Once AC makes a verifiable reference to leaving the band I’ll be very scared

I feel like the good crew might not even refer to AC tho. It's like the royal good crew

flights has had this slow growth on me, to where its now my third favorite just behind Sunset and then Nod, which are in a league of their own for me personally, but goddamn that bass on flights, and the weird zydeco-esque vibe/melodies that culminate in weird barbershop quartet shit is beautiful

and i mean it does kinda sound like hes singing about the PW tour sometimes lol (but like no really.... right?) but all i really wanna know is who the FUCK is the uncle? him? avey??? matt?

Yes BUT consider this interpretation of the first verse:

We got the good crew (AC is fam)

Been running with the good crew (AC has been central to my life for a long time)

But we're not selling (reference to negative critical response to CHZ & PW and possible impact on band relationship)

Been out for a minute (taking a break from AC)

Gonna stay out for a minute (for the foreseeable future)

Can someone please explain what it is about Nod to the Folks that is so transcendent? I like the song but compared to the other four tracks on homies it just seems like the least interesting one to me. Not trying to hate, just doesn't stand out as much to me

I like the way Nod has the verses broken up into short melodic phrases that are separated by longer instrumental bits, when the chorus hits and it's all one long melody it feels very effective because of the way the verses build up to it. I also just love the melodies in general, I think they're simple but v powerful

I also like the way the siren samples are used as a melodic element (providing the chords) but then when they slide down in pitch, it's like it transforms into a non-melodic noise element, just a weird sound effect

Last but not least the beat slaps obviously

Great description of the sirens and their harmonic function. I love when they start to slide, as I generally love it when they do that with their voices for 'mad effect'.

Also love how when they get down low enough, they start warbling like a howling dog

i think the siren sample is stunning. it's so musical and he employs it so effectively, dropping the drums out and letting them just sing

Not sure if anyone has suggested this interpretation already, but I have always thought Nod to the Folks is about the band's fans. When they perform on stage they are physically nodding (to the folks) keeping them (the band) close, through their support of the music, the band, etc. Also the title itself can be read as an homage (a nod) to the fans (folks). I think the fact that he was writing this on the painting with tour supports this...Could be wrong...Anyways..great song.

I'm not sure if I read this somewhere but I hear Nod as being about bacteria or primordial life, as the 'folks' (predecessors) of us all.... it seems like a musing on the origins of life, a gamble of chance, gods, superstition and embryonic slime.... A nod to our ancestors, parents and microbial origins

Evolution isn't a joke it's just time

when the chorus hits after the drums drop out its so trippy feeling in this weird subtle way, feel likes he sings those melodies in an almost slowed down dreamy way. it has this weird reserved energy to it and it triggers weird visual associations, i like the lyrics talk to the gods, evens and odds. and its an awesome set up to Sunset which basically makes me cry 3 times

Absolutely!
Like so many PB and AC songs, I have developed my own idea of the meaning of Flight (for me, not leaving the band related) but then that line shows up and I'm all: damn that uncle... who is he and what has he done.
Same thing for me with "And they keep on rubbing, how a proper chest is cleaned".
Perhaps the uncle has a dirty chest. So specific. Yet so darn vague.

That Panda refers to his friends (AC or not) as "the good grew" never fails to make me smile. It's just the cutest thing.

I just got my copy on vinyl and it sounds great! The bass slaps on all of it, with Flight and Sunset really standing out for me.

Anyone know what the picture on the back of the record sleeve is? It looks like someone's hand reaching up onto a desk but I can't see the rest? Is it Noah?

If Flight is about AC then the "falling asleep at the wheel" verse is one hell of a condemnation of Avey. I don't exactly see him as "pissing alone" either when all his recent work has been with Deak or Geo at least. But who else would be "at the wheel" of AC after all

Overall I don't completely accept the AC interpretation of flight but PB 100% must have known that it would be interpreted that way.

Back into Homeboys in a large way. I love his vocals on it, they're really quite different to anything he's done recently or perhaps ever. Much more relaxed. Gorgeous.

It's tricky to see but I think it might be his wife reaching into an oven, bracing her hand on the bench above as she leans down. You can see her purple hair

Chris Freeman - Front of House sound ,Shock & Awe , vegetable .

I didn't add the emphasis on mineral/vegetable/animal either, I guess that bit from Part of the Math has been around in some form for years now.

I just now realized the cover art for Homies is.. A shot of an empty park bench under lamp posts.
Anyone else not notice?
This whole time I thought it was black text on white, and then photographed with a flash, or something.
