tbh, I don't really get the version of Kings I heard. in the recording I had, panda sounded too loud and a little obnoxious lol. but def could be sweet.

i felt that panda was drowning out avey and deak in kings as well until i heard the version that that guy put on soundcloud that combined the two tulsa boots into one recording, the harmonies sounded somewhat more balanced in that versiona and i started to dig kings a lot more. (it's on page 19 of the all known live recordings thread)

^re-hearing that track is actually dope af. sounds sick

these new avey songs are utterly destroying me. love them soooooooo much.

weird to think we havent fully had a new full band bootleg era since chz in terms of live debuts since PW mixed up their formula. these new songs are like the best part of that first petaluma chz boot cranked way the fuck up. im getting like abbey road/george harrison/ pavement/ classic rock energy that feels really epic.. but also futuristic with like some of oneohtrix's new album and a weird lounge-prog thing

passerby, cherokee, new prester and bolder all seem like instant classics. the climax of cherokee is one of the most beautiful live moments ive heard from them. those crashing chimey vibe sounds are hype and beautiful af... might be my stand out now

and the call and response in new Defeat at the end reminds me of Grace. like its almost theatrical or like operatic lol. theyre like firing on all cylinders, this is like chz but with a long over-due kit change-back for panda, some new vocal filters and a lot of harmonies figuring in...and more avey guitar than avey keyboard i guess? idk yet for sure...

I think Avey plays bass guitar on all these new songs, the only time he jumps on the keyboard seems to be for Pulleys

if this next album has all of what seems like is gonna be on it from these shows then that is so easily their best album since SJ or like Feels depending on yr preference. every track kicks ass

wait which ones even are panda? Gem and I totally fits, but like I didn't thin panda's fit during chz so maybe I feel you.

Avey has like 5-7 if you include the Nola returning songs, and Deakin has...2? and panda 2?

avey 6 - cherokee, defeat, passerby, bolder, prester john, dragon slayer
panda 4 - [out there], strangers, gem and i, 24
deakin 2 - stride right, downdowndown
all? 1 - kings

word thanks, I dont even KNOW most of panda or dean's songs, Avey's alone are already such a meal

this album is gonna be like if feels and chz had a baby + jazz and autotune and thats soooooo good. feel like they're building on the vibe of chz songs like Gotham in that its their twisted version of classic rock sometimes, esp Dragon Slayer and Prester John. also the jammiest stuff since those albums instrument wise id say

I hope it's not that, it's like a Coldplay lyric or something, but that's how it sounds to me.

I think he switches back and forth:
If you can do love, you hear me? If you can do love, you heal me.

I haven't listened to all the boots yet, but thus far, it's clearest in the Tulsa boot.

What are some of the funny lyrics y'all hearing in the new songs?

Gem and I, "Crack open another beer, lets get in it." "This is a gun, this is a gun, this is a gun"

Cherokee "With a pocket full of roofies, a pocket full of teeth."

Bolder "I can be the one to do the pleasing" "In between the sheets I'll make you smile, you and me together I'll make this feel." I mean, is this another Avey sex song? Sure sounds like it!

Yeah Bolder is a sex jam for sure. Also worth quoting the rest of that part from Gem and I:
"Crack open another beer, let's get in it
Another tip to the golden years, we're probably in it"
Panda sounds like an aging wisecracking detective from some crime drama lol

Damn I was wondering what those Gem and I lyrics were. Hilarious these will likely co-exist on a record with Defeat, Prestor, Down Down etc. Only this band

For real, I love everything I can make out of the new Prester lyrics.
"Treating everyday as an image of the moment that's passed" is such a good line.

Idk I like 'If you come in the lobby, you'll hear me' cuz it has unclear context and like in that case is just telling a specific part of a story where like someone is wanting to meet someone in the lobby of a hotel cuz they're holiday-ing around xmas time cuz the song kinda sounds like xmas when yr a kid

Not a funny line but "now I'm all out, but how 'bout you?" from Defeat is fucking killing me. As is "just a frightened mother looking for her daughter."

for sure, esp with the context of the line before being "we were the good news" like avey is all out of good news :'(

This record is gonna revolve a lot around indigenous peoples of the world I think. Seems like some historical figures are mentioned here and there in lyrics as well, Prester John being one of them. Lots of "nomad" and wanderer vibes. Unexplored territory is a theme. Lots of talk about the Sun.

This is their Social Studies album. This will be on the quiz.

Omg Kings totally makes sense as a Baby Day-type b side. Gotta wonder if any of these songs would be a non-album A-side single. My bet would be on Strangers; with Kings as the b-side it would feel like a quintessential AC standalone single. Tho selfishly I'd want them to do Bolder/Appreciate just so they don't end up on the record.

Also here's a premature best-to-worst because why not

1. Defeat
2. Cherokee
3. Prester John
4. DownDownDownDown
5. Strangers
6. 24
7. Passerby
8. Dragon Slayer
9. Stride Right
10. Gem and I
11. Kings
12. Bolder
13. Appreciate

Defeat is in a league of its own, 2-6 are all great (and could probably be in any order), 7-10 are pretty good, and 11-13 are decent.
