Ah, thanks. Do you know what "[Out There]" from the Santa Fe boot translates to on the other boots?

Structure - keep in mind here.. I'd go as far as to say based off of them coming down to their bare bones on this masterpiece body of work they've created for this tour and the level of their musicianship at this point that Dragon Slayer is the most accessible song next to From a Beach/Maya..
I think mainly the way it's structured and rhythm and lyrical harmonies.. the whole thing.. It's just natural. They really just let go it feels for that track and it's flawlessly Animal Collective. I'd show people it when they wanna hear what AC sounds like.. that's good shit

Haven't heard:

Dragon Slayer
Passerby
Stride Right
Once Again

Heard only once:

Strangers
Prestor
Appreciate

Hope to keep it that way

This can't be the only tour they do of these jams before they record them, right?

Need to see them played! Ah!

I wonder if defeat will end up as a stand alone track. A 12inch single with some b-sides.

I couldn’t agree more! They tossed safer on a wasted ep like if it wasn’t a masterpiece. I do wonder sometimes if they regretted that decision?

Geo was the most adamant about it being on the album. All of SJ was a regret for Avey apparently lmao

Some interview somewhere pretty sure. The dudes decided not to end SJ on a dark note but a positive one with Derek.

I'm kinda shocked they did away with the music box material so quickly glad to see some left in this new era though the songs felt so perfect at the music box shows it's hard to let go of my demoitis. But it sounds like the pro footage is finally getting released via premiere in NOLA soon so hopefully (most likely) it'll be officially released. I honestly thought that was the best stuff they've ever done loved the additional musicians on sax and cello.

I can only imagine where the dudes are taking this material in the studio.to me it def has similar soundscapes to mpp/tangerine reef but this weird almost jamband looseness and futuristic vibe. the auto tune is hard for me to get use to. I hope instead it's multi layered two part/three part harmony stuff on the album. Though avey seems to be really experimenting with it and how he's processing it and layering it with other fx -to me it's just a lame effect and so cold and inhuman sounding. There voices are fucking good they don't need it lol.

Tho all in all I love this stuff -just on Pandas drumming alone so i can't wait to hear the finished product.

Geo thing was from an audio interview, that’ll take more time to dig up if it’s even still out there. I remember avey doing a funny gravelly-voiced impression of Geo: “Safer’s going on the record!”

[Strawberry Jam] was a struggle to get through. Josh especially was having a really hard time. That recording process was the first time we ran into a situation where we weren’t completely satisfied with what was happening. It’s strange for us because that record is looked at very fondly, and it’s a favourite for a lot of people. There are some songs that I’m proud of, but as a collection and as a lingering experience, Strawberry Jam is my least favorite Animal Collective record.

Thanks!

The Geo/Safer bit I remember hearing from back when the album came out. That was the one where he alluded to another song being the one he REALLY wanted to close it out on, which I think ended up being Cobwebs? But the name wasn't mentioned at the time.

I can't believe Strawberry Jam is Avey's least favorite record. That's... crazy.

that is reeeeeally weird considering how I think of SJ as like one of the "truest" AC LPs AND a quintessential avey record. and like its immaculate in a way even feels and mpp could come short of.... huh weird. wonder if Deakin was just being a naughty boy during that time, or like was tracklist that big of an issue??? that one does have some of the best b-sides...

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Here's my recording of the Point Reyes show from October. It's a phone recording but I did a lot of tweaking to it and I got it sounding pretty tasty. Enjoy and happy holidays!

'Twas the 420 before Christmas, when all through the net
Not a user was stirring, not even to vent;
The animals were collected around the world with care,
In hopes that LP 11 soon would be there;
The Painters were nestled all snug in their beds;
While sounds of Tongs sang in their heads;
And Avey in his beanie, and Panda with his drum,
Had just melted our brains and made our Fall hum,
When out of the blue there arose such a sound,
I sprang to the forum to see what was found.
On to the download, oh what a seeker,
Threw on my cans or turned up my speaker.
The sparkle and sheen of the fresh new tune,
Gave me new life and made my soul swoon.

Happy Holidays everyone! Here's my recording of the boys at the Henry Miller Library in Big Sur. I think the quality is absolutely gangbusters and a great document of the mini-tour. Also included openers Dustin Wong and Takako Minekawa's set too. Enjoy!

Thanks so much for this. Great recording, awesome performances. Maybe the best new "Defeat" I've heard thus far

EDIT: Wait, bah, I meant the Big Sur recording, not this one. I'm sure this one is still good too though
