how people feel about it as almost technically newer songs than TS or IIN but also the least savvily produced of the three (a *warm up* to Skiff’s mastery over the remote recording process and IIN surely taking away lessons from both projects back into the studio). I love this thing still (Rain In Cups and Bridge to Quiet are both amazing and perfect bookends for a project this length) but I wonder if the sound of the mix versus the newer projects now turns people off. Songwriting is obviously less dialed in, there was so much time to percolate everything that came after, but I like the looseness that gives this thing? I also imagine BTQ fitting quite nicely into the next album/tour cycle if they are indeed making more stuff in the vein of Neurons.

Love to hear that somebody feels that way (even if I don’t), I think there’s so much life in it.

It was a very exciting release as it jsut came out of nowhere. Love when they do songs like Sux-bier and wish they'd do em more

I personally love Bridge to Quiet. The fact that Piggy Knows is all remote is pretty remarkable. When 7s came out I noticed a few tracks have a similar vibe to Bridge to Quiet and come to find out that the songs were written around the same time. Neurons and Bridge to Quiet sound very similar.

I also see the similarity with 7s. Really BtQ feels to me like an Avey solo EP that the boys helped out with.
An awesome EP either way.

For me BTQ is a bit of a miss. The songs are cool but I feel they don't quute have enough in them to sustain their long run times. Would have been cool if they leaned more into a collagey like TTG style and the song part is just 3-4 minutes within each ~10 min piece. I know that's kind of what it is but idk, i wish they pushed it a little further I guess

Can definitely see that viewpoint. That said, I think the extended grooves on tracks like Piggy and BtQ are kinda cool. I like how they just settle into a beat and just cruise along on it with added melodies and textures etc.

Totally understand that criticism roopn— this is probably the closest they’ve ever been to a jam band (except for maybe a little for the PW tour), definitely more than for any reason people called them a jam band during the Skiffs tour.

I honestly have never been a fan of piggy knows. It’s not that bad of a song musically but a song about Donald trump and covid is the last thing I would expect anco to ever do. Some of the lyrics on that song make me cringe so hard

Absolutely. It’s a fun jam but those lyrics are really annoying to the point of me not really wanting to return to it despite liking it otherwise.

where is the cringe / annoyance borne from those lyrics? is it just the reference to current events in general?

I think the actual melody to Piggy is so annoying. Really reminds me of 7s first few tracks. Like a very repetitive jingle. Chirpy Dave is not my thing really.

i never really got into rain in cups, something about the "and the rain..." part is super grating lolol

also agree that the actual melody to piggy is really annoying at times lolol. i think the verse, childlike part, and "piggy! ooooouuuu" part but when they starting going "piggy piggy piggy piggy" its a bridge too far

Bridge to Quiet is unbelievably mid. Sux Bier Passage is the only decent song

Overall I agree that this is probably my least favorite release by them. Feels like they were really trying to figure something out, which I guess they did, but I echo the idea that its jammy and not in a way that goes anywhere. Rain in Cups might be one of my least fave AC songs, it makes my bones feel weird. Idk I haven't actually listened to it in forever lol. I like the intro to Piggy Knows and the verse, wish the lyrics weren't so on the nose, and if it was like 4 minutes I think it could a been really cool. Sux Bier Passage is cool definitely has the most replayability and is the most "AC" of em. I really like this song. And I like the final track a lot too I just wish it was like 6 minutes instead. That's my favorite AC music video also, I agree most of their music videos are ehhhh I wish they were more dynamic... ODDSAC is definitely the best representation of their video stuff barr none. Oh wait this isn't the contrarian thread eeeee
But yeah I could take half of this EP I'd say. Besides The Inspection it really is my least favorite thing they've done. Which is funny because I am straining to think of anything else they did that I dislike. Oh wait I never listened to Crestone. nd at least Inspection has Crucible which I think is really really pretty

Crestone is actually quite good in terms of interesting, intriguing sounds, kind of like their Golden Age stuff minus the songs.

Just listened to Piggy today and I realized that I don't like it as much as I thought I did. Agree that there is something very juvenile about it. Think I remembered it more fondly because I liked the rest of the EP a lot and didn't want to dislike a full quarter of it.
wilandhugs did you ever listen to the "live at home" version of Rain In Cups? I love the song anyway but I see what you're saying about your bones grinding and I think this version is both better than the trip hop studio version and is softer edged in a non-making-bones-feel-weird kind of way.

Gotta agree about Piggy being kinda juvenile. But not in a charming way like PW. To me it sticks out like a sore thumb, I just don't care for the melody or the lyrics (the intro is pretty hype though). The rest of the EP is fantastic. It always brings me back to those first months of the pandemic. It feels eerie and desolate. It's great overall
Sux Bier really reminds me of a Psychoactivws track, maybe something off Summer Blaze

I didn't actually. I have the link there in my notes but not got round to it yet. I kind of feel like I never will, I have to be honest. Is it worth it?
